I went to and Elven Retreat that was conquered by humans and in their control.

There are elves manning the human style shops.  They are selling leather and bone items.  When I mark an item [T], the offer commands (a,b,c, etc) do nothing.  I can't sell them anything, either.

DF Bug Reports / [39b] Small Grammar Fix
« on: July 16, 2008, 09:04:42 pm »
After speaking with a High Priestess, her parting words were:

"At this juncture in your life, even a child would give yourself to hospitality."

That's wrong on many levels.

DF Bug Reports / [39b] Human Leader/High Priest Succession
« on: July 16, 2008, 09:01:34 pm »
Not even playing, just pouring over genealogies and site histories.  Came across two instances of wierdness.

Puc was appointed the leader of a conquered forest retreat in 120.  Unfortunately, he was burned up a year later by a visiting dragon.  The group eventually built a meadhall in 132.  However, no new leader was appointed/came to power until 183.  Perhaps this was Puc's original death date and the dragon messed that up?

That's the relatively easy one.

Next is Nod, who became a High Priestess in 110 for a church in another town (founded by the same group that conquered the forest retreat).  In 120, the group conqured another forest retreat and named Nod as its leader.  Nod "stopped ruling" at the church by their record, but never gave up the High Priestess status (she's still alive in 200 and her personal record still shows her as High Priestess).

In adventure mode, I went to the church and asked the members for some info - they refer to Nod as the leader of the religion - but I have to find her 'wherever she might be.'  They also let me know Nod was the leader of the group that rules the forest retreat.  It would take some real sleuthing to figure out where this High Priestess was going purely by adventure mode chat.

Since I did know where it was, though, I went there.  Her icon and title were that of High Priestess.  She was both able to admit me into the religion and to give me a task as the leader of her new group.

Wordy, I know.  I don't think there's a bug with a high priest also ruling a town, its pretty cool, the bug is that there's not enough verbage in adventure mode to actually be able to find her new location if I wanted to join that religion.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / The Sad Dragon
« on: July 15, 2008, 03:51:35 pm »
Yes, he was sad.  Because his name was Sad.

He died in the year 1.  Which is sad.

To a kobold.  SAD!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Metal Bar Wealth Creation
« on: July 13, 2008, 10:17:32 pm »
I'm not discussing this in the bug forum just yet, as it may be related to Req418.

The following metal bar transmutations do not create added wealth (ignore ore value and use of charcoal - assume magma furnace; number in parenthesis is qty received from recipe; ignore bar weight; didn't review steel bars):

BARCOST  BASE VALUE  EXT VALUE
billon (2)603060
sterling silver (4)16040160
black bronze (4)22055220
electrum (2)200100200
rose gold (4)460115460

These transmutations do add wealth:

BARCOST  BASE VALUE  EXT VALUE
lay pewter (4)401560
nickel silver (4)401560
trifle pewter (3)30 2060
bronze (2)202550
fine pewter (4)4025100
bismuth bronze (4)4030120
brass (2)203570

All currently produce the same number of bars as is consumed.
Which should it be, added wealth or no?  Other factors involved?  Discuss.  (Including checking the math).

DF Bug Reports / [38c] Advisor always titled 'King's Advisor'
« on: July 13, 2008, 01:13:59 am »
No matter what title you give to the Advisor, the game always refers to it as 'King's Advisor,' even if the ruler is a Queen.

I titled mine neutrally 'Advisor' and even 'Royal Advisor,' but all messages state 'King's Advisor.'

I had a dwarven caravan spawn right after the gobbos (siege, not ambush) attacked.

They were pretty much destroyed right as they came on screen - I even think some were destroyed before the wagon even spawned.

I noticed on my stocks screen there was some red booze (number to right of stock number).  When I zoom to the booze, it takes me to the site of the wagon destruction - but there is no barrel, no nothing.  I have several items in my stock list that I can't get to/clean up because they somehow don't exist in the world.

I know I'm still using 38b, but there wasn't much in the dev notes to indicate any type of fix in 38c that would be affecting this.

Related to bug #833.

I just had a tame elk die of old age.  He was marked as available on the animal screen, but was never adopted.  He was buried in a coffin made available to pets.  Shouldn't these coffins only accept actual pets?  I guess the availability tags actually marks them as pets, even if they aren't adopted.  Working as intended?

