Hey guys, I haven't given up on the story. Just been busy with university stuff and a whole bundle of other projects. On the plus side, I have worked out several new bits in the over-arching storyline. I have also worked out the characterization for all of the various races, come up with a bundle of new ideas for the next few chapters and even designed a few bits of technology for the humans of the far north. They are coming.

If you guys want me to elaborate on any concepts, for instance talk about goblin culture, describe the functioning of any individual piece of technology, talk about the capacities and ideas behind any of the races, people, ideas or anything like that, just feel free to ask. :)

Anyway, sorry about the delays. I'll have a new chapter up in the next few days, and I'll see about starting a proper schedule soonish.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy it.

Does this mean that we have advanced beyond the guild system into a union system that advocates mandatory medical care for all workers?

(After a patient comes in suffering from broken limbs and mangled organs. Having fought of the greatest and most powerful FB the surgeon deems in necessary to revive him)
Urist McUnfriendlyDoctor: "Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology."
Urist McNurse "True, but it's not the technology we're worried about doctor."
(Urist McUnfriendly Doctor turns on Urist McNurse slowly menacing with a cleaver)
Urist McUnfriendlyDoctor: "Oh dear, nurse, you seem to have a brain hemorrhage. Shame that but don't worry, I shall fix it and you permanently")
Urist McNurse: "What?! No! No I don't! Get away from me! Get awa....AHHHHH!"

Urist McNurse has been struck down!

So if I use double stack outer walls, I can funnel the enemy into my territory without having to waste troops or kittens? Interesting. I could design something like the bocage and force the enemy to take the longest route possible without having to over-expose my soldiers, then once they are within attack range of my towers I charge in and railroad the survivors with a small number of steel clad infantry. Design it around a villa and farms and set the archers to attack everything within range. It's perfect! Marble walls and floors through the artificial bocage, a small number of block houses with light militia assigned to seek out any ambushes, the strong use of a multi-tiered rank and position system meaning that those militia who survive and become skilled make up the backbone of my armored corps. I smell a glorious citadel. Now I need a trademark basilica to even things out and I am a happy man.

Yeah, I manage to dig a few covered trenches that lead to guard towers in the four corners of my ranch. It's looking more like a gulag than anything else. Perhaps that should be the product of my place? Forced labor?

Anyway, what are the rules for shooting on multi-Z levels? Can I do it? Does the shot loose power?

I gots a better idea now. Imma channel out all of this useless fireclay and find a mountain made of stone and nothing but. Maybe I'll save half a layer for farming and potting purposes...

Two words: Sky Farm
Make it of glass!

Make it threaten with spikes of artifacts that they themselves threaten with spikes!

I have an exterior wall and buildings. So, yeah. I'll set up a small guard to maintain and run skirmishes with anything I don't like and see how that goes.

I now realize that my childhood sucked. I never got anything like that! D:

No idea, I forgot to check... Silly me :P
Anyway, along with the ranch, I have decided to actually make the neon sign or at least signal fires. Several bins filled with lignite blocks burning should do it.

It's... uh... how the game works? Not sure what you want us to say. Building destroyers are intent on solely destroying constructed buildings, however surreal it may come off as.

Mostly, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one. I never had it happen before. Other than that, I'm just engaging and validating the opinions of those people who've taken the time to reply.

So they can smell the cut timber of a door, but not the cut timber of a cage trap?

And Ultra, these things appeared at the edge of the map and headed straight for my stuff, killed five of my dworfs and vanished when most everything was destroyed.

Most certainly not megabeasts. These were normal, run of the mill building destroyers, which I can understand. The issue I have is the fact that they magically knew where my stuff was. That's just unnatural.

Like, from a evolutionary point of view, if their main hunt is dworfs then certainly as a surface species they would have died out ages ago?

Okay, so I started by setting the population limit to about 12. The I decided to build mostly above ground (minus a small mine for iron, basements for food storage and growth and possibly a small shaft to the caverns so I can say that I've managed it). I had a small house and everything. Then all of a sudden, I get a whole bundle of building destroyers on the map and all hell breaks loose as they come at my ranch and bulldoze everything.

What. The. Hell.
They weren't even aware of my ranch or the dworfs, what happened? Did my dworfs discover neon and build a sign when I wasn't looking? Was there a fire I wasn't aware of? Perhaps a telegram went out to all the local giant everythings?

Please explain.
Very much appreciated.

J.
