My lawyer was a sleeper agent, when I got arrested, the jury said NOT GUILTY before the end of the trial  :) .

Women also say men are dogs. Soooo, I suppose that's a proof.

Yeah I noted that... Having a date with a guard dog, is a bit... Disturbing.

It's even more when you make them use weapons... Or use them like sleepers agents.

"Oh my god! They even brainwashed the dog!"

Exactly.

One more reason to stick to lawyers and judges. They are the better speakers and can get out of troubles by themselves. In fact, I don't see the reason to kill conservatives, it's more a pain than a gain. They drop ridiculous amount of money, the clothes has to be washed first, and the ones having weapons are a pain to kill so the weapon will cost you one or more lives. Plus the police heat is on you, and your hideout will be raided soon afterward, if any member of the squad could escape...

So, I ask, why killing conservatives? Do you gain something by doing so(better opinion for exemple)?

Yes, I think it's a suspension...

Anyway, there is a problem with the skills of the people of the streets...

Why are judges and lawyers so over-used, even for gunfights, where gang-members, soldiers and police officers should be the best for that kind of jobs?

Judges and lawyers are the best recruits in the game, after what I noted from the discussions here. I think we have a little balance problem here.

Either we lack of a way to train skills without risks(like schools for computer and law, or the famous shooting range and self-defense classes, or even driving school, why not?)
Or either there must be a way to revalue the different jobs, with a change in the alert/police system, or a change in the possibilities for a fighter not to get caught too often.

My advice is we must think about it, because why putting fast-food workers, prostitutes and crack head in the game if they are totally useless?

Hey! That's a nice idea. I think we could use those "Weird chemical" we found in the factories.

There are a really impressive number of uses:

-You go to a building with a bomb, then you plant it somewhere you think it won't be discovered. It can be either a time or remote bomb. If timed(you set the timer), you have to get out of the building as fast as you can. If remote, you can then blow it up when you want(as long it's not discovered). Cellulars can be used as remote control, for exemple.
When the bomb explode, depending on where it was planted in the building, the building type and the number of victims, the opinion is modified.
The better thing is to plant the bomb in a corner, or under a table, in a TV, a computer, or even on a factory machine so it can't be found. You can also place it somewhere you know it will affect people, but there is a chance the bomb will be found.

-You can also use suicide bomber to go in public places and either ask for something, or simply detonate.

-For even better effect, use a bombed car, park it in front of a building to detonate it later, or just drive IN the building.

-When a bomb is found, police forces send a special unit to try to disarm it. It aslo mobilise a big number of policemen, meaning their attention is focused on the bomb. It's a good way to use the bomb as a diversion, while an other squad kill, kidnapp, rob or move from the current hideout to an other.

-Using bombs in the Court House delay the trials and has an impact on further trials.

-Using bombs in a Police Station can serioulsy put a stop to all police activities.

-Why not also use the bombs for breaking liberals out of jail? A big hole in a wall, few weapons and we are out!

-Destroying sweatshops can influence the opinion a lot.

That's some random ideas... Just pick the ones you like   :) .

And about weapons crafting... Well, you can of course make knives with a rasor blade and a little stick, put nails on a club, and so on, but home-made pistols are also a possibility. I saw a gun made with car part on TV(don't know the english word for the exact part, it's the one preventing the car to bounce madly). And we forgot about the famous silencer thingies... Very easyly home-made the silencer is. And there is also the magazine size expansion. Very famous among the street gangs.

But it's better to have a knife than to be totally armless. I saw the difference in fight. You have to punch a guy more than 10 times to see him stop breathing. A good knife slicing can kill a guy in one or two blows. I even saw a pitchfork with an instant kill(the liberal aimed the head).

I admit I don't use weapons a lot, but I feel safer when I have one.

I'm sorry if you felt my little test like a reproach, because it certainly isn't...

I, was the only one to choose my own strategy, and my own approach. I had fun mass recruiting, but the bad part was when the cops were raiding an undefended place afterward, forcing me to either make a remake of the Sect of Wakko, or reload the game and doing it all over again.

I thought at first I should "occup the playground", striking everywhere, spreading the word to the masses until bringing the government to his knees.

But you're right, micromanaging ended up being tedious, and took a lot of thinking before actually playing the day.
5 pages of activists were hard to manage, but being the Mastermind was fun.

I realize now my first approach was a bad one. Maybe the manual should tell the player about the dangers of mass recruiting? Or maybe a wiki could help the new players like the Dwarf Fortress wiki did. I know I learned  a lot of things with it.

I want to point some things first, which are in my opinion, the first problems a player meet:

1)Money:
A lot of posts are about money, how gaining some, how doing it fast, what's the better approach, etc etc.
That's because you need money to be protected for cops. The player often end up his first game being killed in a cop raid, or arrested. Then he think about protecting himself better.
Money is also a prerequite to effective indoctrination.
Disobedience also require money.
So does equipment like weapons, and special clothes.

