This is gonna get good.

1427
1st Granite, 126

"We're here!" I screamed loudly.

"By the fates, we're here!"

"Yes, yes, we are. Now can you help stop the wagon before it rolls down the hill?" Conan said with a sharp tounge, and as usual, I listen. Conan is one to fear; his sharp tounge and deep voice can put even paralyze a cololosus.

"Katana, could you help me gather the animals?" I asked. Katana never really liked animals; she always prefered to kill them. There were a few time during the trip we had to stop her from killing our animals for food.

"Do I really have to?" he said with a moaning voice.

"Your part of the group, Katana. You gotta help somehow."

'Stupid Elf lover, making me do easy things...' he thought.
I'm not psychic or anything, but I'll just type what their thoughts might be while doing stuff.

I decided to go ahead of everyone else and look for a sutible spot to strike the earth at. After having found a good place, I ordered Nil, our miner, to dig it out.

After finding a suitible spot (And seeing Nil the miner's look on her eye when she said I was sniffing the ground and such) I finally yelled out "SNI-err, STRIKE THE EARTH!"
7th Granite, 126

"G, your not gonna believe this," Said Nil, who just came back with dirt all over her clothes.

"Gold?" I asked heartily.

"No. Soil."

"Soil? Really?" I said with a strange look on my face.

"What are we gonna do with it?" she asked.

"I don't know. Might as well just make a farm out it," I replied.

After hearing the news, I called a meeting with all of us to ask what we are going to do with the farmable earth.

"Ok everyone, listen up! The fates had shown that Nil just found some soil we could use to create a farm. Does anyone know what we brought with us to help grow some plants?"
No one answers.
"Does anyone know how to farm?"
"I do, G." Tun stood up and said.
Smiling, I looked down at Conan, who was still chiseling out our stocks.

"Ok. Conan, how many seeds do we have for each plant?"

Conan took out his stone tablet and began to read what we have. After a while of hearing him, I made my decision.

"Ok then, thank you Conan. Tun, could you please teach us about how to farm?"
"Yes, I may."
"Good. Nil, head back down there and dig out a room that we can use for farming."
"Aye aye!"

27th Granite, 126

While Tun was showing us the techniques of farming and Nil was mining, he came back running to me with an object in his hand.

"G!" He yelled, running and panting.
"Hey Nil, what you need?"
"Take a look at this!"
He reached out his his and showed me a small brown object. I could tell it was no stone, the edges weren't sharp enough.
"This is a gem," I said quietly.
"We've struck shiny gold."

1st Hematite, 126

We finally have our underground farms set up. We will use the seeds we have now and hopefully get seeds from a trade caravan soon.
Also, we have now offcially survived our first month with no deaths! Better say good job. First rounds' on me at the booze pile.

3rd of Hematite, 126

"G, can I ask for a request?" Katana walked over to me as I was talking to Conan about our plans for the future.
"Sure, Katana."
"When can I get my damn swords?" he said in a somewhat mean voice.
"Err..."
"You know, there's plenty of wild animals around here that I can use their bones for, and the meat off them? Heck, with those axe-fighting skills of yours, you can cut some of that meat right off my kills so we can have something else to eat other than those horrible-tasting plump helmets!"
By the fates, he's right; we gotta get his swords ready soon, I should try my hand at butchering, and plump helmets do taste horrible. I heard you could cook them, but I never tasted one cooked before.

13th Hematit, 126

Katana walked up to me furious, with scratches all over his arms.
"What the hell did you get into?" I asked.
"Oh, this is what happens when I fight without swords,"
He points over to the group of flying things that I could hardly see.
"Flying Obsidian blocks?" I pondered.
"Actually," Conan began, "Those are ravens. They are dangerous in packs, and have killed more dwarves than wolves have killed elves."
'Hmm, I wander how an elf tastes to a wolf,' I pondered about.

16th Hematite, 126

Tun, our farmer, came up to me as I grabbing a drink from the booze pile.
"Morning, G," She said in a kind voice.
"Morning, Tun, how are you today?"
"Fine, fine. Hey, did you know the entrance into our meeting room is somewhat mined of silt?"
"Silt? What's that?"
"Silt is basicly soil, but it's a bit more efficient. It can grows plants faster."
"Well, your in control of our farming industry, correct?"
"Yes, but... I just need your opinion. Should we dig out our meeting and turn it into our underground farm, while using the old farm atthe meeting room?"
That wasn't such a bad idea. With a bigger meeting room, we can place some statues in there like I always wanted to.
"Ok, go ahead. Build as big a farm as you want."

20th Hematite, 126

"Excuse me, sir, is this the Dwarven outpost that was recently built?"
"Yes, I'm a leader here. May I help you?"
"Me and everyone here. We are from the Mountainhomes. When we heard about this place, we were just wanting to come here. Hundreds of people want to, but King Scalewheeled is only letting so many out every season."
"You mean you're immigrants?"
"Yes, we are."
"Well, I welcome you to our home. Make sure you talk to Tun over there tending the plants, you'll have to learn to farm here if you wish to live here."
"Alright, we will do that. Thank you."
I wasn't expecting immigrants from the homes this early. If I had found out, I would have started making our workshop room, get a Carpenter's Shop up, and built some beds!
After doing a head count, we now have 5 more mouths to feed. This might get hard very quick.
Also, the whole migrant group were females. Wow.

