Yah, it sounds like minecraft with content, you have obviously missed the point, people dont like content, they like differnt coloured blocks

Minecraft is ultimately about building, hence the different coloured blocks. It's appeal lies in being computer lego with more effort required to get the pieces.

Terraria is about dungeon delving and fighting, with some building elements. It's essentially a Metroid-style Rougelike.

Skyrim is about dungeon delving exploring and questing. Building in a realistic 3D engine can't really work if you ask me, it either looks out-of-touch with the rest of the game (see the RTS mod for Fallout New Vegas) or is realistic and that'd just be boring.

Though I do like the RTS mod for Fallout: New Vegas...wonder if a Skyrim version of that or similar will be released...

My main concern about my ability to enjoy Fall of the Samurai is I *suck* at using and fighting guns. My basic military strategy is:
Yari Ashigaru and Naginata Samurai at the front.
Archers behind.
Yari Samurai and Katana Cavalry on the flanks.
Yari and/or Katana Cavalry just hanging around.

And to basically march through the enemy. The Ashigaru and Naginata lock them in place and grind through them (The Naginata are also a moral block, they help stop chain routs), whilst the Yari Samurai and Cavalry keep the flanks clear and flank the enemy to hammer and anvil them. The Yari/Katana cavalry meanwhile slam into enemy archers/gunners to keep them distracted and drive them off, hunt down broken units so they don't regroup, and generally cause havoc.

It works fine fighting early armies, but when they get guns I usually suffer huge losses to walls of the things because I just can't have my cavalry take them out fast enough...though this is the basic strategy (Spears, Archers, Flank Guard, Chaos Causers) I've been using since the original Medieval: Total War so I probably need to start experimenting xD

I've been meaning to start a Let's Play of Third Age: Total War, but am currently watching old episodes of Time Commanders. That Let's Play is an attempt to procrastinate from my last piece of coursework due in about a fortnight, and sending letters to employers for my university work placement year (which I started writing earlier to procrastinate from the afore mentioned coursework).

A Precision F-Strike does have more impact if you don't swear every sentence anyway. But I consider it fine to swear if you, for example, stubb your tow (since that damn well hurts!)...also I don't consider "damn" or "bloody" to be swear words since they are so bloody-damn tame xD

There is a difference between policy and 'policy'. Whilst it technically has to be all your own work, all universities I know of aren't going to smack you down if you get outside advice or opinions so long as you understand the advice and don't just "copy and paste" their implementation. Write it yourself so it fits with the rest of the code etc. Just treat all code shown to you by others as pseudocode to demonstrate the concept.

As for network API, I'd probably go boost just 'cause it's friggin' boost, it is practically an official extension to the standard library for C++ in it's own right. If ever networking made it into STL odds are good it'd look something like how boost implements it.

My opinion on swearing is perhaps best expressed by the living incarnation of charm and charisma, Stephen Fry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_osQvkeNRM

Only just noticed that Medieval II was using my Integrated Card -_- Bloody Optimus technology >.< Well, that explains how the game wasn't topping 30fps...kinda impressed by how it was getting 30fps off of just the CPU with all graphics settings at maximum actually 0_o

I've currently spent upwards of 10 hours getting the new mint Win7 installation of my GF to work correctly

Required joke: Your girlfriend is Windows 7? xD

My 'hilarity' aside, hmm, odd Window installation for me is always was "leave installing and do other shit". The main time is spent tracking down and installing the various programs I want...Linux does have it's package thingie, but I'm apathetic towards that (neither thrilled nor annoyed).

At least Microsoft will let you play around freely with their hardware.

Apple are more "No, you can't play with us! No! Oh fine, if you insist, but only if this large burly man in a dark suit and glasses can watch, spit on you every five minutes and take you into a dark room and violate you in every imaginable way whenever we decide it would amuse us".

In contrast Microsoft will just put a small man in a priest frock in the room who sits in the corner and just stares at you, never saying anything, never moving, never even blinking, barely breathing. One day, you know he will rise out of his chair and when that day comes your world will either explode in fire and pain or cookies, but for now he is just there, sitting and staring.

Linux just runs around offering to take its clothes off to everyone it meets, but does so in a strange alien language so that you don't realise what the offer was until it is too late and Linux has already ran up to the next person.

Nope, I don't understand these metaphors either xD

Today I was walking past a bus station near the university when someone talking to his (I assume) friend shout out "I am Iron Man!". I shouted back "Has he lost his mind? Can he see or is he blind? Can he walk at all, or if he moves will he fall?". He then proceeded to sing with his friend "Is he alive or dead? Has he thoughts within his head? We'll just pass him there, why should we even care?". Then a bus came and he got on it, and I carried on walking.

A man does a thing. This thing does another thing. This thing does another thing. Then everybody died.

I'm not sure where the logic lies in statements deliberately constructed to be as generically useless as possible...

How about "Bobby practices X. X doesn't hurt anybody in itself any more than practices Y and Z do. Johnny believes Q and practices Y, Q doesn't itself hurt people but it encourages a social attitude that leads to the dehumanisation of a specific group of people who practice X, causing them to be treated as sub-human and often suffer immense personal pain that can go to great extremes."

Well there is a handwave that I can think of. The roman style of armour in Morrowind looked like it was breezier and more flexible than the Cyrodiilic armour, meaning it could of been said that armour was for the more mountainous and volcanic climate of Vvardenfell, compared to the temperate rainforest of Cyrodiil. Skyrim is mountainous and cold, so you more the heavily padded but still more flexible roman-esque armour.

Of course, that style of armour probably isn't more flexible but hey, I am bullshitting xD

Interestingly, the Imperial Armour in Oblivion resembles the guard armour in Daggerfall.

And so it is, that the information age comes to its knees and rioting and violence become the voice of the common man, when everything else has turned a blind eye. And what bought about this state of anarchy? Not kings, nor generals, nor gods themselves, but the very information we prized, being covenanted by those that see it as not enlightenment, but a commodity.[/i]

Totally read this in Morgan Freeman's voice xD
Ron Perlman for me.

Now I keep switching between Ron Perlman and Morgan Freeman. I have never been so confused, and yet so aroused...

GCC supports variadic templates, nullptr, and constexpr. It's just a compiler/assembler/linker suite, so you'll need to grab a separate IDE. I use Geany (for small projects) and Code::Blocks (for larger projects).

I don't remember if anything earlier than GCC 4.7.4 supports variadic templates, though. If not, I can toss you a binary for 4.7.4, since official binaries haven't been released yet.

I am aware of this. Personally I use nuwen's build of GCC 4.6.1. GCC has had variadic templates since around 4.4 I think. The thing that confuses me is how the autocomplete for eclipse supports the complex variadic templates and lamdas very well, but you still have to hack your away around something as relatively trivial as nullptr xD

Just looking at the added feature list for 4.7. Delegating constructors and template aliases? Awww yeah :D