And I know this has been reported before, but my tame dragon died of heat while being locked in a room with burning gobbos.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Artistic Challenge
« on: July 04, 2008, 12:25:39 pm »
This is for all of you that like to sketch or draw/paint/water/blood/vomit.

I have a pantheon that I'd rather like to see.  I'm fairly creative myself, but I love seeing what other people come up with.

So, I want to see your renditions of my pantheon.  I'm thinking of the old D&D sketches where they'd show you a group of NPCs all in one pic, except this would be more like a Rogues Gallery shot of gods.

I may turn it into a sort of contest.  Perhaps donate some $ in your name. Something.

I like detail, but I like character more.  I want to see what these gods represent by what you give them for clothes, noses, etc.  Character.  To get an understanding of this, watch The Name of the Rose - notice how each of the main monks have their own character typified in their features.  That's what I'm looking for.

How long would you need?  A week? A month?  Sign up here and let me know.

You can post your pics, but judging is completely at my whim.

Here is the Dramatis Personę (no particular order):

Kerlīg, female dwarf - rulership, fortresses
Rśbal Uvelbekom "Bearspring", male dwarf - rain, fertility, agriculture, food
ūd, male dwarf - oaths, loyalty, song, poetry, persuasion, speach
Momuz Nökorrakust "the Dead Tomb", female dwarf - suicide (This explains alot with DF)
Vumom Ottanthīkut "the Mindful Books", female dwarf - wisdom, scholarship, writing
Luslem Adrungak "Sunskunk", male dwarf - moon, night, stars, plants
Gulgun, female dwarf - dusk, twilight, deformity
Ruzos, female dwarf - freedom
Thol, male dwarf - volcanos, earth, caverns, mountains
Tath Tholnekut Tithleth "the Deep Secret of Rumors", female dwarf - dreams
Osram, female dwarf - jewels, wealth

Run with it.  You can even team up with a writer to give histories, relations, etc.

Looking forward to the results.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Finally, a real dwarf
« on: November 10, 2007, 09:07:00 pm »
I just don't see how dwarves force themselves to sleep on those prissy elvenesque beds made of wood...

Apparently, my founding miner agreed and came to his 'senses', and presented this:

Emalorrun, "Sensesroared", a Diorite bed.

This is a Diorite bed.  All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality.  It is encrusted with Diorite and encircled with bands of Diorite.

I wonder if he meets his demise if the bed will then be able to be placed and used...

DF Gameplay Questions / Pets
« on: July 02, 2007, 01:08:00 pm »
Do dwarf pets have to roam in order to give the dwarf the thought "comforted by a pet" or can the pet be locked in a cage in the zoo?  (I can't stand to see a dwarf going to his bedroom with 2 mules in tow...)

I tend to lock up all animals and only let a few out to be adopted - do they even need to be let out to be adopted, or just tagged as available?

Thanks.

DF Gameplay Questions / Item Ownership
« on: November 05, 2007, 02:27:00 pm »
If I reassign a dwarf from one room to another and remove his ownership of the previous room, will he run back and get his stuff from the old room, or does it now belong to whoever claims the free room?

I swear one of my miners had it out for the other...he purposly undermines him while digging a chute...I'm almost positive, as the ill-fated miner was falling, the other one yelled "Can I have ur stuff?"

DF Gameplay Questions / Jail w/ Cages?
« on: November 04, 2007, 05:07:00 pm »
I have a room full of cages and I used one to designate the room.  However, the justice option remains grayed out.  Can cages not be used as a jail?  I'm using wooden cages - is that the problem?  I've always used chains/rope before, so I'm not sure if there's a problem with this or not.

DF Gameplay Questions / Outdo Indo
« on: November 03, 2007, 05:44:00 pm »
If I dig out the roof at ground level so that the entire room below is exposed to sunlight,

1) does that room now count as outdoor for purposes of growing crops (assume it received a dowsing to get mud)? and

2) will the sunlight then evaporate the water that flooded the room, or will I still need to pump it out?

Thanks.

DF Gameplay Questions / LoS w/ zAxis
« on: October 31, 2007, 01:46:00 pm »
No, that's not 133t-speak, just wondering if a dwarf has line of sight through the levels of zAxis?

Case in point, if I have a ramp going down three levels, but on the second level down build a room with fortifications overlooking the ramp, will marksdwarves only cover the ramp on that level or will they fire on the full length of the ramp?

(I'll have to learn the symbols so I can code a pic for you...)
