"The Bay12 bump."

Yeah it all makes sense. Especially for all the "I'm going to make Dwarf Fortress, but better!" games that promote on these boards.

Yeah http://www.deathroadtocanada.com/paypal.html

Cash that out ASAP when your kickstarter is done. http://www.giantbomb.com/articles/crowdfunding-s-secret-enemy-is-paypal/1100-4743/

I will, always heard that people have problems with their money being held. Though the Paypal really didn't make much, anyway.

The Death Road to Canada Kickstarter probably isn't going to reach $50k, so no elaborate outtakes. But it does look like it's going to hit $40k. If it does, I'll do a short video of Tarn hitting himself in the eye over and over as we filmed his sunglasses scene. See a side of Tarn you usually wouldn't see (him in increasing amounts of pain).

Our Greenlight is at #29 right now, which seems impossibly good. We've only been up for 28 days, and the last press coverage we got was a small amount 4 weeks ago. Is posting to the Bay 12 Forums the secret to success?

Anyway we can really use more Greenlight votes, if anyone has a Steam account and hasn't voted already. I think the next round of approvals will probably be the top 25 or so, and right now we're just outside of that.

If you want to support us but don't have the money to throw at Kickstarter, we could really use Greenlight votes if you have a Steam account.

As of this post we're at #85 out of all 1,404 games on Greenight. Been going up slowly and steadily, but I think we need like triple the votes to make it through.

So it's FTL except on earth with zombies?

FTL didn't really do much with the Choose Your Own Adventure stuff, I thought. They mostly amounted to either "dice roll check for catastrophic failure vs small reward", skip the event, or obvious 100% choice blue options. We're trying to do a lot more than that, ideally more like King of Dragon Pass.

Backing.  Hoping for high amounts of replay value here.

That's going to be our focus for the game. Lots of different events, character personality types, rare Easter Egg style stuff.

They said "sure whatever" on the outtakes.

So Bay 12 Games Forum *Exclusive Stretch Goal*:
If the project gets to 50k, I'll do that outtakes video. I know I have some pretty good scenes of Tarn injuring himself.

I'll have to check with Tarn and Zach as to whether or not I can release their SUPER EMBARRASSING outtakes. I made a joke about doing so, ideally set to the same type of music Jackie Chan used for his outtakes.

Hey Kepa, thanks for stopping by!

So how did you manage to get Toady in a Kickstarter video? Of all the novel Kickstarter promos I've seen, that tops them.

We (Zack, Tarn, me) live near each other and we hang out about 1-2 times a week and have for a year or two now. We thought it would be a pretty funny joke to have Tarn semi-endorse/non-endorse the game. There's a bunch of cut footage here, including scenes with Zach.

Thanks for all the support! Looks like it'll probably make it, because it's at about 80% already. I'll be checking by the thread every once in awhile to answer any questions.

A few different people told me to check out the thread, here I finally am. Been busy for the past few days at PAX, with Tarn and Zach.

The game and the kickstarter its self all seem to be hitting the right spots for me. :D

I'd love to contribute within the 28 days left but I lack access to a debit or a credit card. Will you have any other funding options open?

We'll likely be doing the Humble Store thing that integrates with Kickstarter, which allows for Paypal.

Looks like Organ trail.

It's got a station wagon in it, but we're trying to avoid making it much like Organ Trail/Oregon Trail except for the "driving cross country" part. Besides missing the city exploration bits, Oregon Trail really didn't provide many interesting choices. I can only remember a couple real Choose Your Own Adventure bits during the original Oregon Trail, like crossing the river.

DF Bug Reports / Re: Heroic fighter dwarves are grumpuses

That would make sense, if you could change legendary normal fortress guards into royal guards.  I think they're just accidentally too stubborn as a result of the bit that prevents them from being turned back into laborers.

DF Bug Reports / Heroic fighter dwarves are grumpuses

Military heroes and legendary skill guards are a bunch of stubborn jerks.  There, I said it.

In one Dwarf Fortress game I got a bunch of swordmasters and a legendary axe dwarf.  They got to these positions by training as off-duty military and guards.  Then I was ready to fight the demons, so I tried to change them to military types so that I could  get them ready.

<Axey> I DUN WANNA MILITARY!  HEROES DO NOT WORK! (military assignment option doesn't even show up)

Same problem when I tried to make a swordmaster fortress guard into a royal guard, or a military master into a guard.  The military and guard assignments don't show up, because it says that heroes do not work.

It makes sense that you can't make a legendary axeman into a farmer.  It doesn't seem intentional that you can't make a guard into a military unit when you need to prepare for a big battle.

DF Suggestions / Barrels vs casks and a mining suggestion
« on: August 24, 2006, 03:37:00 am »
I'd like to be able to make liquid-only barrels (casks).  With food and drink being shared by the same container type, it becomes difficult to brew any drinks.  Past a certain point in food production, all of my barrels are instantly snatched up to put seeds or plants in.  I think being able to have your carpenters make liquid only casks would make brewing a lot less cumbersome.

Being able to designate between having my highest ranking miners dig or my lowest ranking ones dig would be great.  I tend to use higher ranking ones to get ore and lower ranking ones to produce less stone when expanding.  Right now to do this, I have to unassign/reassign a bunch of miners every time.

Also, I know this is already in the bloat section, but I'm really looking forward to some way to assign a personal workshop to a single person, so only he can use it.  Similar to assigning a dining room to a specific person.  This would really help with making the best items I can or leveling a specific person's crafting skill without constantly switching everyone's labor settings.

DF Suggestions / Re: Apprenticeships
« on: August 24, 2006, 03:44:00 am »
This is already planned in one of the bloats.  I only know this because it's mentioned along with assigning personal workshops, which I have an interest in.  Less interesting to me: The prosthetic beard system.

A trait inheritance system might be cool, too.   A child turning into an adult could have higher than normal in stats if their parents had high stats.

DF General Discussion / Re: Future of the Fortress

Here's my favorite item from the dev_notes.txt that hasn't been mentioned in this thread yet:

"consider consolidating nobles"

In the current system, there's a big list of nobles.  Compare this to the tiny list of incentives against releasing mandrills into most of their bedrooms.

Primitive portable guns are a pretty cool concept.  I'd probably just stick to crossbows, though.  Crossbow bolts don't involve a complex manufacturing process that requires a set of specific materials.
