Well maybe the kid didn't have a father because his mother didn't remember.
You know such thing happens. :P

Can we chain work animals? Because the "assign" list doesn't have those named pets.
So maybe it is not about sentience, but names?

I think babies should drink water if they are abandoned so you need others to give them water like in a hospital.

But, maybe you can backup your save, retire your fortress for a while and see if the baby is still there.

Can we assume they traded with other civilizations, or robbed from goblins?

My hospital runs pretty well. Though sometimes when I was not watching, they suture using adamantine threads.

Yeah, I hope there's an adoption system.

Can you cut a tree from its middle section? I had lots of trees that grow in waters...

Can we get a save? I wonder what kind of fall can tear your limbs off. Maybe it was a cave-in.

I'm not sure but when I played as an adventurer and visited my fort, it was filled with merchants (lots of them).
And a wagon half hung over a wall. I don't know how it got inside in the first place, my entrances were all 1x1.

Hostile creatures can also "teleport" to random position when you unretire. I had a demon right inside on of the bedroom...it was supposed to be on another side of the bridge.

There are too many possibilities especially when you are using dfhack to do things which are not supposed to be done in a normal game.

Well I restored previous 40.13 save.
I managed to heal all unhappy dorfs.
I locked an insane dorf in a room so no one could find the corpse.

Everything seemed OK, but the trade depot was smashed by some tantrum throwing dorf. So the elven caravan left without their goods.... it took me a while to get rid of all those wood junks.

Meanwhile, I'm buiding a Mario on my workshop level.

VMs don't make things faster, usually. In fact, they are usually slower.

DF Gameplay Questions / I retired. I unretired
« on: December 04, 2014, 03:08:56 am »
My fortress had so many tantrum throwing dorfs and the guards didn't seem interested in bringing them to justice. So I retired the fortress and played as a dwarf adventurer.

When my adventurer arrived at my fortress, a message said there was a war with the Elf. I talked with some merchants, one mentioned a trouble causing mountain titan who's name was Tipi, who I recalled clearly was killed in my fortress. Another NPC said there was an open war with a group call blahblah Axes, who didn't agree with the way we treated the plants(what?).

Because my computer ran the adventurer mode so slowly, I jumped from the tower after greeting the queen and splashed on the ground.

Then I unretired my fortress....

There were only 47 dorfs left(there used to be 116 or so).

But, there were 370+ "other creatures", including some local animals, many human and elven merchants and their animls, many hostile human and dwarven soldiers.

The corpse of my adventurer lied at the foot of the tower.

But the hostile soldiers didn't attack me. In fact, many of them were inside my fortress. It was like embarking using dfhack over another already existing fortress.

So what happened?

After I unpaused the game, a falcon demon attacked my living area... so I abandoned the game.

What if you engrave a slab for him and check what the inscription says?
Or you can backup your save and check the name in Legends mode.

I think there are very large beasts. For example, a forgotten beast.
