DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?
« on: May 21, 2011, 03:38:19 am »
Started up a new fortress/world for various reasons, and apparently in this ones, the little dwarflets get started young:

I think I need to figure out which baby that is and be ready to draft her into my military when she grows up...

Once one of my babies went insane and started trying to kill things. I think it actually managed to tear a cat's leg off before it got killed by a soldier.

I just glanced at the forum page again, and read this thread title as 'Yours is a prick that will pierce the heavens!'.

Teehee!

I never do. Even if that involves waiting for the last paralysed dwarf to starve to death, I wait it out to the end.

(besides being eaten, fps goes to heck)

Nope :P

My epic i7 processor can take it, unless I'm just lucky.

It's a shame, I really wanted to look at the engravings and stuff... :(

And the gaggle of trolls. Don't forget that.
...and your flock of lions?  *nodnod*

I hate you all...

Like Elephant Stockpile Mandrill Cat Remains?

It makes me sad that no-one seemed to get that...

Hurrah! Yay for Doren!

May she never be affected by random critical headshots!

...pack of lions...

Pride.

A group of lions is called a pride.

...shush. Let me be alone with my grief.

I really want to go and look at my old, dead fortress using a new adventurer, but it seems almost impossible to find. I can get its rough location, but it doesn't seem to show up on any detailed legends maps, and simply walking around until I see it would take hours...

Is there a simple way, or is it just a matter of searching carefully?

EDIT: Hurrah! I found it by choosing it as a Reclaim option in fortress mode, taking a screenshot, then carefully matching up the rivers to the area around me. Shame about the demons that instantly raped my face though...

I made 5 adventurers, each of whom got torn to pieces before managing to kill anything.

Then I made another one who completed two missions and killed a troll before getting ambushed by lions and failing to live any longer due to death.

I started today as well!

After about 5 failed adventurers, I managed to complete several missions and kill a troll before I got attacked by a pack of lions and eaten.

My main complaint is that I only managed to find a single fortress with anyone in it (except one which just had a law maker), and I accidentally killed all of the soldiers in that. I've heard that you can make that less likely with different worldgen parameters, but it's still annoying to spend ages getting to a new cluster of fortresses and finding nothing there except an angry honey badger.

Also, I seemed to get v. drowsy extremely quickly (after about 5 seconds of fast travelling). Could that be something to do with my shattered, infected right fingernail? Is there a way to cure an infection/treat wounds?

Finally, I'm now really excited for the next release. I used to read through development stuff and go 'meh' at all the adventure mode changes, but now I'm all hyped 'n' stuffs :D

Just put down a burrow where you want him to go.

Oooh! I have an idea! Make a little 1x1 hole, put him at the bottom of it, build a wall over the top, and then drop the wall on him :D No-one will ever know he's in there... :o

The problem I have with this is that I never really take notice of the exact traits of my dorves beyond their skills and nobility. I would never pay attention enough to notice that some of them were 'feeling drained' every so often, and even if I did, I might not have the patience to look through all of them to find one that is acting weirdly.

I always thought this was a little strange, but never really cared enough to complain.

Still, you'll never change the speech patterns of a thousand die-hard dwarfortressers!
