Really? I quite like the idea of a crawling fungus that covers all of my soil. I frequently dissipate my floors in such a way that it's a smooth transition. However I fully agree that it should be poison. Only after long exposure however. And there should be a manufacturable cure. Actually... that gives me an idea for a pharmaceutical fortress that thrives on the chemistry industry.

Not at all, it's just an announcement that the goblins have brought with them the vial; "force of darkness" It's an artifact vial, worth a mint. Indeed, only the most legendary of weaponsmiths, armoursmiths and masons should get to handle it. Send them out to take it from the goblins as a gift.

Food isn't as important in the long run as one would think. Once you get the start of the food industry going you can generally ignore it for periods of time.

DF players need a natural outlet.  I can pretty much guarantee that those participating in this thread have experienced smoother, less chaotic forts.  All of their chaotic neutral energy is directed at this thread, allowing their forts to thrive.

When we say clowns we actually mean clowns. Really! There's a circus down there and everything! It's soooooo cool, you should check it out. Sure it's a bit of a dig but the light is really just a reward in itself. Oh! By the way, they love gifts, they're the only creatures who will actually take gifts from your dworfs. Especially adamantine warhammers. Of course it improves happiness so in turn it improves productivity. No we're not going to lie to you, farming, woodcutting and mining are pretty important. So I suggest you send all of your guys down there with ALL of the addy converted into warhammers. Mmmm, theres a bug where they only actually take the one gift and you can't offer another so you better be ready. Anyway, all the effort is worth it, cause the game sets the circus as a new meeting hall, so you should leave a very clear path to the circus. Also! Before I forget, the circus chews through a bit of your FPS so you might want to avoid the traps and defences facing the caverns. Don't stress though. Those clowns are BRILLIANT fighters, you'll see. I promise it.

The main shaft has been lost, we have fallen back to the great hall but we do not expect the food to last the season. I have begun work on the shaft that will connect the hall to the storage galleries. More invaders come via the basilica, they move through the halls, killing the few dwarfs cought outside. They have not found the great spiders pit. They will release the mother of dozens and all her spawn. We will retake the basilica, the court and the bridge. The royal palace wil be sealed. The invaders wll burn as the little magma left in the magma cylinders hits the drink stores.

I've experimented havily into this. Picks use the mining skill as far as I can see, so an ademantine pick (which does a solid stabbing damage) is potent in the hands of a legendary miner. I use the first two miners I get to beef out the military once I get them up to legendary.
As for equipping? Easy done. To equip it, you need to make sure nobody is using it as a pick and then select it from the weapon screen in the military. However, as far as I can tell, a dwarf using it as a pick will not use it as a weapon unless in self defence. So it is best to get him to use a copper pick as a tool and the addy pick as a weapon.
As for digging speed, material makes 0 difference. Only the skill as far as I can tell.
Remember however, a pick is a stabbing weapon and so against creatures with no organs it won't do as much damage, still as an addy weapon, it should be potent regardless.

EDIT: Not on the wiki so it's either Fortress Defense or the Flora and Fauna mod. I suspect !!SCIENCE!! is in order.