In most RPGs, you often begin with the traditional rusty sword, or wooden stick, and begin to kill things for money. Then, you can buy tools, and start using a trade skill to make your own items, and/or sell them. That's when you begin to have more money, you can use to gambling, play the market, or buy estates that will generate money.
You often end up owning nearly all the city/country, and bathing in money.

Maybe we lack of the snowball effect? It is said you need money to make money, in LCS, spending money don't really make you able to gain more money. What I mean is upgrading a safe house will not affect your income, for exemple, except if you consider your hackers will be safer.
Buying weapons don't make you able to use them for money gain. Going out with a team of overarmed people killing the whole conservative neighborhood will only end up with few hundred of buck gained, the police will follow you and you have a lot of chances to have a raid in the next few days, not counting your squad will probably get badly hurt in the process, if not totally wiped out.
Crime doesn't pay.

Maybe we should find a way to let the money work for the player, or at least making the money gain from small to big with good investment.
A big classic are bank accounts... But that's not the only one. Robberies using weapons are a possibility. Kidnapping and asking a ransom too. Or even insted of kidnapping, intimidating people with weapons to make them give money. Protection buisness is also an idea. Well... It's Liberal CRIME Squad.
All crime related options are a possibility after all.

2)Issue vs dating:

I noted, with same level in skills, issue is always inferior to dating. Most of the time, when you meet interesting recruits, like lawyer, lab tech, security guards, authors and so on, they don't even want to talk to you. Dating is the only option working

When you go in a crack house, on the other hand, you can recruit nearly everyone with issue, even if most of the time their skills will be very bad, even if I did recruit one time or two, a gang member with a SMG. Dating also works very well.

Plus dating make you able to even convince the conservatives to join you.

It's a bit frustrating, good talkers will always be less effective than good seducers, even if they can recruit a LOT in a good place like a crack house. Sadly, quality is better than quantity, so we all know what it means...

It's probably normal, but I think it's a little... Disturbing. At this rate, I will have slept with half of the city before the game ends. I'm not sure everybody want to be a beaver, building the dam with his tail  :) .

That's the two main points.

I like to see you concerned about the game Jonathan(Can I call you John?  :) ). I've been through a lot of games, like many of us, I suppose, and I know something for sure:

A lot of game don't have real limits, you have the freedom to do what you want, or that's what the game says. A lot of new games are about the concept of freedom.
But the truth is there is often a very good way to achieve the goal, and a lot of not so effectives or bad ones. So, of course you have the freedom to choose, but in fact you realise it's not really a choice. If you want to have fun, you will choose the faster one, except when you replay the game and want a challenge and have the time needed to take on of the others options.

What I mean is: The game already has limits. Micromaning is possible, but very very time-consuming, so player will try it, and will do like i did, start a new game while putting the game save somewhere else to try it later.

You have the chance to be supported and helped by others players(On the topic about suggestions, there are a lot of long posts about coding I can't understand...). You don't have a deadline, so you can, or we can? make the game better by trying and learning.

I admit the leadership skill seems a bit extreme, but it's an interesting concept. Just don't forget to keep the old save before you try something new  :) .

Hello again.

Actually I'm working on testing few ways of playing, seeing if there are big no-noes and if all the tactics have equal chances of winning.

My first approach of the game was based on: "If meet this person, try to recruit her."
I started by going in industrial district appartments and recruiting all I could, stealing all that wasn't nailed, and going out when the conservatives were getting nervous.

I ended up with numerous squads, all of them going to differents appartments to steal more and of course recruiting.
Halas, when checking the ranks of my activist, I noted a really intessing fact.
Most of them were hippies, transcients, teenagers, gang-members, prostitutes and so on.
Low classes, if you allow me to say so.
A lot of fighters without weapons, some workers who could infiltrate factories, and people with nearly no useful skill(clothes washers...).

I thought it was important to have a lot of members to act everywhere, if possible. I tried to avoid killing, but it sometimes happened, and I used it to steal special clothers and infiltrating more places, sometimes making my own clothers. I never bought any weapons, because even with constant stealing an selling, I couldn't make money fast enough.

Each day(a turn) was very long because I had 10 or so squads to move with constant recruiting. It became a real pain to play, and I had nearly no real proteciton due to lack of money, so cops raids were real slaughter like Zerg rush on a Terran base.
Read by this: A whole of unarmed hippies charging the polices forces with bare hands, and trying to kill a cop to pick a weapons.
Hilarious, yes, but sad too... Reoganising squads after that took me too much time, and made me stop playing for nearly a week because it was frustrating.

So, I put the save somewhere else, and tryed an other approach.

I tried to choose my recruits, instead of letting everyone in.

