DF Modding / Stupid Modding Trick: Making enemies explode.

Not in the "evaporation" sense, either. I mean straight up exploding and endangering all nearby.

It's a very simple method: have either an interaction or a material that, when used on an enemy or globbed at an enemy, will give them an interaction that forces them to keep using an UNDIRECTED_DUST interaction for as long as they're conscious. Using END times, you can have them have a chance to to survive this, but that's no fun.

Example: Say you have... a covenant grunt. He uses a long-cooldown interaction called "lob plasma grenade". When used, he'll "throw" a "plasma grenade" at his opponent. If it hits, you'll see an evaporation and the poor bastard at the other end will start knocking himself around with his undirected dust.

I wrote an entire post about how I know a lot, but I'm not good at any of it.

But then I read it.

Holy shit, really? I think that's bad? I can improvise at will on 4 musical instruments, 3 of which I learned over the course of a year (the same year), I learned how to mod X-plane in 4 days, and figured out some of the most difficult concepts and workarounds in DF modding in a few weeks.

And here I am complaining because I think I have no coordination. The hell? Just because my handwriting is completely unintelligible and I can't construct geometry without the aid of a computer doesn't mean that I have no coordination.

...does it?

Seriously, I have other things that I'm actually good at, and I worry about my handwriting? In this computer-run world? Besides, this is what dedicated artists are for :P

This mod was originally designed to be part of the next update for my science mod; however, I discovered something and decided to upload what I had done immediately.

I've found out how to create items using interactions (adventure mode only).

It's really simple: make a material with a lower MAT_FIXED_TEMP than its MELTING_POINT, then use that material as a liquid spatter material emission for a secret/any other interaction. Pick up the spatter and it will solidify; this item can be used in reactions that specify a material, but no item. In this example, "enchanted ice" can be made by "waterbenders" through a spatter interaction; then, that "enchanted ice" can be used to make a water whip or 7/7 water.

DF Modding / Were plant materials broken recently?

I've found that, no matter what I do, I can't make reagents using plant materials. For example, this product:

Of course I have the POTION_SCIENCE plant, but it's apparently not being recognized.

Also, one other thing--forgot who I heard this from, but it was said that you could have a reagent just be, say, REAGENT:A:1:FLASK instead of REAGENT:A:1:FLASK:NONE:NONE:NONE. This is false, and spat out an error saying that a token modifying the reagent, [EMPTY], was an invalid material token called [EMPTY.  It may appear to work, but it really doesn't.

COUNTER_TRIGGERs are a group of variables that can be called upon in interactions determine when the interaction should take place; these currently have such uses as vampires' teeth getting longer while sucking blood (with DRINKING_BLOOD), making creatures start exploding dust around when they've spent too long without a drink (ALCOHOLIC), etc.

The next version will include state-of-mind information to determine recklessness, fear, etc. So why not, say, include all of that info as COUNTER_TRIGGERs? This would allow, for example, a creature to turn green, huge, and destructive when they become angry, or use only allow the use of certain interactions (huge downsides, etc.) when the creature is desperate (backed into a corner etc.).

Ah, heck, let's just go with all of the variables!

THIRSTY: thirstiness.
HUNGRY: hungriness.
TIRED: tiredness.
EXERTED: exertion.
BLOOD_LOSS: blood lost.

I've been going apeshit all over this recently. Seriously, picked up a new copy of Ace Combat 5, played it for two days straight, remembered just how much world building there is for a freaking arcade flight simulator, started playing the Japanese Ace Combat 3, realized that holy shit this looks like Ghost in the Shell and that my freaking wingmates have more character within the first mission than nearly every character in 4 GOD DAMN.

Sorry, just... wow. Huge surprise coming out of that. Should have expected some story after AC5, but AC3's story is already proving to be much better (less hippie peacenik fighter pilots--where the hell did they come up with that one?)

I have seen this before, but that was a modding issue. This is 100% vanilla DF.

EDIT: Reinstalled the very same copy I downloaded in the first place and that somehow worked. Closing topic now.

It's a huuuge franchise, spanning more video games than I know to mention, at least one mod for Half-Life, and at least one mod for that mod for Half-life, and hell, I've played a mod for that mod for that mod for half-life, so clearly people enjoy it quite a lot.

Talk about the manga, the anime, the filler, Z, GT, AF*, Multiverse, everything, it's all good.

*(Still confused about this; the modmodmod I mentioned above was an AF mod for the ECX mod for the Earth's Special Forces mod for Half-Life; this is all I've seen. It was an April Fools joke, but then other people made fanfictions n' crap? The mod had an OC that nobody played as and, while fighting against a Super Saiyan 7 is kind of fun, the design is weird)