7th Limestone, 126

It took Nil a long time, but we finally managed to dig out our new farm. If Tun's correct, the silt will help us grow our plants a bit faster than ordinary soil.

"Alright, everyone," Nil yelled as she was coming up the ramp, "Let's get planting!"

I just hope she's right. Our supplies are dwindling and we haven't had a caravan come since we got here. The fates are againest us now.

10th Limestone, 126

Our horses have given birth to a foal. Most creepy thing I'll ever see. I thought I ordered them butchered? Wait, I am the butcher, so I'll have to butcher them...

26th Sandstone, 126

"Excuse me," A dwarf about the size of katana said as he poked Conan's shoulder.

"Yes?" Conan replied.

"Are you the leader of this outpost? I'm one of the few migrants that just got here."

"I'm not the leader, you would have to talk to G. He's over there, but for archiving purposes, what is your name?"

"My name? Teak. Clothier by profession, but I also have some skill in engineering when we were constructing the Great Anvil in 99 and some in brewing, for when we had the annual feasts."

"Hmm. Weren't you one of the few mapmakers for the Great Anvil, whatever they would call you?"
"An architect? Yes, I was."
"Interesting. Anything else?"
"I hate wood. All kinds of wood, even things made from. I just wanna kill all those elves for their wood-related culture."
"Ok, then. You should also go talk to G, since he's in charge. After that, you may wanna talk to Tun, who is down the ramp in the meeting hall. You gotta learn some farming if you with to live here."
"Very well, then. Thank you."

As I did another head count, we have 4 more than what I counted last time. Teak and Pisana also introduced themselves to me, sent by Conan. Pisana's a mason, Rocks of Speech Mason Badge and everything. Teak seems to hate everything wood, especially Elves because of their culture. I don't mind elves myself, but they can get a bit out of control with trading cloth to the Mountainhomes. But he's one to keep, he seems to be a pretty decent brewer and engineer, showed me some of his little gadgets he created in his youth, but now he's quit after he nearly killed himself and went on to became a clothier.

Well, at least we have a brewer, we need drinks!
Well, the good side is that we got 1 male out of that whole group.

1428
I'm in. Also:
Male swordsdwarf named katana, 4 points in bone carve, 4 in swords, 1 dodger, 1 in... teacher?

Katana, do you wanna dual-wield?

Also Pisano, we've ran out of males. Would you like a female instead or wait until the first migration wave for a male?

Unless you actually start a fort when looking at the map the game doesn't save any of your notes.

Noted.

Ok, we are set to go, but first i have to find my spot again. DF decided it'd be funny to delete my note.

Mod Releases / Re: Pony Mod: My Little Fortress

I d'awwed.

Once I get back home from Florida, I'll have to swap up to the most current release of the mod, then get down to some serious ponying.

I can already think of some good sex jokes to that.

1433
I want a full military peasant (dual-weilding Axedwarf) named G.

Bumping to keep on top. GET A SPOT BEFORE WE BEGIN GODDAMNIT!!!

What do you mean by a 'tech tree'?
There are several new buildings added in this mod. Along with these buildings, there are also several new items and metals and the like. Varying buildings allow you to do varying things of increasing coolness, but in order to do those things one needs to find certain metals, acquire certain items, or otherwise unlock the next tier by random chance. It's not incredibly difficult to progress along the tech-tree, nor is it necessary, but it does take time.

I don't want to spoil anything, and narhiril can probably give a much much better explanation than I ever could, but here's an example: The dwarves of defensepicks have a robust alchemy program, it hasn't really provided them much of use until now. While mining out the hauler's quarters, they came across a vein of a strange ore which they were quick to dub "Orichalcum". After smelting this ore into bars, the metal was tossed off into a backroom stockpile for a number of years until one day a curious alchemist took one bar to his workshop in order to test its properties. While working, he discovered that the metal had a strange shape-memory property, and he was soon able to create a set of tools out of them.
A passing mechanic saw this set of tools, recognized them for what they were, and dashed off to build an Advanced Mechanics Shop. Here, he was able to create more of those tools with the right metals, as well as advanced mechanisms which were put to use in creating obstacle courses, mechanical training dummies, and various training courses for the fort's medics.
As these dwarves trained, they documented their progress in a variety of ways. Alchemists took these documents and studied them, eventually coming up with a variety of scientific advances, one of which allowed the fortress to harness the raw energy found in a stone called Lustrum, essentially removing their reliance on wood for fuel.

Wow. Just wow.

Tilesets and Graphics / Re: Ironhand's Graphics Set (nothin' new)
« on: July 01, 2011, 11:21:40 am »
The graphics set IS NOT dead yet. At least... I don't think it is. But I don't have time to poke it with a stick right now and find out. In another month or two it will either be really smelly (and so we'll know it's dead), or it will have gotten all rested up and be ready to go again.

Seriously, though, I TOTALLY expect to get back into this. At least until 11/11/11, when Skyrim comes out. Then I won't have any free time.

Understandable, I guess. The Elder Scrolls can be pretty addictive. I just hope folks do not completely forget about Dwarf Fortress afterwards.  :(

Once you start playing dwarf fortress there is no escaping you always come back to the game and the community, you lose your soul to bay12!!

People might not play dwarf fortress for some time, but they'll return, because while new games come out and run their course, Dwarf Fortress is forever expanding.
