DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Leather cloaks etc on steelclad dwarves
« on: October 27, 2012, 02:08:30 pm »
I've been having some difficulties in producing enough leather to equip my military dwarves with the recommended items, so I've been wondering if I could replace that with cloth without losing any noticeable advantage. Recommended being 6 leather cloaks and hoods, 2 mittens and 2 trousers. (the difficulty is that civilians grab all that leather when there's tons of perfectly fine clothing available, and leather is not easy to produce for 100 dwarves)

So I ran a few matches in arena mode. Steel vs steel+leather, steel+cloth vs steel+leather, copper+cloth vs copper+leather, steel battle axes. Frankly, I'm not sure if there's a difference...

What should I be testing here?

That's some pretty dangerous world, maurding corpses and goblins ahoy :D

Though I suppose it makes undead bacon industry easier to set up, don't it?
Wait, why is this a probablem?
Every one of those I's are necromancer towers.
Why is this a problem?

I think the problem is that there is lots of wasted space that could host a necromancer tower.

Holy crap he scratched the lion to death in 2 secs! Is that even possible?

Dwarves don't do manicure (that's for elves). After 100 years of growing nails, they can outscratch any lion with some training.

Fey moods lead to instand +5 legendary skill dwarves.

I don't think I ever got a +5, mine get to +1.

Okay, in my last fort I dug into a volcano straight in, and a good dwarf went missing that day.

Don't use a good dwarf for it. Problem solved  :D

Wow this is really nice  :o

Well some of the pets died, so I'm not sure if it's a viable strategy. Still, they don't die very fast, and it's much better than pasturing them outside.

I'm not sure if they died of hunger though, might have been old age.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Will a goblin siege ever leave?
« on: October 26, 2012, 12:14:33 pm »
Yeah if you wait for them to leave you might run into a situation where one siege leaves and another comes in a week.

Still, if you have enough dwarves left, you can focus on making cheap weapons and armor that will let you kill enough of them to force them to retreat early.

I caught a dwarf red-handed. It was a Planter!

Fortunately he wasn't feeding them seeds, just regular plants (bloated tubers in this case).

867
This keeps crashing when I use it, is that normal?

edit: It happens when I try to modify any default values.

Can you give me the exact error message upon crashing?

I think it solved itself, because I can't recreate it anymore. Sorry for the trouble.

Only if the dwarf is standing on a tile not right next to a fortification.

Yes, that's why it's inconvenient. It's affordable in a training room, not so much in live siege environment.

I've been finding that archer training isn't needed, killing invaders/wild creatures from a fortification at the entrance to my fort is enough.

Indeed, however it's nice for the attribute training. You also need a level 10+ marksdwarf to effectively shoot from fortifications, otherwise its's not very convenient.

Does mason get exp for creating rock blocks? He makes 4 from one stone, so he should get 2.5 times the experience from blocks rather than from table.

No, that gives 30 exp. It's not really a crafting job though, blocks are not regular items.
