I'd argue that sweetbread is more of a 'what the fuck, bu- oh. ewwwww...'.

For the marksdwarves, remember there has to be a walkable path to the targets or they won't shoot at them. That means you can't put a bolt-saving channel underneath the targets because they won't be able to walk to that target any more. You can still channel out along the walls to save misfires though.

They won't appear on the civ screen until you've actually seen them, so you have to wait until your first ambush until you can browse your various imports and exports with them.

Not having to wander around the countryside picking up all the socks when I abandon a fort for a couple of weeks.

If not, you can repurpose soap maker shops by modifying the raws in order for them to double as display cases.

But soapmakers are useful! I'd rather mod the quern, since I have never, ever built one.

Aw, that would have been pretty awesome. I found a really cool "real" mario thing a while ago. Ever hear of it? http://therewillbebrawl.com/ It's got a pretty serious tone for the genre. And it's pretty entertaining, but it's a might gory at some parts.

That was on the Escapist about 2 years ago, wasn't it? Did you see Doomsday arcade? They had a pretty good go at doing a Mario too.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: A.I. Dwarf-System
« on: June 19, 2011, 07:29:12 am »
I tried this once by putting the AI dwarf inside a little box in the entrance hallway that was full of levers that controlled the various flooding mechanisms for the same entrance hallway. Basically, he got to watch out of the windows as sieges (and the occasional unlucky dwarf) got their shit fucked up at his whim. In the end *he* became mad with power and *accidentally* forgot to seal off the inner fortress from the drowning chamber. *He* cackled maniacally as everyone he knew ran to higher and higher levels of the fortress until eventually they were all crowded at the top of the highest warehouse, watching the water rise ever higher...

Basically, I didn't really have any trouble with it. He was quite reliable, in fact.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Can't plant surface crops on reclaim
« on: June 19, 2011, 07:21:51 am »
Make sure you've reclaimed all of the seeds on the map. Try d>b>c across the whole of each z-level and you should be able to pick up the seeds. I get this problem too though. Usually I find that collecting a few more seeds from the plants on the map fixes it.

One thing I noticed last time it happened is that the dwarves still kept planting using the seed designations from before I reclaimed, even though it wouldn't let me choose a new type of seed. It's just a slightly annoying bug.

It's so hard to get them to build walls... if you have Dwarf Therapist you can disable all other labours on the lazy ones and see if that helps, but otherwise you simply have to pray.

I doubt that. You obviously only have a few thousand cells.

« on: June 18, 2011, 06:32:25 pm »
My dwarves took 20 days to build 2 walls even though 15 dwarves with the appropriate labors sat around complaining about having nothing to do. The walls were supposed to stop magma from a failed experiment from trapping everyone inside, there were supposed to be 3 walls.

Dwarves bad, Stalin RAIGE.

Oh, how I hate wall building. It seems to have a lower priority than 'no job'.

Has anyone here played Lugaru?

I just tried playing through the campaign again, and I'm now stuck at the first three-wolf level. They're so tough...

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: which tileset?
« on: June 18, 2011, 03:52:12 pm »
I went back to ascii because I got annoyed at seeing armour stands in the world map all the time and beehives as full stops.

I use the square version though, because I like my square rooms to show as squares.
How did you get it square? I play in full screen currently but i dont like it
In Data>Init>init.txt, swap out the relevant lines for these ones:

[WINDOWEDX:80]
[WINDOWEDY:25]
[FONT:curses_square_16x16.png]

It looks a bit different and the dwarves have beards, but you get used to it fairly quickly.
