Are the infections on their nails or any other body parts? Nails don't ever heal without a raw change, blame your hospital only for the other wounds.

And even the UI is not half as bad as its reputation makes it sound.

At least when I started playing I somehow imagined far worse. It turned out to be learnable, i was surprised. To this day I haven't found a part of the interface that even gets close to what I was fearing. The pessimist's way of making dwarf fortress appear easy or something like that.

The jeweler's workshop is that mean thing with three impassable tiles in a row, forming a wall. Could he have been the one to construct the workshop and never left afterwards? Pay attention to the darker tiles when placing a workshop, those are the blocked ones and place your doorways accordingly.

Risk of being trapped by a newish player is just part of the jeweler's job description, they're used to it.

Neighboring tile works fine for me, dude is in the middle surrounded by his ladies, everyone in a 1x1 pasture.

That's autonestbox. It expects a pasture with one nestbox in it (top left corner) for each egglayer you have. It will then assign one egglayer to each such pasture and ensure no other animals are assigned to it.
Thanks cdombroski, that it was targetting freshly hatched chicks confused me. Might come in handy once I have more of them.

If dedicated doctors won't do the job, slap all healthcare jobs on everyone and hope someone gets around to it.

Where are the injured dwarves anyway? In a bed, passed out but not on a bed, limping after their bussiness?

Make soap. Even if no doc helps them, infected dwarves bathe a lot if they can.

Thats why I asked here instead of the dfhack thread, back in 2012 the pack was quite stubbornly insisting on its version of files over mine, probably because I tried the wrong files. But dfhack.init works, no more flicker on starting. Thanks!

I have a 3x3 room that is also a pasture with 3 boxes and three blue peafowl, m/f/f. Door locked, both females were breeding, the first clutch just hatched, the message arrived instead of the notification that the second clutch has hatched. Both clutches were 8 eggs. The first hen has already laid another, but that is just 6 eggs, so probably not related. I did not mess with any creature raws, just phoebus tiles applied by the starter pack and a few healing rates where needed, no modding, fresh install. These are the only egg layers I have a breeding pair of.

Which of the many init files can be used to add my choice of dfhack commands to run each time, without having it overwritten on launch?

(Totally unrelated, I love the "user generated content" folder and that it gets copied, such a nice and simple thing to ensure I keep my collection of never used bedroom layouts for all eternity.)

What would be the right place to report a website problem? Here?

I follow the main page rss feed and for a couple of weeks now, the time stamp is wrong. The news come in claiming to be from a month ago, as if the server clock were 30 days behind. I do get the latest articles in a timely manner, they just look old.  None of my other feeds shows this problem, so it seems to be on your end.

As a precaution, you could forbid a few seeds once you have enough for daily operations, if the normal stock gets destroyed again you still have some to rebuild.

In addition to the nice things already mentioned, my military is never off duty, they train year round, only taking a break from training to kill something. No loitering where they make friends, that only leads to problems later.

The thing about carried food that some here half remember is probably that they leave half eaten meals around. These are owned, so nobody else will put them away, nice source of miasma where you least expect it. Haven't had that happen in .40 yet, might be fixed or I'm lucky.
