You can get these neat dwarf buttons if you donate to Toady! I don't know the specifics, but now we have an official way to identify other people who play DF if we all wear a button like that (or a DF shirt, or even a home-made button) on one day. So, here's the idea:
- Pick one day where every member of the forum is obligated to wear something obviously recognizable as a DF piece of kit.
- Preferably this is a day where everyone will be walking around in their city if they live in a city, so we have maximum spread.
- See if anyone meets each other and then gossip about it on the forums (e.g. omg i met goombageek he is teh sexiest person evar).

It's on August 8, 2013, the 6th anniversary of DF. Bring a friend! (Grow out your beard if you've got one!)

Okay, I was right about the pyrite-refining bacteria! They're used as a source of pure sulphur, not iron, but that's pretty cool (the wikipedia article is called bioleaching, there's a lot more about it but it's all in journals that don't explain how it works overall).

And, why do you keep saying "homos"? I don't think that's very nice, not sure though (mostly I've heard it used like "damn homos get off my lawn").

If gays marry, then they probably will not choose to have children, speaking linearly in the hard coded system for marriage. In the end, civilization may die off unless we give those Dwarves pride in their legacy. This is all too damn complex for DF to handle I would think. I am greatly anticipating the next development.

This is bizarre. So, ~5% of the population won't have children, so society will die off, so we need to implement personalities so they can "choose to not have children"?? And it's too complex? What??

My constituency is getting double-deckers this fall and I ride a commuter bus from a satellite town outside the city I go to school in, so at the stop I'll get to breeze past all the chumps waiting for the much lamer normal city transit with even more style than usual.
