DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Cave Adaptation
« on: October 16, 2014, 07:34:48 pm »
At first I wondered why floors were all rendered green when caravans arrived.
Perhaps I should dig some ramps or build a roof and put the trade depot inside.
There's no need to go upstair since my current map is a desert.

I have a skeleton of a dwarven adventurer in my fortress, but the dwarves won't bury him. I did reclaim the body, but...
Which civilization did he come from? If it's not yours, he's not getting into a coffin. He could be put in a graveyard with a "dump" command.
She was mine though. I checked before embarking...

Well I guess you can't bury him unless you play a reclaim or unretire game.
My current fort has a refugee from previous game but I can't choose to entomb him.

I was preparing a squad to kill the goblin weredeer Gozru Emrusmu Estrazusta, but instead I found its partial skeleton lying there.
I checked the logs and it appered the goblin was killed by a .... Honey Badger!? :o

Indoor/outside refuse collection is borked, turn on "dorfs collect outside refuse" and "collect vermin remains" to fix it.
Thank you. That works.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Dwaves won't dump items
« on: October 13, 2014, 07:51:24 pm »
Well this sounds like an old problem. I hadn't played the game for a long while before version 4.x was released so I can't recall clearly.

Sometimes, dwarves just ignore items marked as dump. Yesterday some cow starved underground near the meeting hall. I marked it and designed a garbage dump area, but months had passed no one made a move towards it. I even checked the j menu, there's no job named dump and almost everyone was idle.

Sometimes it works if I build a stockpile over said items but sometimes the dwarves just decide to leave them rotting in the dining room and dance in miasmas.

Well perhaps the game doesn't consider madness as a valid factor. When a new game starts it just checks if there's any survivor from previous fortress and generats some tents/corrals/whatever.

As for the mad planter, I traded his clothes for some logs and barrels, butchered his animals for food. Eventually he died from dehydration. RIP.

Yeah I didn't think that was possible. It's just awesome. 8)

BTW, topic updated.

My newly started fortress was inside a lair. There was a single goblin on another side of the map.
Everything seemed fine until...

Gozru Emrusmu Estrazusta, Goblin has transformed into a weredeer!

My last fortress (embarked inside a goblin lair) was swarmed by demons from hell, everyone was dead except a possessed planter.
The planter was at a leather works demanding silk cloth. Unable to do anything so I retired the fortress.
After unretired the fortress I found the planter had gone stark raving mad, wandering in his demon infested bed room.
I abandoned the fortress before he got killed.

Then I started a new game that embarked just besides my last fortress. It appeared to be another goblin lair(or part of previous one, I'm not sure), there were several corral things filled by all kinds of tamed animals. The mad planter was inside one of them, sharing one tile with a stay kangaroo.  :o

Edit*

Well that's strange, last time I checked the mad planter, he blinked like any legendary one and his profession also changed to 'ringleader'.  :o

After a polite discussion with local rivals, Onul Whippedbrains has claimed the position of king of The Wires of Quickness.

1. A forgotten beast got me, its poisonous breath killed many. Had to make many coffins.

2.  I have dug to -10 and there's no sign of magma. Considering the ground level is at 170+, that is really strange. I decide to stop current fortress for I want to try the new version.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Why was this dwarf trapped?
« on: March 23, 2012, 07:58:34 pm »
His current dig job isn't the square he can reach.  De-designate (d-x) that square and re-designate (d-d) it to be dug, and he should start moving again.

Yes, I did. When the rescuers were digging, I removed the designations on those broken floors. Or maybe he was targeting the new tunnels instead, hehe.

But anyway this makes a lot of sense.

DF ramps dont really show up graphically as they are logically inside the game. The ramps in that pic proably look like this in the logic:

Code: [Select]
_D_  |
____/

Meaning he has no way down.

Yeah, I realize that now. That is why ramps became openspaces. I need to design carefully next time. For now I shall lock the entrance with a hatch.

Though it doesn't explain why he didn't dig the wall either. You know if the rescuer can reach him, there must be a way that connected them.

... if you are asking about the wall north of him
Nah, I mean the wall east(right) of him. Which shown in the picture as part of the rescue tunnel. Actually I tried almost all tiles when he got trapped before I sent someone else to save him.

Caged a dragon who lost one of its paw(?) for unknown reason, perhaps it was done by some random adventurer, heh.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Why was this dwarf trapped?
« on: March 23, 2012, 11:15:28 am »

I was digging some ramps, but I made some mistakes, so several parts became open spaces and some dwarves seemed to be trapped in certain floors.
So I dug a straight up/down stair to rescue them.

Then I found this dwarf. There's obviously enough space for him dig through the walls. But for some reason he didn't accept any mining command through the wall (I let him dig a channel and a downward stair to test if he was able to move, and he did). Until the rescuer came and saved him.

So what was stopping him from leaving that place?
