The new metals should be offerable to an altar, which gives you an electric guitar that you can use to shred, bash and strum. (I'm talking about making a weapon, btw)

EDIT: The weapon should also be able to shoot arrows or projectiles at railgun speeds.

This post makes me wish I could change the names of demons to Death Metal band names. "Oh no, not an Amon Amarth! Anything but an Amon Amarth!"

But you can add creatures down there.

Check if the creature has SWIMS_INNATE or swimming skill. If the werewolves have either one of those tags, you'll have to devise a better drowning trap.

Well, about how hematite turns to iron and stuff, is because the smelter reaction uses hematite to switch into iron bars.

You need to make a separate metal that uses the METAL_TEMPLATE and edit the metal's stats from there.

If you want to understand a bit, look for iron in the metal raws, look for hematite in the mineral raws, and open the smelter reaction file and look for the iron melting raws there.

Just thought of a new enemy that would be awesome in Terraria.

Magma Crabs.

They'd be invisible while in magma, and then, while you're just minding your own business, mining for some obsidian, it jumps up and proceeds to claw you.
That would give us some enemies, actually fitting to the magma level. What do you think?
and a magma spitter version that hurls gobs of magma at you?

Make them vulnerable to water too.
Maybe killing them with water would form a statue of the crab, which can be placed and is completely useless apart from aesthetic purposes.
Except if the statue is ever doused with magma again it reanimates and kills you!

I need to send a link to blue and red  ;D

Next, they need to make firebats...
