Consider chickens. Embark with one male and 5 females, build a nestbox and watch the eggs flow. Wall off a second nestbox, build a door in front of it and lock it when a hen claims it to get young chicks. You need to cook those, but that's a good habit anyway.

Though there's nothing wrong with plump helmets and you need a farmplot for booze. Remember to grow f.ex. pig tails as well, as dwarves need some booze variety.

Quick, who would win in a fight: Adam Smith or Karl Marx?

Stupid question.

 vs.

Karl Marx strikes Adam Smith with the *Beard* jamming the skull through the brain!

I ran a test and RoF seemed to be the same...sure they may be slower, but crossbowdwarves shouln't run around anyway!

Think of it as this:

Lighter armor DOES INCREASE RoF? Can anyone confirm this? If it is true, I finally have a justification to don't equip my bow- and crossbowdorfs with full plate.

Viruses occur naturally, therefore that is evolution rather than eugenics. If humans cull a species specifically in order to achieve a future creature it's eugenics. Selection by naturally occurring phenomenon/=selection due to intent.

You're talking as if intelligent species weren't a part of nature. Anyway, back from the nitpicking about natural or not natural (sounds elfy to me anyway), more to whether we can select our dwarves for certain traits. And "100 years lifespan" doesn't sound as enough to discourage Dwarven Breeding. You could also do it with chickens or somethings, less years between clutches and many young.

I don't care whether it makes a huge difference, studding no-quality doors with aluminium? REALLY? Sorry, were dwarves. We do masterwork.

And Cabbagetroll has been proven wrong by the equally valid answer of Jetriot.

Selection = Selection. The end result is the same.

By the way, there are examples of extremly quick evolution even by so called "natural" means. A virus can cull your population strongly until only resistant individuals are left...

No. Selection is a part of evolution and "throw all the small ones into a magma chute" is a form of selection. They also could die for example if badgers would be able to jump at the throats of small dwarves yet be unable to reach the throats of taller ones. Though dwarves live way past 100 years, they are able to give birth to children at age 12 IIRC so if your process of selection is strict enough you're probably going to see significant results in generation 3 or so.

That explanation is just ridiculous on so many levels. Unless you play each for for about 500 years breeding won't have a significant effect on genetics.

Sure it does. If you shoot anyone who's small you don't need too many generations to reduce the number of small dwarves significantly, because, you know, they've been shot and can't have any small children. Evolution is on average slow, yes, but it can be quite fast if the right selection pressure is applied.

I've never known stop lights to be complicated O.o  Red means No.

There was a time in China I think where the communist red was supposed to mean "go" and green "stop"

After a lot of Fun, including !!Fun!!, this was reversed.

Microcline and orthoclase at least have bright colors. Jet is just dark grey.

Do we build a Dwarf Fortress or a LSD-Fortress? Dark grey is our color of choice!
