DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?
« on: March 14, 2015, 07:28:23 am »
Got some migrants form a previous fort. One had an unicorn hair crown and the other had a kea bone crown.
So I recruited them, and the latter became a new kea shooter.

Id Bakustid, Clothier has created Emuth Belal, a brown recluse spider man silk right mitten!

Until then I realised they were collecting brown recluse spider man silk.

DF Gameplay Questions / the mystery of anvil

We know dwarves can't make anvils if they don't have any anvil. But how did they get the first anvil?

Well once I locked 40 GCS in a room and the fps still dropped as if they ran freely.

634
Well construct a platform over the magma, burrow everyone, then remove the support.

How bad your fps is when you are looking at a level with no plants? I know forest map do have a big impact on fps.

In my experience, if I have 80 dwarves and 40 animals, the fps drops significantly. When the caravan comes, they can add 60 to 80 more creatures to the map. When this happens, my fps usually dops to 1/3 of its normal value.

The biggest fps factor is living creatures on your map.

How many livestocks do you have?

637
My current world is called Namateyo(forgot the translation). Nothing too interesting, look like some random romaji thrown together.
5 minutes ago I created a new fort, and it was called Akumasen. Although the translation doesn't sound too fun, "Caughtgravel".

638
I always wonder how a 1 years old kid wear full-sized clothes.

639
Hmm, strange. The shot cut is "p".
Do you have a trapper? Maybe you can't actually make it if no one has the trapper labor enabled.

As the goblin siege arrived, I released the trapped human and dwarf caravan guards I'd collected. They moved towards the end of the road, like they normally would. The goblins were coming from here. Yes, yes! Everything's going perfe- a dragon? What?!? A dragon can show up during sieges?!? Okay... I can handle thi- why is my commander running around? "Overcome by fear!" What? Why are there zombies in the lower levels? Why is there a pair of necromancers in the cavern!?! WHY IS THIS HAPPENING!

To sum it up: my cool trap was ruined by a dragon, my military is tied up fighting surprise zombies, and there's apparently been three necromancers in the cavern. Seriously, how did those three get there?

How can you have so many FUNs at the same time?

641
Oh, that is because some small (vermin) animals need to be put into animal traps. Just let your carpenter build one.
If you just want to empty the cage, you can build the cage and link it to a lever then pull the lever.

As for your second question, check here: http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Cave_adaptation

642
Small cage?
What exactly is the message? I've never heard of small cage.

I guess many people may miss those murderous elephants of Boatmurdered.
But realy nowadays even keas and buzzards are deadlier. You can only see aggressive elephants in arena mode or when they are enraged.

New fort.
A woodcutter broke some limbs and other dorfs carried him into the hospital. No splints? No problem, there were tons of logs. But then they reported there was no water source so Urist McWoodsman couldn't leave the hospital.

Urist McWoodsman: I'm dehydrated! I'm starving! I want some beer!
Other dorfs: NO! Patients can't drink beer. We must find you some water.
(some weeks later)
Urist McWoodsman: But I'm fully recovered! I can help my self!
Other dorfs: NO! Patients can't leave hospital until they receive water and food.
Urist McWoodsman: Fine, get me some food.
Other dorfs: NO! Patients must have water first.
Urist McWoodsman: (faint)

Some days later, they finally found a water source 80 z-levels below the ground, and built a well. They brought Urist McWoodsman a bucket of water before they gave him some food. Urist McWoodsman , now fully healed, was finally allowed to leave the hospital.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Fewest dwarfs you play with max
« on: March 13, 2015, 08:25:11 am »
@Naryar: To get sieges below a pop of 80 you need to change the corresponding parameter prior to world generation from 3 (80) to 2 (50) or 1 (20) [...\raw\objects\entity_default.txt, PROGRESS_TRIGGER_POP_SIEGE (and/or default disabled PROGRESS_TRIGGER_PROD_SIEGE, PROGRESS_TRIGGER_TRADE_SIEGE)]. I had a few boring fortresses before I stumbled on someones' mentionings of this.

You are preaching to the choir... done this already. No change. And I also do play with fortress defense, so...

The only attacks I've got in my fort were a cyclops just after hitting 50 dwarves, a weregila monster, and a tiny attack consisting of a goblin marksgob and what looked like ten jotunar peasants. No weapons, no armor, and no they weren't wrestlers.

Not even a single forgotten beast despite 100 dwarves. Though in this fort I do live on the surface, though I interact with the cavern often enough.

Maybe you should check the populations of the goblins. Maybe they are dead.
