SDL2 update is mostly done, I didn't do terribly much in the way of optimization besides the inherent optimization you get from moving to the GPU; however, you can just turn off the rescale function, so at least that's going on.

There's already a texture cache for rescaled stuff, it's just invalidated rather often. A bit less often with SDL2, though.

Kinda wish there was a Linux version of premium to be fair.. Running it in proton is buggy, workable but buggy and very slow for some reason then on native windows.

working on it, main issue right now is concurrency woes (the game does use multithreading, to an extent, and even the very minor extent it does use it is causing issues lol)

Glad to hear this is a Linux issue (and disheartened but good to hear it's on the radar to be addressed). I've had to abandon forts so early because of severe FPS drops with sub-100 populations even. My Windows version is running fine so far.

Probably the quickest comic I've done in years.  I'm not proud of it.

Good to know.  I'll probably build a few others anyway, because Dwarf Fortress.  But that makes things much easier.  Thanks.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Question about temples
« on: May 13, 2016, 08:34:23 pm »
So by now I've approved the immigration of way too many interlopers, and they've brought with them all their different religions.  And there are TONS of religions in my fortress now.  We're like New York City without the atheists.

But now that I'm setting up a temple infrastructure to service the religiously inclined, I'm trying to figure out how to make these people happy without having to build three dozen temples.  Is the generic, catchall temple good enough to service these needs?  Should I try to pick the top five or so observed religions, give them all temples, then hope the Episcopalians don't start complaining about lacking a place of worship?  How much happiness do the niche religion-observers receive from attended the Unitarian church anyway?

Hey that's really cool.  I'll have to check it out, thanks!

I think consumption is substantially higher than previous.  I compensated by increasing fruit gathering, and now my booze reserves are properly back in the thousands.

Yeah so what's the point of libraries again?  Do they have any practical benefits?

Built walls can be carved into fortifications?  Completely news to me.  I'll have to check that out.

As far as climbing smoothed stone, I'm not familiar with the instance you're citing, but I suspect something made the undead dodge in such a fashion that it leapt a z-level or two.  I've seen that happen even prior to the climbable-walls release.

Also your problem wasn't enemies pathing through but pathing over your fortifications.  Last update added the ability for creatures to climb.  Try building a very tall tower or adding deep moats.  IIRC enemies can climb built walls but not smoothed natural stone.

Hey Cap'n Duck - your first videos helped me get into Dwarf Fortress way back when.  Thanks for your efforts!

If you make libraries available to fortress mode, could they be used to improve dwarf skills like diagnostics and architecture?
Would reading books give some dwarfs a happy thought?
Do different forms of art, music, poetry, and literature have the typical ranges of quality (masterwork, etc.) associated with them?

Is there a locked door preventing access to either the dwarf, the well, or the haulers?  Has something scary from the caves gotten into your main staircase?  Are burrows active?

How much steel could you guys possibly need...

Nevermind.  It's Dwarf Fortress.  You'll find a reason.
