DF Suggestions / Re: Quick fixes for Goblin Towers/Sieges
« on: April 20, 2015, 10:14:22 am »
Maybe breaking down the dark fortress into several sections? For example, there are 10000 goblins in the fortress and the fortress has 25 sections (for example, 5x5 area), each section has its own population caps(400 or so).

As for siege, maybe a siege can has backup squads. For example, the first wave have 100 goblins, when you kill 50 of them, the second wave come, replacing those dead units.

My current world has only 1 cavern and no magma. It runs fast enough(150fps).
I wonder if you can still have volcanos without magma layers.

In my experience, junks don't affect fps much, unless your dwarves  carry them around constantly.
Also, not having any cabinet helps fps because currently it is bugged, dwarves will always try to store their spare/tattered clothes.

Kobold ambush!
The caravan guards fought the them off but there were some giant capybaras on the map and they killed a hammerdorf, treaing his arm off.

Oh, my dorfs actually buried him! I thought they only bury their own citizens.

Gross, in my country capybaras are pretty common and are very docile animals. Is kinda funny imagine a capybara tearing an arm.

Giant capybara to capybara is like tiger to cat, I guess.

Two forgotten beast came.

A great feathered toad. It was killed easily.
And a periclase quadruped with a gas attack. It butchered the elven caravan and smashed the trade depot. Good.

A giant lion tamarin corpse attacked the homeland caravan and got a steel spear lodged in the brain. The wagons didn't even stop as if nothing happened.

What if you turn him military? Will he attack the undead and get killed?

The well shaft turned out to be a big security risk, so I sealed it with a retracting bridge unless someone needed it.
The tombs in the shaft were also smashed by unknown creatures, exposing the corpses.

Wild boar corpses slaughtered the elven caravan.

The Wild Boar Sow Corpse kicks The Yak Cow in the head with her left rear hoof and the injured part collapses into a lump of gore!
The Wild Boar Sow Corpse kicks The Donkey in the head with her right front hoof and the injured part collapses into a lump of gore!
The Wild Boar Sow Corpse kicks The Elf Merchant in the head with her right rear hoof and the injured part explodes into gore!

The caravan from mountainhome arrived. The seven dorf carried the remaining goods from the human caravan to the trade depot.

Suddenly, some albatross zombies appeared. At first I thought it was an easy fight as I saw albatross after albatross being shot down like flies...
Then I noticed one of my dorf and his pet cat died among the albatross bits. The bone helm didn't save him from their bite attacks.

The expedition leader and the militia commander gave birth to their babies at the same time, almost.  Maybe their children will become the 3rd married couple in 12 years?

I tried to use dfhack's quicksave command but the command line box brought up die command instead(I pressed the up arrow key)...
And my progess died with it.

Edit*

Fine, the save was before my expedition leader was beaten up by a giant olm. At least I can save a crutch.

The elven caravan were attacked by two zombie albatrosses.
While they were righting my dorfs retreated to their burrow without a scratch.
Just when I thought the elves were dead, I found they had killed the two zombie birds.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Later that year, the human caravan came. But unfortuante for them, this time there were giant albatross zombies so all of them were butchered by the dead.

I think the rule is the biome. I never saw a barren cavern before, however.
Is your site under sea?
