DF Suggestions / Different Flavored Demi-gods.
« on: November 18, 2011, 09:30:52 pm »
As it stands, all demi-gods are all more or less beings with extraordinary stat-caps....and pretty much just that.

But when I think of the tales of old, these demi-gods, like the deity that sired them, all had a particular theme. Hercules was strong enough to hold up the sky. Achilles and indeed many other "demi-gods" from various cultures, such as Sigurd or Esfandyar were invulnerable in all but a single point. An achilles heel if you will.

SO WHAT EXACTLY DO I PROPOSE?

When generating a demi-god, the most important factor is where the divine parantage resides. So, let's just say the game pics a god at random, and comes up with one of your deities that is associated with the sky and fire. It would then randomly choose sky or fire. And alter your demi-god accordingly.

Let's say it chose fire, and then decided to slap the Lava-Immune tag on your character. He could then swim as he likes ((provided he knows how to swim)) within lava. His only concerns that his attire would burn away to nothing and leave him naked. Or maybe drowning.

SO IN A NUTSHELL. Demi-god is gifted with a random power, randomly chosen from what is associated with his randomly picked Divine parent. ((and since gods are randomly generated as well...that's just even better.))

Powers could range from the incredibly useful : Can fly, Can breath water, Giant Strength ((ie. treated as a giant in mass for wrestling/striking/related things)), doubling your speed from what it already is, having unbreakable bones. Never sleeps, Eternally young,  Etc.

To the less so. : Generates Miasma, Always Drunk, Blood/Vomit burns or freezes things, Immune to all forms of syndrome, inspires tantrums. Can mine without a pick. Etc.

And maybe, every so often generate a weakness to go with a demigod. Like weakness to a certain material ((anything, from silver to larch, would be insanely DF to have a legendary demi-god killed with a larch figurine of himself)), abilities that only manifest during night or day, or maybe even only when holding a certain object, like a flute or short spear. Sky is the limit really.

AND LET'S NOT FORGET

You really...-really- should set it up to generate demi-gods in world gen, and then again throughout history. And don't just limit them to humans/dwarves either. I can already imagine a demi-god bronze collossus that breathes fire, whorshipped by a cult of goblins.

I like how he just keeps getting more weapons each time you draw him...

is that a DRILL ARM?! I'm all about -drill arms-! I now refuse to see that as a kite sheild, in favor of him drilling a way into hell.

Shook...that is tremendous. How do I start using it everywhere for everything?

I...I think so...

Your sir, are a magic man.

You know, I've always thought, upon rolling an adventurer and ended up with large or very large for an X....I would be neat if there were an option in a mod to pick your body type, instead of being so randomized.

Sometimes I want to be a very large fat guy. You know?

Get a pick axe or spear, or anything that gets lodged in peeps most of the time. Upon lodging it in someone, just drop it. It stays stuck in them.

Coolest thing I did in awhile with wrestling was get a pike-man and spearman on either side of me. With nothing in my hands I grabbed both weapons. Killed the pike man instantly with a kick, then lodged his weapon firmly in the Spearman's chest. ((auto gain possession if your holding it and they let go.)) I then Tossed the spear man, and he luckily moved a tile. Threw his spear into him, and left him there for the rest of the battle. When the  battle was over I yanked out the spear and he bled out.

Now I carry a steel pick around and lodge it into people's heads. Oddly enough half the time it gets stuck in but does not kill them ((low mining maybe?)) I leave it lodged in their skull and finish them in the same manner.

Only problem? One notable bandit actually managed to flee while I wasn't paying attention, stealing my pick within the large randomized section of his skull. I have been unable to locate or report them dead thus far.

Alright! Here's one that's been bugging the -heck- out of me. It was a top down, -near- isometric looking game ((Sort of akin to Ultima Black Gate in that regard, but more cartoony graphics.)) You could aquire followers, whom actually followed you visably. Not any of this stacking nonsense to emerge when combat starts.

Combat itself was grid based AND turn-based and happened where you encountered enemies. There wasn't so much random battles as enemies spotting you. When a character's hp hit zero they fell to the ground ((occupying the square they were in)) and if not healed could die permenantly.

If I recall correctly alot of it took place in castle/dungeon settings, and had a bit of a dungeon crawl aspect to it. I've been looking for this PC game off and on for the better part of five years!

I saw this RPG -once- and didn't think to immediately write the title down, since I was like "This games the shit, course I'll remember this!" It also had a fairly robust magic and combat system.

HELP ME BAY 12 your my only hope!
