I did search using the phrases "search thoughts," "search skills," "search preferences," and nothing came up. If you find anything like this using different key words, please tell me.
So I was thinking about dwarves preferences, and how there's no easy way to find out what dwarf hates what. So I suggest that you can search all your dwarves minds simultaneously, to see if it's a good idea to tame that large roach.
The search thoughts page you probably be accessed through the units page by pressing f(or F, it wouldn't make a difference.) The page would pop up with three choices
m- search mood
p- search preferences
s- search skills
searching mood would bring up a page where you choose one mood from a list, or start typing it, like the manager job page, to narrow it down. Searching it will then bring up dwarves who are currently in that mood (ecstatic, content, etc.) and let you zoom to them, or view their thoughts/ preferences.
searching preferences would be similar to mood searching, but a bit different. You first choose from a list, or type to narrow, what about the preference you need (detest, prefers, etc.) Next, you type what creature/ object you want (large roaches, purring maggots, cat meat, etc.) the list of dwarves who have that thought about the object shows up, allowing you to zoom to or view their thoughts.
searching skills is also like the previous. You choose what skill level, and exact, above, or below that level(if any.) Next you type what skill it is you want (swimmer, woodcrafter, etc.) and again, the list of dwarves pops up, and lets you zoom or view thoughts.
uses for this would be
skill- seeing what dwarves would be good choices as military
preference- seeing if it would be a good idea to let that giant desert scorpion you stole bought from the elves out from his cage.
mood- find all you unhappy dwarves and throw them in the volcano give them the stuff that would make them happy.
Thanks for reading this, and I hope it hasn't been suggested before.
