DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: "Husk"?
« on: November 14, 2012, 06:12:51 pm »
I can verify that you can get husked. When the Evil Expansion was released, one of my first experiences with the fog was as an adventurer who had stepped into a miasma looking cloud and became invincible!

Got bored and retired that guy, or just suicided him, I think all the civs were insta enemies to me at that point. I believe everyone attacked me on sight and I was unable to use any services and I did not spread the plague, which means I swam through a river or something first, so probably husked a few fish. LOL damn carps...

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Money
« on: February 21, 2012, 12:57:28 am »
I agree. We as richy rich adventurers need something to spend our money on... can someone say high-pressure magma cannon? lol jk. but on a more serious note. i do like the idea of a blacksmith to upgrade the quality of equipment as well as maybe the ability to lower the weight of an item, to add weapon chains (to stop from being disarmed or dropping your weapon), spikes to shields and armor to do damage when you charge or shield   bash. edit: also the ability to have a specific weapon forged that produces a quality item similar to fortress mode. extra money for decorations (mats could be supplied or bought)

also i've always liked the idea of player housing. maybe it'd be cool to purchase property in a town and perhaps buy the land and have a house built on it or purchase pre-existing housing (put those abandoned houses and furniture shops to use) and now with the new interactions system we could place furniture in our purchased homes. days of dfhacking or embark - dig - abandon adventure hideouts begon!

The forum is not twitter.

brilliant observation and inefficient. How does this relate to the posts?

Top marks for noting that this forum is not twitter, 10 points, but -10 for a totally irrelevant statement for a total of 0 points for you. Nice try. Feel free to actually contribute in the future.

(OT) Win.

I generally prefer marksdwarves for old fashioned elf killing but as this is Dwarf Fortress, and the objective is to create the most hardcore, dwarf - slave labor intensive contraption of mass murder possible. This leaves me with only one viable suggestion. Use Dwarf pressure to shoot magma out of the top of your towers with such an intensity as to provide a magma-like rain over your enemies. They will get a positive thought for the mist you provided them, albeit they will get a negative thought for melting to death. This in turn will give you a triumphant thought and thats the most important, now isnt it?

I'm sorry if this is a newb questions. I have been playing Genesis since I first started playing Dwarf Fortress. After I got a handle on the game I went straight for the mods and Genesis far surpasses any expectation I could have had. I enjoy this mod greatly.

From my experiance with this mod though I have noticed a lack in documentation as I've been playing. I have seen recently that its all been updated and the correct recipe lists have been added. With the modloader updated I have noticed a new material. Meteoric. I dont know if its only on my game but its not called Meteoric Steel, or Meteoric iron, it is just meteoric. So this leads to the question of where does this material fit in the grand scheme of things? Is this a superior blunt weapon material or a sharp material? Is it harder then iron? then steel? Most games i've seen it it is Meteoric Steel. I have looked in the documentation as well as the genesis wiki, I may just be blind, deaf, dumb and/or stupid but I cannot find any info on this material whatsoever. The only place I haven't looked is the raws and I must be honest, I have a splitting headache and looking at all that info is going to drive me into insanity.

any help on this topic would be appreciated.

Thanks again Deon for the wonderful mod. Also played your mod on Cataclysm until i became outdated. You do fine work sir.

Life Advice / Latin Translation
« on: January 27, 2012, 07:26:46 pm »
So I know this is very weird to post on a forum but I believe my girlfriend is cheating on me due to certain encoded messages she sends to her ex boyfriend and specifically tells me not to translate.

If anyone is good at latin or can help me translate this (as google translate returns an unintelligible result)

Nihil ei novi Daniel, sic subsisto is teneo quam parum dicere.

I'd appreciate it. She made a big fuss about it and deleted it shortly after my noticing it. There are many other signs but some hard evidence could really help me put this mess to rest.

any help is appreciated, thank you.

Edit: I went onto a Latin Dictionary and tried to look at the words and their meanings to piece something together...

Which is the reason im so suspicious that its evidence I got

"Daniel, he knows nothing of our partnership, so stop advancing"

Nihil is nothing, param is partnership or courtship, Novi means nothing...

Idk I think im just being paranoid and thats how I got my translation but a latin buff would be of much help right about now.

This is the only one shes posted in a public place and I stumbled upon it. Facebook, being the cause of all lifes problems is the source.

