do we get quadruple eye lasers?

we could behead a shopkeeper and then use his head to kill enemies, sort of like a capitalistic medusa

Clearly, we must uproot a shopkeeper, (I suggest carrying his floor tile like a litter, to avoid potential eye laser retribution) and bring him to the Dark Cathedral, where we will fuse him with Slog/Cool Crab. If it works anything like SMT/Persona fusion, the resulting creature can be made to inherit a few abilities from its predecessors, so we can get the eyebrow trick and lasers on our new minion!

"Another body for the morgue? Sure, we've got plenty of space! Just put him anywhere... No, I don't know why we've got individual cat teeth sitting on every available slab. Just brush it aside, or heck, just dump the body on top of it! It's not like the spot's reserved for the stupid things!"

A drill is a really impractical weapon.

*stares meaningfully at Bartering ram*

Your point?

Seriously, I'm not arguing for or against the drill. (I was mostly joking, since Ciro making melee weapons costs Max HP, which she is more likely to need if she engages in melee combat.) But this is a choose-your-own adventure/dungeon-crawler RPG. It has shown a lot of influence from existing video games, anime, etc., many of which feature impractical weaponry as a stylistic rule, and often runs off of RPG logic instead of physics. I think it's safe to assume a weapon's effectiveness isn't going to rely on anything but what the stats in its menu look like. And that's going to be based on either our die roll or FFS' whim.

Every time someone says "Don't attempt those crazy shenanigans/doing something stylistically awesome, it's stupid and'll never work!" I sit and stare at the screen for a minute and go "Have you been reading the same thread I have? The author even gave us a bonus to attempts to exploit loopholes and crazy nonsense that tries to bypass the rules!"

It's a Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann fanfic.  The real story starts after we bust out of underground.

So what you're saying is: Ciro: Bloodshape drill?

Well, I've fallen so far behind that I have no idea what the hell is happening. So I'm glad that Al apparently does.

Do the Al thing!

Are you using Masterwork? There's an issue with the newest version not disabling digging invaders properly which can lead to crashing. It's easy to fix by removing/disabling all the digginginvader stuff in the dfhack setup.

Nope, this is just Vanilla DF.

I ended up reclaiming that fort. The new group put their wagon right at the top of the slope, which was nice. Looking around the map, I noticed that the rivers feeding into the lake were still frozen, but didn't think anything of it until I noticed my fisherdwarf was hunting for vermin. He'd managed to run over the ice onto a tiny triangular piece of land, start fishing, and the ice thawed behind him. I had to erect an emergency bridge to rescue him.

Furthermore, I've lost two more dwarves to insta-thaw drowning since then: Because the lake thaws instantly when Spring hits, I get absolutely no warning that I can use to pull my dwarves into burrows to get them off the ice. This fort's going to be interesting...

So I finally gave up on my previous fort due to it crashing. Something involving having memory problems with stealthed goblins or something, I suspect.

Time to start a new fort!

Hey, this spot looks nice! Temperate climate, a freshwater lake for emergency water, some mountains for stone, some forests for wood...

A section of the cavern has collapsed? That sounds ominous. Well, lets go back up to the map... Is that ice? Guess winter lasts late here. Oh dammit! The dwarves parked their wagon on the lake, three squares away from a small peninsula that is the only path up the forbidding cliff next to them! Okay, so I'll have to demolish the wagon and set up stockpiles. I can do this. I'll just set it up while paused, and hope my dwarves can get enough done before the Spring thaw hits.

All right, that should work! Now, *unpause!*

Ha ha, you of course know exactly where this is going...

.001 seconds later, three founders are dead, (two started on land, and two were decent swimmers.) my pick and axe are underwater, as are all my supplies and building materials, all the vegetation is on the other side of the lake where no dwarves can reach it, and there is absolutely no way I can think of to salvage this situation.

Oh, what a difference three squares makes!

So, about this 'Auntie' character from the letter... I have a feeling she might

433unfitflureditoutfourthsiblingstheweaponshehastoauntiewillgiveyouacookie

give us a cookie. I'm, uh, not sure whether it'd be a good cookie.

Oh, and I suggest while we're here we acquire and experiment with Reagents/Essences from the Craft Shop. We have a Skill Tree, and we should exploit the hell out of use it. Or... I would say that, except that I guess we blew all our cash on fusion scrolls or something since I last checked. Maybe we should start selling stuff. Luckily, we also apparently have more cash in storage.

Also, remember Al's letter? "Find out what Chief's hiding from us and burn him at the stake if I'm right about it." Since we didn't do that yet, maybe we should ask Al about his suspicions. Maybe Chief's storing the soul bindings we need for the Binding and Essence quest?

Oh, and also, while we're here, I'd like to go back to that scarecrow-statue thing, y'know the one that said

TMNS120

...and see if it says anything different now. (My guess was it was a countdown, "T-MiNuS 120" so this would confirm or shoot down that idea.)

This may be the worst homestuck news you'll ever hear.

Note that there can only ever be one in stock.

Managed to save a game of Hoistedlens - Whatever is causing the crashes appears to be happening at some point mid-season. Still haven't figured it out, though.

So, knowing that the file wasn't actually corrupt, I copied the folder, abandoned the fort in the copy, and checked my legends for the heck of it. Unrelated to my fort, but there is a zombie dragon running around out there somewhere.  :o

I didn't know that was a thing the history generator could do...

Disregard, wrong thread.

Well, as long as nobody tries fusing the bartering ram to the dead Burro in the hopes of making an omni-range Burro-ing ram...

Uh...

Cut off the visible bits of the Burro and loot them.  Toss one on the trap in from of the east door to trigger it.

If that doesn't work (or more accurately, if it works in a way that makes this next bit unnecessary/not-suicide,) then Windirection everyone through the door.

Of course he has eye lasers! That eyebrow gambit ain't just for haggling bonuses, y'know! It's secret training for the eye laser muscles most people let grow weak and unused!

Also, he's an attackable shopkeeper in a video game-inspired dungeon. Those guys are always firing lasers and changing your name to 'THIEF' or shooting fireballs from their flanking bonfires or whatever.

Uh, anyways, gather glass shards for use in Skill Tree.

And to repeat my previous post, not only does Levitation fit the loophole monk mentioned, but we know it works, because we have used it on this level.

Right here. (Thank monk for the index (again)!)

*Sigh* Hoistedlens may be at a premature end - the game has crashed during saving every time the last three attempts, so I've been replaying the same season over and over. I'm not even sure I can even abandon at this point.
