I'm also unable to craft high boots.

I have a very similar issue in my steam version.
Dwarves have an upward staircase, the next z lvl has a downward staircase designation, but nothing happens...
What am I doing wrong?

So, the problem that I always face is desire to obtain acquire object / be extravagant.
AFAIK you can designate 2 empty stockpiles of trinkets and junk and host a biannual haulfest.
Now, I'm really new to minecarts and how they work.
Can I add a minetrack between 2 stockpiles: will dwarves be able to grab items they like when they take it to the cart?
Any other happiness increasing suggestions are welcomed!

DF Gameplay Questions / Can't get Obsidian from my Stockpile.

My first shot at an obsidian farm has hit a snag.
I have dug out all obsidian and designated it for dumping to a dumping site.
Now I cannot access it: there's a huge pile of different stone in 1 square but no one uses it.
I've removed dumping designation, removed forbidden designation, replaced dumping stockpile with an obsidian storage one.
Did I do something wrong and how can I make obsidian be seen & used by my guys?

E.g.
At the moment I want to install an important door, build some walls and link a lever, but all my dwarves are busy with at their workbenches etc...

How can I know if it is indoors or outdoors (apart from the obvious)?
Can I change outdoors into outdoors and otherwise?
I'm mostly interested in windmills (can I make them work underground) and farmplots (can I plant cave plants outside and regular plants in the caves).

I'm assuming you have the Premium version, because in older ones the info is readily available.

Why would you assume that? The free version of the game is exactly the same and also has this issue. Don't think people have ever needed to qualify that they update their game on time when posting in this forum.

I got on the steam train because I'm too lazy:D
But i don't think that these versions differ too much, right?

Yeah, I see that this is a very sound point.

What I was also not sure about - is there a "noise" stat or condition?
Like dwarves are having bad mood because of the clanking.

My main problem now is not being able to keep my dwarves not grumpy.

Might want to avoid multi-use rooms, as it impacts the value of those rooms. While the zones can overlap, when figuring room quality, the stuff is not double-counted.
eh depends on how many zones you're stacking, 2 zones? that's a bit of a waste, because the value of every tile is roughly halved even if it's just ONE tile overlapping, 32 different temples? that's just efficient because the value is only halved once total.

They don't overlap.
E.g. in one big hall I have a prison ward: sherif's office, his dining hall and 3 cells. They don't overlap but there're no walls/doors between them.

I've been watching some tutorial and just DF stories and I noticed one thing: most forts have rooms.
Most workshops and halls etc. have separate rooms with door/doors.
Is there a mechanic that encourages this behavior or it's simply an aesthetic choice?
My forts are usually big open areas that mash workshop floors or combo dining halls with temples and so on.

When placing bedroom zones, is it still true that unassigned bedrooms will be automatically claimed by dwarves or do you have to manually assign them?  I designated a few and left them for a while, which nobody claimed.  Maybe I didn't let it run long enough before manually assigning them.
I think they do.
I usually make a room, put a bed and a coffer inside, stick a door, make a zone and let the lil guy sort it all out themselves.

Well, the current arc of Endtour, a proud dwarf fort ended in fire miasma and a bunch of dead swallowpeople and forgotten beasts.
You'll not be forgotten!
At least I don't have to deal with that nasty aquifer any more.
I actually started a sizable project on draining the flooded caverns


It actually had a significant progress as the the upper levels were submerged as well.
