I'm just going to say that I'm American and I've planned to make a squad of "Captain America" dwarves for a while now. Just haven't had the right opportunity.

I laughed at the time, but I may have nightmares from this.

I recently had a line of badgers, followed by giant badgers, followed by badger men, followed by badgers. Thankfully, there wasn't any more than 1 line around at a time.

Another thing about ice... Don't designate "ponds" to be filled (for farming) during the winter. For the few minutes I left them, it was nearly impossible to see anything useful through all of the cancellation spam. "Urist needs a bucket for this." A bucket is found. "Urist can't find any water." The bucket is replaced. The cycle repeats. Don't expect the dwarves to ever realize that they can't fill until there is water on the map.

I tried it without the new fonts installed accidentally, but after I installed and re-opened DFMP it was the same. It was server 1.

By the way, great work on this, both of you. I love both the base and the new features.

At first I thought you said rock pets. That's a thread I could have gotten into.

 :'(
On this note: Does anyone know of a mod for pet rocks? Just curious.

That was quick. Already finished. "Perfect bone opal." Perfectly not tradable. There's an image of two fungiwoods on it. This guy really just doesn't care. Easy route to legendary.

That being concluded, I think I'll change the subject.

My gem cutter just got a secretive mood and whisked away a bone opal to the jewler's shop, immediately beginning work.

Am I just going to get a masterfully cut gem?

Okay, that's over. New topic: Deadly ice in fortress mode.

Lucky it was just a rabbit. This happened to an entire wave of migrants on a stream once. The entire wave, almost a dozen dwarves, all frozen.

Post your experiences with ice, if you want.

tl;dr
U mad?

Actually, I did read it all. There's nothing really to argue against you about. You present valid points. I just ignore those negative points of the game as much as possible and play it. It's just a game, and I play it to have fun. If I'm not having fun, I don't play the game. Pretty simple. I'd also like to note that the game is still fully and actively under development, and as such I'm actually amazed by how few bugs there are. That's just my opinion; you're free to feel however you want about the game.

Also, I have one thing I'd recommend. Try a 2x2 or smaller embark, and lower pop cap so no migrants past the first 2 waves come. Seal up the fortress, before or after the migrants arrive. Efficient pathing can also help improve FPS. That, or set your FPS cap at 30. I've seen people play like that; it rarely goes below that, so if you're used to 30, it really helps.

I run short-lived fortresses, mostly. I rarely see less than 100 FPS, and almost never less than 60.

EDIT: I ran that save. I got between 25 and 30 FPS. Your main problem is definitely size. 219 dwarves, several layers of the site almost entirely taken up by the fort. Discovered caverns also factor in there. Unless you get something like 4 FPS on this map, I think your situation is pretty normal. Even if it's that bad, a minor computer upgrade could go a long way. Like I said, though, I prefer shorter-lived forts, so I can't comment too appropriately on your playing style.

Guys, the download point is on the Steam page. I'll link it here for you lazy bums.

http://cityofminds.info:800/DFMP.zip

New version is up, download updated. New server, tilesets, and whatnot.

Does anyone else notice a lack of difference between the first 2 graphic sets? (Cootue and Mayday)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

As for getting involved, just play it. To play with plenty of others, wait for scheduled events. Optimally, join the Steam group. Basically, all the information can be found on the group page, linked in the OP.

Just had a fort with a curious structure-- and the weapon didn't show up in stocks screen until after I discovered it the hard way.  Don't know if there was a rehaul of the stocks system.
That might have been fixed. I know that the best way to find one is through the building list.

I'd agree that this could go in the Fan Art thread, but I'm not sure this really belongs anywhere.

I laughed, though.

Place it in a danger room. Use said danger room to train a spearlord. Deconstruct spear and give it to spearlord.
This. Or put it in magma (or otherwise light it on fire) and have it as an upright spear in your dining hall.

I never found one when I set my cavern layers to 2. I'm pretty sure you need 3 cavern layers for one to spawn in your world. Other than that, it's pure luck and/or tedious scumming.
It's not really tedious. 5 embarks max. All considered, that amount of time should be small in Dwarf Fortress.
