Should have this turn finished on Tuesday. Got most of it done now, just need to report what happened. Heading out for buskwalking tomorrow so I guess it will wait till after that :D

if they're not redemptionists themselves, they're probably sinners anyways
This.. :D or they are attacking to press gang them into service knowing they are easier to convert.

"whats that? you dont want to leave your family to join the church..."
*sound of purging flames*
"there now you dont have a family"

If there was a way to have your parent civ never send a caravan I would do that, and make another caravan only civ. Would be a good workaround for some current problems.

I did have an idea about RAWs that randomise before each worldgen (or on command with a batchfile) but I dont have any idea how to code textparsers/modifiers. There have been other attempts to make this on B12 in the past but none ever really worked.

IF this were possible we could have a random house gang come to trade with you, and another that comes to attack you, cycling them with each worldgen. CRAZY ideas!

how about Spryer megabeasts?
Or having specialized civs for the 4 houses from the main part of hive city?

No Spoilers what megabeasts we will have, but they have been implemented and are undergoing testing... :D

I imagined the settlement you are running to be made up of outcasts, rather than people from a particular House. There are also large problems with having more than 4 friendly wagon bringing Civs in Vanilla DF. I dont think having a caravan arrive each season will be good for game balance (unless you like very easy games). The graphics have been based on the House figurines, so you might see special characters or raiders come in different flavours over time.

We have given creative control of the Houses and hivers art over to Suds, so feel free to fill his inbox with requests MUHAHAHA!

I remember those Specialist Games rules... classic necromunda

Work continues.

New tileset has come in from Suds. We got Redemptionists, Enforcers and everything!

It requires some RAW modification so I wont be able to release it just yet..

Started the detail on the cruiser. Started with the guns of course! Most of the hour was taken prepping the rest of the drawing. Only spent about 20 minutes actually detailing the gun. I'll be working on this until its done or I'm bored of it, so I wont upload the progress until the end.

Spring - Year 31

I was there when they found him. We were suspicious when the overseer mandated the construction of a "suicide bridge". He claimed it was to be used as a watch point but we all knew. A few of us arrived just in time to stop him from throwing himself over the edge. He has been locked in his room with his wife, who is also a mess.

It seems that I am the one to clean up this mess. I should admit that old Controltrades didn't do a terrible job but there are many things that were overlooked.

  • There were 30+ new migrants who had not been assigned a single labour
  • The squads were improperly assigned and understaffed
  • Several of the professions were understaffed (Water still operators, farmers)
  • While some effort was made, the new farm areas are not being used properly

I found that half our seeds were being stored in an unused archery range. These are being moved to the new farm area. I have also mandated the contruction of a bridge over the new moat area. The entrance had been widened but the wagons still could not enter! If they pass us by again we will be in a very bad way.

OOC:

I re-adjusted all labours and filled all the military squads. Ive also made some new uniforms to make it easy to equip new squads with either Autoguns, Stubguns+melee or 2x melee

TIP for future overseers: do not use the basic stockpile options, especially for food! If even one  square with this enabled could have all of our seeds moved across the enormous settlement we have. Same goes for the plants, (Crop) varieties should be stored near to the fields, and non-crop varieties should be stored near the secondary processing areas. Items which can be cooked should be stored near the kitchens. Prepared food should only be stored in Dining rooms.

On a lighter note Talvieno did manage to smooth and engrave pretty much the entire settlement!

ok i got the save playing it now

Also fixed:
Cave Spores edible cooked before prepared but will give severe food poisoning
Cave Spores edible cooked after being prepared (gives very minor poisoning)
Cave Spore leaves edible cooked (almost never gives poisoning)
Waxroot should be pressable to Oil for cooking/soap
Blood and Bone reaction isn't accepting bonemeal
Rates for Ash from the Kilns are wrong
Rock pots look like barrels now (instead of traction benches)
Water is created in barrels of 25 now (need 25 bottles)
Second Best actually works now and is made in barrels of 10 (need 15 bottles of water, 6 organs and yeast)
Burning refuse yields Ash only, can be made into Fertilizer at the ashery

Once the new release is out I can upgrade the save to the new bone structure system.

that, my good sir, is epic MSpaintwork.
Should just move a few pixels around to make it no longer 100% perfect. Would probably make for mindrape...

I was having an inspiration block, so I invited my house-mate (sci-fi book devourer) to be a "director" while I designed a new ship. He was allowed to suggest things, and had veto power to remove any parts he didn't like(almost total control). Was really good to end up with something that was not at all of my design, but was still my artwork. He was also impressed with the result as he considers himself to have less than zero artistic capabilities.

The first ship we made and a turret. Next task will be to detail this like the engine

A larger one we started to go with the turret

Perhaps, but you're fixing bugs, yes? I think that's worth modifying it a bit - just to make sure the game plays as it's supposed to.

I'm going to download a clean version of the mod (Mine's riddled with heavy modding) and try to mess with it as little as possible. I'm going to inist on.....

Talvieno, this is why I asked first

Splint, you cant add the things you want without regenning the world (helms, civ changes, ect). Sorry to burst your bubble. The new release has more headgear and tougher skulls (see Corrosion mod for more info)

EDIT:

The rest will be left as is, mostly so I can force myself to come to grips with that damned lake of any reasonable protection for hands and feet. (Once again, my rage says that makes no sense in such a place.)

This is a hardcoded bug in vanilla DF. You CANT armour fingers, toes and some parts of the face. Once those parts are gone, it doesn't matter if you still have hands and feet as you often bleed to death.

I just run it with backups every season, and do an extra backup before I try something risky. My last turn was backed up about 12 times...

Some call it savescumming, I call it continuing the narrative.

Also if nothing exciting happens I often restart my turn. No excuse for a boring turn.

Its just bad form to modify the game save when its in progress... I'll do what I can to fix it up

Seriously, these are the things that were stopping me from doing it. I am that guy who always has 100 projects on the go, and always looking to start more but never finishing any of them... My first project was finished last year. I turn 30 this year and it was the only thing I ever completed.

I have always had trouble drawing in perspective and 3d. Also I failed my drawing class at uni because my teacher issued a task where we had to draw WITHOUT LINES. Just shaded areas mashed together to make a picture. COULD NOT DO!

Some good tips I've been operating by:
A little a day is better than a lot once a week
Stop BEFORE you have had enough
Set extreme short term goals, as well as the regular short and long term ones.

Seems to be helping so far.

Its inspiring to see art like this just wish i wasent sooo lazy and do some myself.
Thanks, These latest pics were done in an hour each. I've only spent about 10 hours total in Illustrator actually drawing. Try the challenge yourself for an hour a day, and I can guarantee results in a week...

Or just buy my book for $39.95 (plus P&H).

Today and yesterdays art hours.

Started using Illustrator in a "pixel perfect" mode. Drew the smaller scale then scaled it 200% and started to add detail. Various reference material used for each part but the overall design just evolved as I was drawing.

again, feedback welcome
