DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Bogeymen

I never die from them, nowadays.  My newer adventurers welcome the experience it brings, nowadays.

High speed, charge.  Attack repeatdly.  Run if SHTF.  Burn trees and bushes to buy time.  When you are on the far side of the they will have to path around them.

Usually I move away from the group while charging one to the ground if it gets too close, and try to keep going until morning.

I didn't have the ability to stand, though, so I had to fight.

Even a peasant dwarf can take on a horde of them if he gets a martial trance. Other than that, in the past I've been able to surround myself in campfires and wait until the cackling fades.

I don't think humans, natively, can Trance. I forget. The OP is playing a human.
Only dwarves get trances.

That's what I thought. So a human surviving Bogeymen is somethin'. I recall playing adventurer some updates ago, and the Bogeymen just kick my head in.

Jerks.
Well humans have the advantage of living in a world where they can reasonably get armor.

This is still the beginning of my adventure. A bandit camp and a huge goblin raid later. I wasn't wearing any armor.

How often do you survive bogeyman attacks? I created a new adventurer and forgot about not travelling at night alone:

I gained quite a lot of wrestling experience after losing my foot and arm earlier. The rest of the damage is either recent cuts from the goblin raid or damage from the bogeymen.
I'm surprised I survived for now, considering I usually get my head kicked in after the first few turns. And I'm not even wearing a helmet.
My only available attack is biting.

I had a moon horror pick up a cloak and proceed to stab a pikeman to death with it, then severely wound a wrestler.
it died 'cause I made it's upper body sail off in an arc.

now my unluckiest one may be due to either a glitch or a syndrome (if they affect you in adventure mode).
I got ambushed in the night. I took one step towards the humans, before anything touched me (no arrows hit me) I dropped all of my weapons, was reduced to crawling and my only attack was biting.
I still caused the leader's head to cave in with this.

My guess is some damage was done to your upper spine without you noticing it. You might have had an infection there as well.

Turns out I was brained by bogeymen awhile attempting to flee the scene after I realized that the lair was completely encase in a mountain range. I was going to find a dwarf or goblin tunnel into it... To late now.

Etru Poemwanders the Bravery of Courage was just turned into a brain slushy by a boggeyman after the swordsman succeeded in bashing his own ribcage in. What now?

After my fourth successive encounter with bogeymen, I am sorry to say that Etru Poemwanders the Bravery of Courage, master axeman, was gored through the brain by a bogeyman's horn while half a day away from the nearest friendly fortress. May she rest in piece with over 150 notable kills under her belt.

So, after straying into an enemy human civ, pillaging a fortress and a village, I lose my last companion.

And it is nightime.

SUDDENLY, BOGEYMEN

I barely survived an ambush, and one of my swords men seemed to go crazy. He proceeded to kill a miner and a maceman, and the first fortress I found he killed its lord. I did not want to become hostile to my civilization so I left him be and tried to lose him, but he was unfortunately quite good. While raiding the fortress of an enemy civ, however, he started attacking HIMSELF. I cannot describe it in words... He's still trying to bash himself to death with an iron shield.

I was JUST ambushed while on my way to kill my first Roc. It's not the first time it happened, I got the quest ages ago but somehow an ambush happens halfway through to the lair and I lose most of my companions.

Anyway, my hero, Etru Poemwanders the Bravery of Courage (random names FTW) is trekking across the snowy mountain, with cold feet, lugging an injured pump operator behind her, when she spots the elves trying to not be seen. She only has time to groan in frustration before their leader shouts: "HALT IN THE NAME OF THE STUPID CURSE" before her partners move out to deal with the threat. Then the elves, dressed in different uniforms, seemed to notice each other... And proceed to hack each other apart.

I just made a new world and it seems that every fortress save one in the current area has been abandoned. The only one that isn't only has a lord.

According to the wiki, this happens if the civ has been taken over by a demon, but the lord should be a demon; he's not. He's a human and his description is typical of a weak noble type.

:/

One of the civs in my current world was taken over by an ass brute who is actually quite polite, but none of their fortresses are abandoned and the ass brute has the fortress with the most soldiers.
