DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / My monarch came before I had 140 dwarves.
« on: July 12, 2011, 11:54:04 pm »
I had less than 40, in fact. I modded the game so that candy was more common than microcline (I made it a layer stone in all possible layers and also made it cluster like Microcline everywhere), so I got the monarch early. The wiki doesn't mention this, and the message on arrival was "The queen Tosid Kedurist has arrived, dressed as a peasant!"

Screenshot of the offending monarch: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13790475/Monarch.png

I had built of bridge out of raw adamantine, so I met the road requirement, and the raw adamantine smoothed walls counted for architecture, but I had never made an offering and, as said in the title, I had less than 140 dwarves.

I didn't have a chance to get them off the river before it melted. Also, it started pouring like cats and dogs IRL the instant the river melted O_o

No drizzle beforehand, just started pouring out there.

This fort has it all. Waterfall generator, happiness all around, two FBs killed, one siege averted singlehandedly by a dwarf.

Then came the third forgotten beast.

I laughed it off at first. "Vomit? Haha! That's a liquid! It'll go down easy!"

My best fighter, Sigun Fencesounds the Rough Neutrality of Subtlety, was the only one caught in its vapors. It was then that I learned that it would not go down without taking someone with it.

Oddly enough, Sigun isn't showing any sign of damage on the w screen when viewing; only when viewing with Z does all this show up.

The real question is, is my dwarf done for, is there anything that can be done? That's full-body necrosis there, combined with swelling. so I don't think it'll go so well :( This is my first syndrome FB, so it's new to me.

Note that the miasma listed with the things that have affected her mood is from her; also note that I didn't worry until I saw that miasma.

This is the worst that I could have feared D:

While that can certainly happen without genesis, genesis adds the psychiatrist noble, so... hehe.

Also, I didn't know you could find old dwarves in your fort right after abandon.

I can just imagine him talking to, say, a legendary engraver who just had a masterpiece defaced.

"Ah don't know what to do, Domas! The miners destroyed so many of my great works just to build new bedrooms!"

"Hmm... I suggest revenge."

"What?"

"Give yourself to revenge. Revenge for the revenge god!"

"Yes... Yes, Domas, I think you're right! Revenge! This is perfect!"

Urist Stonechipped, Engraver has gone berserk!

If a previous adventurer is the enemy of a certain civilization, but the civilizations are not enemies of each other, AND you are a member of that civilization you can walk through a town where the previous adventurer retired peacefully until you enter the house that particular adventurer lives in, wherein that adventurer will do the standard "list kills" intro and try to kill you while everyone just watches.

Anything else you've personally discovered in adventurer mode, through research or otherwise?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Favorite nobles?
« on: June 22, 2011, 02:21:47 am »
Yes, I know that most people probably don't like nobles (at all), but this topic is about those special nobles who either do something amazing or are actually agreeable when it comes to demands. While a rare sight (I've had one! Ever!), this topic is here to celebrate these nobles for not being a waste of good magma.

My current noble likes Silver, Alpaca Wool, and Cages. My most common ore is Galena, I get all my wool from alpacas, and... well, cages are agreeable ;). His only mandates have been to make cages and banning the export of coins.

I dropped a yak into a volcano, and the message came up, as it had seen some on the way down. It was pretty funny :P

Oh jeez, if the yak could see in, I would have released HFS before I even got a chance to mine :O

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Uh, I just got an artifact, and...
« on: May 22, 2011, 04:13:37 pm »
It's slightly unusual O_o, yes, I've seen this when recreating Planepacked's glitch, but this one I didn't glitch to get...

(maybe putting my dwarves on SPEED:0 did it? I'm doing that to make a fortress that would be fun to adventure in :p)

My old dwarves were living there. I thought "cool", but it wasn't unusual. I went into another house to see if I can find the beardless jellyfish who stole the adamantine gear I was going to take from my old fortress, only to find that a multitude of dwarves were fighting a clown! I helped, but I found that the clown had all of its limbs removed already; being made of vomit, it was difficult to kill. A random dwarf killed it. The point is, what are the chances of showing up in a town as a clown is attacking? He didn't have a name until he killed 3 of my old dwarfs, too.

DF General Discussion / The titling system: How does it work?
« on: May 16, 2011, 05:02:47 pm »
I used to think the titling system was completely random, but now I have an adventurer with the full name and title "Putnam Musicaldabbles the Frosty Dragon of Coldness". That title sure does have a theme to it: cold. Did I somehow gain a sphere of influence over something, or is it just a badass coincidence?
