Does it say he can't grasp on the health screen?

Yeah, they're attached to the earlobe. I've never seen one inside someone's ear before.

For the sake of curiosity, can someone tell me how you'd get cursed and become a vamp?

Drink some vampire blood.

Explain beards. ;D

4-dimensional, yet able to assume a wide range of forms by moving in and out of 3D space, hence their ability to smooth and engrave stone, slaughter animals, and filter booze.

And can you explain why a 10x10bridge occupies 10 tiles when raised and not the logical 100? Is it foldable? 4D with some 3d characteristics? :P

Actually, this one's already been solved:
Oops, sry. :P

Ok when I dropped my nobles house in a volcano the statues were left hanging midair and since you cant walk through them they should be regular 3D objects?

That's just a glitch.

Obviously :P

What would the semi-molten rock be?

SMR is interesting, as it a 3D substance that exhibits properties of both waves and particles. When the SMR is particle-like, it can be interacted with by 3D objects or manifestations (such as dwarves and picks). When it's wave-like, it imparts extreme levels of energy to any object that touches it, instantly converting that object to plasma and dispersing it.

It's common knowledge that it is possible to dig into SMR as long as has not yet been discovered. This follows the Copenhagen interpretation, which holds that the state of SMR cannot be objectively determined until it is observed, causing it to assume one of these possible states (for some reason, this is always the wave-like state). Until observed, SMR can be thought of as simultaneously a wave and a particle.

Dwarves are able to dig undiscovered SMR because they're only interested in the particle-like properties. Somehow, this seems to work for them.

I don't know why but this thread makes me laugh :D, hope it never dies ;)

Yay :D

I'm surprised no one has mentioned drawbridges, which in 3d take up one z-level height and only one tile of thickness when raised no matter how many tiles they stretched across when lowered. Clearly the longer the drawbridge the more it raises into 4d, whereas only a drawbridge that is one tile long when lowered raises only into 3d.

1.5.0_30

Could you compile it in 1.5? There aren't any major changes between the two versions, are there?

Well I have tried, but unfortunately it's a no go :(  Aside from the various Swing and graphics acceleration issues that might arise, the launcher uses some classes that require 1.6 and, curiously, there seems to be a discrepancy in the way 1.5 and 1.6 handle @Overrides of classes and interfaces which means I would have to make not quite a few changes to the code or maintain two versions.  Sorry.  Upgrading to 1.6 is really a rather good idea though, it is several years old now and even the mythical 1.7 is available.

If your OS X version is Leopard or earlier (like mine), Apple locks your computer to use their own distribution of Java 1.5 as an incentive to upgrade, so that's not really an option.

206
Thanks, again.  I agree, a google search seems to indicate that you could be getting this because of an incompatible Java version.  What does "java -version" give you?  The Launcher is in Java 1.6, my java -version gives 'java version "1.6.0_18"'.

So my adventurer was told to slay a particular goblin, which I and my two companions did at the cost of my left eye. As soon as the gobbo was slain, the goblin this civ leader told me to kill... the entire city went hostile. Wat do?

LOOOOYALTYYYYYYY CASCAAAAAAAAADE

So, can we infer that wagons are fully three-dimensional?

I suppose they must be.

Although... there's always the possibility that they're 4-dimensional creatures that just decided to fuck the rules and project into more than one tile.

209
But then they wouldn't be able to interact with 3D objects at all!

Actually, they can.  A 2D object is like a sheet of paper and can pierce right through a 3D object.  That's how Flatlanders trap an intruding 3D being in their universe.

That said, even if the balista bolt (or anything else, for that matter) completely severs a limb off a 'dwarf' which is actually a 4D being, it's not actually that injured.  It's like drawing a stick figure on your arm, then taking a knife to him: he's severed in half (you just have a small cut).

But it has no mass in a 3D realm, so it can't impart any force within it.

On the other hand, it's infinitely sharp.

So it would go right through things and never stop...

Did you write it?

Have you read it?

Is it actually useful?

Is it more useful than reading the wiki or the forum?
