DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Challenging False Deities.
« on: May 07, 2014, 01:07:49 am »
Yah, i had similar quest, i was sended by vampire lord in vanilla game to other castle. It was mistake, after 2-3 times when my demigod female human was tired and i just ranned from...

Were you able to legitimately challenge it? Or did you just attack it? I tried every option and none of them began a fight with the giant, but if there was one that I somehow missed or didn't show up due to a bug, it would be good to know about it.
I and my squad atacked him, then we got "bad creature" sentence.. They join to me, but... died very fast.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: DF 2012v0.34 question and answer thread
« on: May 03, 2014, 08:23:01 am »
Has anyone tried segregating a vampire into an area where blood barrels are available but booze and victims are not, and see if they will drink it?
They will not.

the farm plot produces too much crop, and is there an option to let it idle?

another question is about falcon breeding. there is already a tame female falcon and the surrounding is desert where wild falcon may appear. if the gate is closed for most of the year, will the egg still get fertilized by a passing-by wild falcon? some say it happens as long as its within the map.
Yes, in fact, he can be even caged (female can not!)

Edit; I just realized i replied for very old question, sorry.

Hey!

My linux DF is crashing every time when my bogeyman slayer is entering with bogieman in his backpack. Is this bug raporter?

Can i kill all bogeymans in the world or they're infinite spawning?

Can bogeyman be named?

This is not usual. When you abadon your huge fort, because of endless tantrum spiral you can be nearly sure, if you will take this same race and there is not too much dwarves in the world, they will come to ruin your next fort... :) Once i had the same military commander "Bob" in three forts (he died in horrible way, sadly)

1. Wrestling

The skill most dependent on luck to train, the best starting animals to train on are Wild Boars, Emus, Attacking Wolves, etc.  Just use a free hand to grab the face of the animal, and auto gouge out its eyes until it bleeds to death.  Repeat until you've reached legendary and beyond, and until you've maxed out your stats.
Find some small, not dangerous animal, wresle his throad by your arm/hand and start chocking him (wresling move), when strangle him (wresling move avaible after chocking). Now change your combat preference to Close Combat and press direction where is your oponent. Your hero will be strugling him to death in every turn when you try going in his dirrection to suffocate your target. Look out for creatures who don't breathe.

If you locked a vampire animal trainer in a chamber then flooded it and dropped a blue whale in, would the vampire train underwater?
Vampire don't care about wateer so long, as there is no flow wo will be pushing him around.

And if i am sure, your whale will be not drowning when we will be still in cage.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: What are your priorities on embark?
« on: April 30, 2014, 09:49:33 am »
I am preparing my design short after embark but... i don't give my dworfs way to mine it. They first dig my entrance, dormitory/barracks, farming area, food production area, and then miners are running to making trenches, for for and for trade deepot. When i they done first two levels of trench, i have ready farms, booze and food production. Then i am designing star section, so my dwarwes are rushing to dig it. and i am diging out connection to stone workshop area. This is stage, when mason/miner is ending his work. God practice, in my opinion, is sending lazy capenter to crafts. Mason is unexperienced so he is mass making blocks for walls and doors (door will be placed beetwen stockpilles and other not important places.

Important note, disable hauling things for your miners, they will do they job a lot faster.

PS: Doors can save your ass when gobos strike, you can lock them in forbiden stockpile, right? :)

There is a whole wiki page dedicated to challenges for your post-sufficient fortress. Check out some of the crazy ideas.

Now is the time you start your megaproject and enter into the Hall of Fame.
Or to Hell of Flame ;)

Try other industry. Observe your minions, give some better homes. You hospital needs upgrade. Meybe give them nice, clean water? Train wild animals and make them domesticated? Make cistern with water... or lava. Cannons! Did you tried siege engines? Minecarts? Cats in minecarts? Did you tried make masterwork statue room for lady? Or lord? Pack all these goblins and send them to hearth of mother earth.

Every ancestor have tomb? And slab? And 3 coffers and 2 cabinets? In nice smoothed room? Are you sure they will be resting in pace? Traps inside your fortress just in case? Meybe you need more panic rooms with even more booze and food?

What about emergency response squads? Did i writed squads? What about watter sealing floors in case of problems? You know, gobos defeated your soldiers, they are inside your fortress, plenty. You love you dwarves, protect them!

Are caves secured? Is there protecting squad? Emergency system?

Is there way for creature possesed by you to sneakly enter to fortress and get revange for your dead love lady? Can raiders escape? Can he burry fortress? Can he live in here?

One thing, you don't need two depots. When you have two trade deepots traders start being buggy as hell. I had two, one for wagons and one reached by animals. They was unable to embark propery.
If you're speaking about trade... There trade goods from vampires can be send by minecarts too, with "jump hole" to avoid any connections between fortress. :)

344
No, they are not going only to narest dinning rooms. They will choose this rooms, what they like. More social dwarf will sit in group in most crowded and most value room, but if there is statue of creature, what they don't like, they will be avoiding it. They seems be attached to some thrones and tables too, sometimes to furnitures inside.

There is very much factors, i know dwarves who are running all the way from deep mountain to put their asses on WOODEN table on surface (with glass floor above). I have two miners like that. My carpenter is nearly always siting on granite thrones, because he like granite. My mayor is dining alone, most of times, but when he's sad he is choosing legendary dinning room.

Yeah, i have seted pop cap on 64, so i have a lot of time to watch my petsdwarfes. :)

345
One note, when you want be super nice and give every dwarf table and throne, your legendary dinning hall will be less efficient. Dwarf will start eating in their room, so they will be not so socialized, but they will get x2 worth happy though, because it is they own room. If you will make separated dining hall for every dworf they will get x2 value because ownership and 2x because dinning hall.

This will force you to make stockpiles in corridors to dining rooms, but hey, this is good choice. Offices for commos are worth of effort too, but figure out alone why. Tombs are good fun too, you have sooo much space... And Tombs must have chests and cabinets. Armory and weapon rack is important too.

Have fun!
