If you gave them the pet tag, you could probably breed friendly goblin babies.

OOC: What the fuck is Hikari talking about? King Erik ascended peacefully to the throne. No villages burned, there were no battles fought. He was simply the son of the last king.

Also, that works for me Iituem :P
Can I get a quick rundown of what defensive bonuses the rebels have? What bonuses, if any, I might have if I initiate the attack?

The King watched the rebel turn tail and run, and couldn't help but let out a laugh. "Very well then! Hide behind your walls, fool! Use the innocent as your shield, but know that you will pay for your crimes against the people of Elbreth and the Crown!" he shouted after the rebel before casually turning to return to his men.

The rebels have +1 from the village wall, +2 from the terrain and 2 regiments infantry (for a total bonus of +5).  If you attack, you will have a bonus equal to the size of your considerable army.

I don't suppose there are any supplies with which we could build siege weaponry?

And since the supply train guard isn't actually doing anything of worth, I guess I'll bring them up to Eelspine with us. They can arrive whenever you say they do, but that should bring the number of regiments in these mountains up to 8. Hehe...

Kain's runner would no doubt return with an OK to drafting those plans, as well as a request for Kain to come to the King's tent to discuss strategy as soon as he is able.

New version up!

v1.1
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I don't think I'll be adding in steel wood, since that's a bit too powerful in my opinion. Feel free to add it if you want though, it shouldn't be too difficult.

They can't.  Both sides will be taking maintenance checks the longer you're out there, because not only are you also on a barren mountainside, you have a lot more men than they do.

Unless adwarf wants to take an action, the reinforcements from Elbreth arrive (in which case they arrive after whatever action he takes).

So...why did I spend 4 ducats on setting up supply trains and two regiments to guard them?

You could make the tending give you a different type of wood entirely.
Though it wouldn't make sense, it could stop multiplying copperwood.
That actually might work. A generic "grove wood" with all the qualities of, say, Oak.

The King raised a hand to silence Sir Taric before he could retaliate once more, and then glanced briefly to the Grand Master who also stood by his side. Turning his gaze back to the dog before him, it was all he could do not to snarl, "The Bandits you chose to side with were harming the citizens of my land, the simple sheepherders who you claim to protect. The lands you wished to claim were the Lands of Elbreth. You and your soldiers are no better criminals, and more lowly than the worms crawling beneath our feet." His eyes swept over the two that had come to parley, and settled on the knight. "You side with Bandits, Sir? Have you no honor? Or perhaps you were not there when this cur chose to defend Targus the Raper when my Good General sought to bring justice to the land?" A bemused smile flickered over his face before he turned his attention back to the leader of the rebels, "I have given you and your men one final chance to surrender. Your soldiers, and the citizenry, will be spared for I am not beyond mercy. Should you continue to resist, all who fight shall burn."

He paused once more, studying the other man's face before continuing, "If you care for these people, as you say, then surrender now and spare their lives."

OOC:
Iituem, I'm still waiting for an answer as to how they can apparently hold out indefinitely despite the farming conditions on the mountain.

Also, "Targus the Raper" deserves the "Most Inventive Bandit Lord Name of the Year" Award, I think.

Kain Vadud II and his regiment will arrive during this meeting, you get to decide when.
General Kaguro's messenger is still en route and will likely not arrive till a little while after the meeting.

(2) Try as he might, Mahtan is unable to remember the ingredients he was using when the explosion took place. After a while, he's forced to settle with writing down the basic supplies and equipment needed by an alchemist and little else.

Terenos draws his blade and charges the bandits, his men quickly follow suit. (4+1). The bandits (6+1), however, are far more experienced than his wet-behind-the-ears soldiers. While the bandits are left in no fighting shape, his regiment is essentially wiped out. As he senses the battle turning, he attempts to make a break for it so as to save the documents. (1) Only to be knocked unconscious by a club to the back of the head just as he turns to run. Terenos wakes up sometime later bound and gagged in a small hut with what remains of his regiment.

Drua was already in Miring lands when Miring forces intercepted her, it is a Miring noble she is speaking to now. (5) Her request for shelter is granted. As she and her regiment are escorted back to the Noble's estate, he explains that he is a second cousin of the current King. He also insists that she remain at his estate for the month, as there is currently a festival taking place at the capital and the roads will be dangerous.

It's not a total conversion. You can unpack the files directly alongside your vanilla game (and have two elf civs) or replace the elf civ in vanilla with this one. All it really does is add a new race with unique buildings to play as in fortress mode.

Thanks for the heads-up on those two issues, guys. I'm not sure how I'll go about preventing copper wood from being multiplied, any suggestions to that effect would be appreciated. At the moment I'm considering shenanigans with reaction classes.

IIRC hammerheads might be useful if you're facing an invasion of bronze colossi or something.

DF Modding / Elf Retreat! (v1.2)

Frolic through the trees! Dance with pixies! Befriend wild animals! Slaughter mortals and devour their flesh to maintain your youth! Help raise saplings into full grown trees! All this and more in Elf Retreat!

What is this?
Elf Retreat is exactly what it sounds. It's Dwarf Fortress, but you play as elves. And you can play them anywhere you want, because they've developed the means of bringing a forest with them wherever they go. While not Hardmode in the same way that Kobold Camp is, Elf Retreat is still a bit more difficult than standard Dwarf Fortress. Your elves do not have access to metal of any kind, though they are able to alter wood into a rough approximation of copper. Nor are they able to build lethal traps. Truly, your only line of defense is the myriad of animals you might be able to trap, and your swords, spears, and arrows.

Why would you ever do this?
Because I'm a big fan of playing adventure mode and fortress mode in tandem. By this, I mean using utilities like DFusion to switch between adventure mode and fortress mode almost at a whim. A while ago, I was playing an elven adventurer and thought "Wait, wouldn't it be cool if I could start a fort for every race?" and so I started with Elf Retreat first. Mostly because I saw the greatest ability to add its own "flavor" to the mod. While this is nowhere near complete, I hope that the flavor in question shines through.

Expect very frequent updates for at least a little while. Once I'm happy with it, things will no doubt slow down a lot.
