I don't know what it is, but I always make people if I sit down and work on something in inkscape. This is roughly the third proportion of people I've made. I didn't use any reference, so overall I'm fairly happy with it. Only issue being the nose, it looks kinda goofy.

I'm not too sure what I'll make out of this. Probably remake Peter Dolphin, the best xcom sniper I've lost.

Ah, The Last Apprentice. I really liked that series, not sure why I never finished it. I feel like I'm going to have to at some point.

I sent you an request, too. Steam name is Treemeister, and I think I'm going to make a new character with the same name.

I've gone through a couple characters so far, and only on the last one remembered the inventory system :P. So now I can actually make progress that isn't blunder ahead half-blind until I died of poison. Certainly makes it a lot more enjoyable.

One question, though. Where are the puzzles? Another thought that just popped into my head, will we eventually see puzzles and traps overlapping, so you're sliding around your blocks while trying to not run over the bear trap?

edit: Just made it to what I think is the boss room. Massive puzzle. Badly injured character. I'm ready to go.

I don't think having to push all those button combos would really fit the game. So far it seems fairly "hands-off" in it's approach to things, where they're fairly simple controls, but get fairly complex under the hood. so having to repeatedly tell a colonist to move and attack would go against that. I think a simple "here are your orders, execute them as you see fit" sort of deal would work, where you tell a colonist to run on sight, or to run when wounded, or fight to the last breath. Each having their own bonus', and also being affected by the colonist's personality (cowards are more likely to freeze/run than a brave person, etc.)

*snip*
Which is why games need win conditions, even if the win condition is so hard the majority of players will never reach it.. as long as it's possible it gives you something to strive for, instead of just aimlessly wandering around.
*snippy snippy*
This is exactly why I never finish the main questline for sandbox games (Skyrim, Just Cause 2, etc.) I need something to be putting off and gearing up for for me to enjoy my play time.

I think so long as there aren't any house bits floating over the top of the ground, it will look fine

So I raided my first dungeon. Luckily, it was an Avian tomb, and I was an Avian named Sunfeet. I really liked having the first-hand knowledge of what the masks on the walls meant, and the gongs, etc. It had a pretty cool atmosphere. Granted, the AI is a bit thick right now, so the guards shuffled toward me in single file, saying "You killed [bird name]!" before getting chopped themselves.
For loot I got several stim packs of various colors, some silver bars and gold ore, bones, books, meat (yum), and an absolute buttload of crappy weapons (That is actually what the game classified them as). I'm now planning on taking the bricks and various statues, and converting my house into an Avian temple kinda thing.

I myself think this game could be really cool for making stories. Like legends in DF, reading (or watching!) your colonists create and maintain relationships with each other is something that would really interest me. Also, there wasn't too much to entertain yourself with back in the day, so I'd imagine gossiping about each other was a fairly common occurrence in the colonies.

I like where this is headed, though. It could become something really cool.

edit: I would also love to see some parallax backgrounds. That is the number one thing I love seeing in 2d games. They're just so pretty and stylish.

I prefer capture the flag out of the three modes. It's most reminiscent of Alpha, but I don't say that in the "Things were better back in my day!" sort of meaning. It's got the good stuff from alpha, like coins and freedom of building, but Beta improvements. I tried to go back and play alpha several months ago, and I just couldn't get used to it again (Everyone's so slow!).

edit:
Started playing in alpha and loved it. When beta arrived I tried it again and again, but just couldn't get into it and worried it wouldn't improve. Recently tried it again and can't put it down. The creators have my respect for tweaking it into a true gem. Glad to say I was wrong.
I know what you mean. They hit a rough patch in beta where it just wasn't as fun as it could've been. I think they really tapped a lot of that potential now.

I always used to throw commas into the most unneeded spots. Ones where they didn't seem super wrong, but they would grind the flow of what I was writing to a halt :P. It's gotten better recently.

One thing I will give Valkyr is that they look pretty cool. Can't comment on anything else, because I neither have it, nor any frame beside Excalibur for reference.

Oh. Ooooooh. THAT EXPLAINS THEIR OBSESSION WITH SOCKS! IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW!

BTW, why don't we actually start with socks most of the time?
The dwarves are secretly working on the advanced technological weapon known as the "rock in a sock"
