I think you still need Barrels for Brewing.

DF Gameplay Questions / XYZ has been incased in ice...
« on: May 10, 2011, 09:12:01 am »
I tried to embark in a very cold location, with a frozen ocean, two frozen rivers, a Part of a glaicier and an aquifier. There are no problems so far. I digged out a little fortress, established Faming Plots (thank god there is mud on z-1) workshops etc. I got everything except stone, wich was below the aquifier.

So I thougt it would be smart to chanel throug the aquifier from surface to get walls of ice as water barrier. Everything went fine until my miner chaneled the 20th or 30th tile in the aquifier level and got incased. Ok, I thought, next try and now with lots of cloth! But nope, now he got incased after his third tile... As I read in this forum some of you embark and live in glaciers, so my question is how do you protect your miners or other dwarfes from being incased in ice?

Yeah, but even if I activate "Announce some job cancelations", they still tell me "XYZ Cancels Store Item in Stockpile: Job Item misplaced". I cant activate "Announce no job cancellations" because I need to know if my workshops cancel forsome reason (no food for example)

My announcement gets flooded by the "XYZ Cancels Store Item in Stockpile: Job Item misplaced" message.

Question: How the hell do I turn it off?

If I zoom to the location I zoom to the dwarf not the item so I have no idea wich item is causing the problem or how I am able to stop the messageflooding. Is there any way to turn the whole message off?

Same for the whole Badger Messages, I dont wanna know when they arent enraged anyomre.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Are the humans going to siege me?
« on: May 03, 2011, 03:19:59 am »
After 17 years you should have a decent army to rape every siege by humans.

The worst enemys are elves, because they walk over traps, humans are not stronger than usual goblins.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Possible to hold back Fun? (Spoiler)

They never destroy lowered bridges.

It would be kinda stupid to destroy the bridge you need to get into the fortress you wanna raid, wouldnt it?

Maybe he healed himself?

I got 2 dwarfes with each one cut of leg running happily around without an medical dwarf.

EDIT: And one with both hands cut of. he never visitet a hospital (cause i got none) but all I get is the usuall "XYZ cancel storing owned Item" Message (for almost 4 years, I suppose)

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Safely mining adamantine
« on: April 29, 2011, 03:33:17 am »
Dont even touch the potential 4x4 "Fun Adamantium". You may survive with walls etc but you wont survive the lag caused by the demons.

Or is it possible to kill all Demons?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: kinda bored, what do?

How about draining two oceans to breed only one couple of sea monsters?

Or do it like Yahtzee and create a giant cock out of gold or even better adamantium.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Migrant Issues
« on: April 21, 2011, 01:32:39 pm »
No, usually you get normal migrant waves until your population is over your population cap.

DF gets realy big during 2 ingame years. (I got a 2,5 GB savegame after 1,5 years on a 10x10 embark site ^^")
dammit, you computer can handle that:o :o *envy*

Actually, yeah.

The first two years are playable. But once you hit a cave you may also quit.

14
Or simply use a restraint for justice, so your Craftsdwarf wont be killed.

15
No, no max History, I get realy unlucky with that option. Three times there where no other dwarfes on the continent because they got killed somewhere in time, so no migrants >.<"

Btw, I was talking about advanced world creation, creating 30 z-level Waterfalls etc (wich I never get T.T)

Bringing 7 miners isn't going to help (well i bring 2, and 3 might speed things up a little). There's only 8 mined squares per tube in my design ,on z=0 and z-1, plus the water intake tube on z+1. A skilled mechanic would help link the whole thing quicker.

Hmm, most the time I have to dig a bit until my river, but no i dont create 10x10 Maps everytime, this was just some sort of experiment to get 6 biomes in one Map.

I gen large batches of worlds to find good sites, tweaking worldgen settings between gen's as I go and only delete them when I get annoyed with so many folders. And my laptop only has 40GB HD total. The DF folder is sitting on my desktop, and the C: drive is only 5 GB !

I've never had a crash for that reason. You REALLY can't have two worlds at once??

It crashes once I want to create another region, no idea, why. Maybe the OS, maybe the hardware, some bug or the martians. It just happens, thats all I know. Because of the limited space i didnt save old regions in seperatet files and just deleted them, wich was kinda stupid i have to admit.

Metal industry if anything is a luxury in the first year.

You sure about that? Others tell you to get metal asap for your military O.o

@ Greycat: Per Save that my be correct, but if you activate the seasonal saving option in "Lazy newb pack" your savegame gets kinda huge. A save folder containing a 4x4 savegame of ~2,5 years is 818 MB (857 on disk) and contains 15.080 files.

These files are in folders called:
"region1_aut_252"
"region1_aut_253"
"region1_aut_255" (no aut_254 O.o)
"region1_spr_252"
"region1_spr_253"
"region1_spr_255"
"region1_sum_252"
"region1_sum_253"
"region1_win_252"
"region1_win_253"

@ Kardwill: its just the numbers of single savegames, most the time my embark sites are 4x4 up to 6x6, the 10x10 was some sort of experiment.
