OP updated.  Also, there are only 2 days left to vote! Everyone vote vote vote for your favorite location! :D

Oh god! It's been longer than 48 hours and the new topic hasn't been created, shock and horror! Heh, need something other than work to fill my time and I'd meet some new people but I'm moving house soon which would make that a wee bit futile... *impatient poke* :P

I just thought of something.

Do you win or lose if your fort-destroying device goes off during your turn?

I'm pretty sure the objective is less to destroy the fortress which you could do pretty easily but to make your successors job as hard as possible. I mean if you wanted to be a pain you could put a burrow in a room, send every dwarf there, lock the door, pour lava in from the ceiling but that voids the entire point of the succession and I imagine would be grounds for reverting the turn unless of course I'm misunderstanding you which is entirely possible.

What's bugging me now is, I can't remember how we still had food. I can remember where the workshops were, all the forgotten beasts, the graveyards... but what happened to the farms?

Heh, well I for one started of the turn by opening the status screen realized we had about 2,000 food+drink. At that point I went "screw it" and opened up therapist to give everyone a profession of either miner or mason, went on a construction spree and ended my turn 9 months early for fear that the fort would collapse if I went on for much longer.

...I'll pm you the second it's up.

Sounds good to me  :D

I don't suppose I could be added to the turn list as well?  Though i'm not sure the fort will survive that long  :P
And you'd be surprised how long the previous fortress lasted, if not for lag it might have even recuperated from the crisis it faced.

E: Damn ninja!

Two things:

Can someone give me a challenge for my turn?
Can I be given the world 3 map to make a head start (in the unlikely event of the favoured map changing in the next two days I don't mind starting again)

DF Suggestions / Re: More ways to kill in unarmed combat.

Personally I think it'd be quite cool if you could equip fighting styles like weapons, eg. you pick up a book which trains you to novice in beard fu and then one can activate that skill meaning when you go to attack someone amongst the normal options appears attacks such as "strangle with beard".

DF General Discussion / Re: WHY TOADY WON'T RESPECT OUR FREEDOM?

Presumably this thread will end up locked soon, though.  I know I reported it.
Probably best actually, Toady should be awake in an hour and a half.

Whilst Nogibator clearly appears to have a terribly flawed ideology of how the digital age functions and an almost complete absence of maturity I have considered this idea a few times:

  • How can additional developers be introduced into the creative maturity of Dwarf Fortress and what if anything would this add to the game?
  • Priorities in fulfilling this objective would include Tarn retaining his authority, being support himself and not diluting the experience with a cesspool of lesser versions, right?
  • How would an open source method conform to this? Could a developers API similar to Minecraft's work?
  • How about unpaid apprenticeships? One could learn a lot under Tarn's tutelage and I expect many would leap at the opportunity.

Of course there's then the question of whether that would be a good thing, personally my answer would be no but it's definitely worth considering :)

Whilst the game itself hasn't the role-playing forum has pretty dramatically, I accidently formed a role-playing group there and as a result am setting up a company, changed my career path from photography to web design, talked someone through life problems and essentially out of suicide, and provided the initial inspiration for that persons life work. So all in all through an awfully large amount of coincidence DF has completely changed my life.

Just a thought, for your next drawing could you use a screen recorder like Cam Studio, record you drawing, speed it up a bit and chuck the result on Youtube? Just thought it'd be quite cool is all ^_^

Heh, that last one is pretty awesome, how about this one as inspiration for an extreme tea party?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It's good to see people trying to contribute ideas though! :D
'spose, also 'cos my turn first I take it you'll give me the save file and I'll find the location from the image? If we do it that way I'll be sending The Bearded Woman to Gearfallen

Since most of these embarks seem to be in highly hostile environments I propose that executions of dwarves (for the good of the colony) be carried out primarily by exile with windows to the outside so that passersby can watch as he/she gets mutilated by the inevitable zombies / weird precipitation. A factor that would render this suggestion moot though is the huskifying mist which would sadly make them immortal (I think? Never played with husks before). In that case I suggest death by sudden velocity nullification resulting from a greater than 20 z-level drop onto a single menacing spike that ends in the dining hall so as to teach the dwarves the futility of their lives. They can all be picked in The Lottery >.>

Common peoples, you know the drill! Everybody creates there own ridiculous execution method!
