DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Anyone else facepalm at bogeymen?
« on: July 22, 2011, 06:24:33 pm »
I have to agree that this feature has not added to the enjoyment of Adventure Mode for me. It's not like the wilderness was benign before; now it's unsurvivable without companions.

Do you wonder why most of the heroes in books have companions? This is one of the reasons why.  ;)

Only thing is, I don't think they are finite in number. I've killed swarms of them...Endless grey masses...

What about a pet rock?

Every dwarf just loves a pet rock!

Rock, Golems!

(P.S. To all those who are suffering from brewing problems, try giving other dwarves that labor, under farming. The brewing skill only affects the speed in which its brewed, not how many drinks. That is up to the Grower (if you brew home-grown plants) since 1 brew-able plant = 5 drink.)

But doesn't it affect the 'secret' quality of the drink?

I think it does but its better than having no drinks at all. The best drink I saw one of my dwarves have gave him "had a truly decadent drink lately."

And don't drinks have a fixed value in addition to the secret quality?

Dear Urist McMelancholy

You are sad, I did nothing to help you get your materials for your unique artifact.

That I apologize for, you have my deepest apologies. I know that I cannot make up for it in any way but to make a statue out of you.

My only problem is that I think you need more drink, by that I mean some nice Cave Rum. You love those right?

I stated that because you also need to think about other dwarves in the fort, you were too thirsty and decided to drink water from the well. Not only that but you decided you wanted more and rode the bucket into the well.

Now our only water supply is full of your remembrance.

I guess karma is happening all over again.

Sincerely yours,
The Mourning Overseer

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Elves are Greedy Bastards

(Alas, I can never understand why many people here hate elves for some reason. Yes I know they are cannibals in battle but not all are. And global warming/flooding isn't enacted in-game yet so I can understand the need for forest clearing.
I'm new to this thing. Someone please explain in detail.)
They make short jokes. They are the manifestation of the qualities dwarves hate. More importantly, the unicorns and horses they ride are very tasty.
[/quote]

Now I see, what I don't see are the short jokes. They are about the same size as dwarves, humans are larger (forgive me if I fail to see any humor at all.)

And if they fight you, shouldn't they be nasty?

Anyway back on topic. If you want aboveground plants, the elves are the ones to look for. Sadly, most of those are already brewed into drink. You may get about 1~3 bags of seeds though and some nice plants to get seeds out of.

32990
;)    Try making an adventurer in the first ~50 years. Tell us how bad it is, what is the seed by the way, I really want to try it out.

32991
Any titan/megabeast with the most kills? Anyone still alive that is notable at all? Surely there must be that one survivor besting the odds out there.

^ You see artwork based on a Mega-Duck. It is encircled with dried blood and menaces with spikes of fear.

I just had my elven adventurer kill all of the megabeasts/semi-beasts out there. I threw the world into a Golden Age. I fought off a Giant Cave Spider and lived unscathed...

My only regret?

Listening to my Ego. No single person can conquer HFS... I tripped on a pebble and fell through a hole , managed to splatter myself all over those clowns. Guess they won't look good anymore, well not as good as they look now.

Maybe Morul can though as well as those in the DF Legends but I'm just rambling, onto the next story!

Edit: I really did splat myself. Cursed images, thinking it isnt open air...

Thanks for the quick reply, seconds after mine.

Anyone know where to download the latest version? I will miss fighting wolfies but I'd love to see the serpents in action.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: bizarre survival

AFAIK hearts don't actually do anything other than contain major arteries, so its quite possible to survive a broken heart

Unless it is pierced though. And is this literal or figuratively meant?  :P

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: "Large for a dwarf"
« on: July 22, 2011, 06:32:13 am »
How do you make sure a dwarf is larger or smaller than the normal size, anyway?

In their description generally. It states if the creature is smaller/bigger, if none of that then it is assumed to be average size. Someone with more exact knowledge on this, please post  :) I heard there was a numerical equivalent in the Raws that would help?

32997
You...experiment on other nearly useless dwarves?! :(

I think its not the Elves fault for being very happy about it.

You should trade in portions. 50-100% profit works for about 4-7 trades. Easy way to ecstatic.

In vanilla DF, you get nice loads of cloth from the elves, as well as food, overland drink and wooden stuff.

And I think there is a bug running about that says "seizing" goods have no repercussions of the civilization you just stole from. Someone needs to confirm this.

TomiTapio, on thing that I was just wondering about, is obsidian meant to be found naturaly in stone layers? I found it a mere 5 layers below the ground, no where nere a volcano. Part way in to digging my dining hall I noticed several rough-hewn obsidian walls which I don't remember could exist unless water and lava mixed.

Sorry for answering in his stead. Yes, it is meant to be found naturally, in igneous extrusive layers, also a vanilla feature  :) .

And since I can't find it, does the latest Genesis link have werewolves/demons/Illithids? I heard that Illithids and werewolves were removed, why?

To the Liaison questions:

Yes, they get replaced. I lost mine to death, another to withdrawal of Baronship and the third is a new dwarf  :D .

The Conduct Meeting thing is low-priority In my opinion. The leader must be free from any job to meet. Either that or he is still hauling something.

Unanswered question: The sunlight vs cave adaptation.

My question: It possible to wall off the map and force-spawn enemies/traders in one point by using walls or do I have to use bridges?
