At least, most likely.  Dwarfs come down with cave adaptation, which causes that vast... open... sky and that... nauseating sun to make their stomachs churn.  I mean... just... look at it...  Euurrgh.

You could, technically, but the ocean replenishes, so you'd need lots of pumps.

I wonder if you were to start out from that civilization if you could also get elves as migrants to your fortress...

Or at the very least, if the civ had access to elven starting goods.

Indeed.  Although, I wonder if we'll have more support options when that comes.  Like timber supports as you would in mines, or the ability to build reinforced ceilings and walls through dirt.

You wouldn't always know that there was water above you.  For instance, an underground lake or river could be mined up into with out you knowing it.  A designation to ignore hot/damp stones in an area could be useful, however.

A specific bar structure could be fun, but why stop there?  Why not have shops turn into Taverns, that also serve food.  Sure, the dwarves can eat in the dinning hall all they want, but the idea here is that they're served the food, so they get a happy thought at the cost of some of their currency.