She had had a status update, and I had left a very sweet comment onto it explaining how we're more then just together, we are friends and partners. She deleted it shortly after due to his dissapproval

She just recently moved in with me from where her ex boyfriend lives. He happens to be her fathers girlfriends son, so they have lived together for the past two years and dated in secret for 1 of them.

The first week she was with me she spoke to him on the phone every night, texts him all the time, goes home and spends the night under the guise of "im spending time with my parents" when they are out at the bar on saturday. I dont know, a lot of things just dont add up and in its a volatile situation to start with from my point of view.

Just for future notice. In situations of complete and utter bizarre occurrences such as this one. POST THE SAVE!

I personally don't care what terms people do or don't use for various spoilers; that said if people really care about keeping things unspoiled for newbies they'd stop bringing them up ('spoiler code' or otherwise) in threads that are completely unrelated to them.  This thread was about which was better, masterwork iron or steel, it had nothing to do with 'cotton candy' at all.  Even as its moved on to discussing metals and weapons/armor more generally its still doesn't need to be mentioned, anybody who knows about 'cotton candy' probably already knows about its properties or at least knows where to look if they are curious.

I cannot help but roll my eyes when people who have no problem bringing up the various code terms every other post, regardless of whether its relevant at all or not, get up in arms about people using the real terms for fear of them "spoiling it for the newbies!"

As for the OP, all the information has been answered very well by people more knowledgeable then myself.

As it comes to newbies, it is safer to stay off the boards, or at least be very careful about what threads you read, if you don't want to have bits spoiled for you (this is true of games, movies, books, etc).  However given how.. Complex.. Dwarf Fortress can be for a new player I doubt that is a realistic option so the best would be not mentioning things one feels to be 'spoilers' without cause.

Lastly.. Really.. How big a spoiler are those two things these days? I mean back when I started in 40d it was very rare to find even magma, much less 'cotton candy' and other such things below.  It was very uncommon, so having it be a mysterious spoiler can be good.  These days though? If I embark just about anywhere and dig down far enough before long I'll hit the magma sea, get that message about praising miners, and if I decide to go after that miner praisable stuff odds are I'll quickly learn about the last bits.  Its so common these days I'm not even sure it deserves to be called a secret anymore.

Agreed. Completely. +1 for you sir.

Edit: Double Agree with you as well Kard.

i never understood why cotton candy and clowns are spoilers in the first place.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this before?

I was "T"raveling when I was suddenly ambushed by a group of orcs (probably because I just got done destroying one of their hamlets and looting their capital in the night), I attacked the commander immediately, missed, then he died of old age. Seriously. I doubt that even counts as a kill for me. Damn you Death! Stealing my FAME!

I finally can scratch off giant cave spider off my list of creatures for my monster army.
Though before that I had a intern accident where most of my dwarves where hit with grand cross and now pretty much walking rotting lepers.
Among the list of captured creatures where a mother and sonedit:daughter minotaurs sadly the first siege killed off the night creatures and leaving me with 2 orphan children
one who inside and another named Nunòre who just spends his days standing miles away from the fort in the cold.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It's stuff like this that gets me, shame too they all died due to accidental cross fire literally an intern burst into flames catching every one on fire the night creatures warriors all died.
since capturing lair monsters are child's play I wonder how hard can it be to grab a royal princess from a elven civ or grab the leading general of the idiots who siege me.
Wrong thread.
Lolz, I read that and was like watz. Party foul. Now go stand over by the X on the ground. Little Closer. Little Closer. Ok. FIRE TEH MAGMA CANNONZ!

Edit: Clavus Born of Blood is dead. He jumped into a 1 z-level pit and his head took the full force of the blow. Shattering the skull and piercing the brain with bone. Poor epic Jaguar slayer.

I gotta say, it seems pretty common down here in florida that many people own VERY LARGE GUNS! I know a few people with ak's (simi and one guy has an auto!), at least two guys with m4, one with a bushmaster, countless with shotguns a highpower pistols. I Tend to think that finding an ak in a basement (IF ONLY RARLY) is a quite natural occurance. I find it super rare that a gun is in my starting location. One time i found a Taurus pro with 50 rounds sitting on the bed next to me, but other then that usually have a hard time just finding a backpack to keep stuff in.
