This i have tried.
Be careful, the magma in the pipe need to go somewhere when that amount of stone falls down, burned 4 miners to death and surounded the entire area aroun the magma pipe with magma.

Isn't there an editor one could use just for the sake of it, to turn solid built area into stone, I mean if you have actually built the tower that wouldn't be much of a cheat.

Just tried the theory with a built stone tower and a volcano. It deconstructed instantly.

Yes i posted a question simular to this before, if the same would be true for built walls. But i think they deconstruct as the fall.

I rather have the "stack of bones" build material, that can be used for anything wood is being used for now (and some of the stone stuff).  ;)

I finaly made it so far in my fort that i got a goblin siege.
Lost 9 good dwarves in the process, and 5 more injured.

Still it was a awsome battle and blood everywhere. The fight occured in my main 5 tile wide corridors with all my dwarves battle ready and waiting inside the doors for the goblins to enter.

My next task is to improve the defence of the Fortress placeing more year around X-Bow dwarves behind fortifications looking out.

efter a large dig 4 of my miners got rock in their head and died. This resulted in the mayor having a tantrum, destroying the bridge to the food chamber. Dwarves quickly started to starve, and with hunger came more anger and violence. During this hard time I got two ambushes from large goblin parties. Assembling the few dwarves I had, I drove them off, sadly the majority of my army got criticaly hurt, with no food, all working men hurt, there where only two dwarves left fit to work, one miner and a female fish cleaner, the miner snaped, took his pick axe and killed all the hurt dwarves. During this time the fish cleaner gave birth to a boy. The Miner, done with his task started to hunt the Fish Cleaner, over bridges, trough stairs, this ended on top of the highest ledge in the town. Where no where left to run, the miner killed the fish cleaner and her baby. Leaving him alone in his new home of death and decay.

I would suggest you carve out or build a giant stone heart in the middle instead.  ;)

To the ruin around fortress idea.

Didn't toady mention that you can start in a town, not sured if he "fixed" that or not. If you can, why not do that, dig your self down, build your fort, build a army and return outside to kill everyone + destory the city. Automatic ruins.  ;)

I have once stoped a flood by hacking loose a piece of stone from a cliff above and let if fall into the channel. Can the same thing be done with built wall? I think i remember somewhere that they turn back to their core material if they fall?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: When does the action start?
« on: May 16, 2008, 09:56:00 am »
I haven't so far lived passed the 5:th year, thats when i start getting hit with constant goblin ambushs. I think i hade 10-15 in a row.

It's easy to survive for a while but really hard to do a optimised fortress.
But that might be becouse I have played on a gimp computer and the only way to make progress in the game is to do something else for a while. 5-10 fps.
