Also pretty sure that's only booze. Variety only helps to get more dwarves something they like - the one that likes plump helmets would have no problems with a plump helmet only diet. However farming plump helmets and a second crop for booze is incredibly boring...I always strive to get a nice selection of decent food...above ground, below ground, processed plants, meat, cheese, eggs...

Too much American-Centric ideology here.  The same mindset that says "Why would anyone eat goat cheese?  Cows produce perfectly good cheese!" 

Sorry, but what? Goat cheese is tasty, offal is glorified refuse...no comparsion at all. And as far as I know from the people that went to the USA from here the average American diet is really substandard anyway...

Basically if you put any sorts of animals too close to each other, others, dwarves, whatever they get understandably pissy and start to lash out. Make a pasture somewhere where enough room is, assign this dog to there. Or build a restraint at the entrance and make this to a GuardDog.

There was a thread where the !!science!! had been done. You need to have a certain size to be able to harvest meat from an animal, up to this size it's skulls only. Remember that A: Juveniles give less/nothing and B: Animals even of a single species vary I think up to around 30% in size.