First step: Working on money.
I went to the cybercafe, and dated programmers, when I saw trying to convince them was totally useless. Each day, one more programmer, and all of them working on disobedience(hack).
I invested to have a safehouse with all upgrades, continuing recruiting programmers. Then I built the Guardian in an other. I saved around 3000$ and moved to phase two.

Step two: Being on the side of the law.
I moved to the courthouse and dated lawyers and judges. I convinced the liberal and moderates ones to join me, because they have a big persuasion needed to indoctrinate. I kidnapped the conservatives and indocrinated them with the money I now get quite often with hacking.

I had a cop raid some weeks later, to test the effect of my three sleepers lawyers, I surrendered. Many programmers ratted me out.
Then the trial started.
All the guys who stayed with me, with the help of one of my conservative lawyer, were found not guilty.
The funnier was when I, actually was accused of theft, racket, kidnapping and car theft. The jury were screaming not guilty BEFORE the end of the trial.

I now begin to think it's not even usefull to build upgrades for safehouses, but I will keep doing it just in case.

I will try to reach around 10 sleeper lawyers just to be sure, and around the same number of judges. It should make me totally law-proof.
In the same time I will also try to indoctrinate police officers, soldiers and agents if I find some.
The objective is to have total immunity then i will move to phase three, working on the opinion.

This approach works far better than the last, proving quality is better than quantity.

From my experience, yes, with good hackers can give you a lot of money, but most of the time, the people you will recruit with computer skills aren't very effective.

Plus you will always end up having police raiding the place.

Burglary is efficient when well organized. With a lot of squads going in appartements and other spots and stealing all they can found, and a one-man squad who take all the loot to sell it, you can make good money.

Sadly, it's always risky, if things go bad, conservatives will attack you, the cops will chase you, wich lead to fighting, murdering and police investigations then of course, raiding.

Donations are the longer but safer way to earn money. Selling brownies can be good, but  your activist get arrester pretty often.

One thing I don't like is you don't make money fast enough to have for one good hideout, or two acceptable. You always end up with a raid before, and the raid supress your hard earned buisness front, 3000$ for nothing...

The raid annoucement is also at the total end of the day, wich mean you have to reload the game and make all the turn AGAIN while changing the orders to have a chance.

Thanks a lot for the new version!

I can finally page up and down like if there were no tomorrows! So, there are crack factories... I wonder what I can do there.

Now I can use all my activists, wich means more squads and more income.

Yeah for Liberal keyboard!

I read some people talking about hacking, but I don't know how to do that.

Where can I hack something worth the effort?

Hello!

First things first, I downloaded this game more by curiosity. I noted most of people(like me), try Dwarf Fortress first and stick with it. And of course, because it's so good and time-consuming, you don't have time to try LCS.

I took the time to try LCS and had fun from the first minutes playing. Later in the night, my mind was focused on it and I just couldn't stop(at wich point, the game crashed, and I dediced to call it a night, but that's not the point).

We're in 2007, FMVs are everywhere, 3D has now become common, and 2D games are has-been for most of the kids...
But I'm having more fun playing LCS than playing a lot of modern games.

Well, what could I say? This game is great, even if I haven't played a game month, and haven't see all of it. Congratulations for making it, and thanks making us able to play it.

Sadly, I now must change my Mister Nice Guy cap for the Mister Annoying one...

I won't complain about crashes, well, they happen, but we can save and it prevents gamers to feel a dangerous addiction.

I will only need you help for two things.

1)The famous pageup/pagedown thingy.
As a french player, I have an azerty keyboard, and I think I tried most of possibles way to actually make a pageup/pagedown thingy without any result. So, I have, I think, something like 60+ people in my hideout and I can't even use more than the half of them, wich is quite sad... And there are places I will never see for the same reason.

Fiddling with or without numlock, changing to brackets and using alt-keys proved not to be enough.

Does any of you have an idea of what to do to be able to scroll up and down in a such situation? If only I could use up and down arrow keys to do it...

2)Money

I have some problems finding money. I mean, a lots of money. Thievery is my first source of money, stealing and selling TVs along with the occasional printer, cellphone or silverware. I tryed to have one guy sell brownies, but it doesn't seem to work very well(plus, he got his limbs broken by a group of rednecks). And asking for donations doesn't seem to have a direct effect(maybe at month change? I still don't know).

Any tips for fast money?

Thanks for you reading.

The raid random move happened to me too, and it's for the best. I had to blast past three groups of cops, and lost more than 10 people in the process, even if by the time I reached the door, I had 2 people carrying a shotgun, 2 with  handguns, one with a knife and the last swinging a nightstick. 4 groups would have been lethal...

But at least I proved police forces torture minorities. I WAS the minority...

I had the same problem with scrolling because I use an azerty keyboard. The latest version gives you the ability to use azerty keyboard by changing the init file. In this file all is explained about how to change the keys to scroll and make them work depending of your keyboard.

And about skills, I noticed that too. It seems the only skills going up are the ones you use on the "field". But maybe I'm wrong.
