Nice one :)

There's one song I think of as a theme to Dwarf Fortress and it's a Rhapsody of Fire song called the Village of Dwarves.

You need to offload the water to some other place by mining a tunnel or two (and don't forget to put the doors in your tunnel) and only mine the last piece of the stone when the tunnel (and cistern perhaps) is built and your problem is easily solved. Seeing how this is not even an endless water source, you could try draining it all into a multiple Z-level cistern.

Interface is alright, my bf plays this with his meager knowledge of computers alright. The fps problem (combined with No Victory) is what puts my friends off the game. None of guys I introduced to the game ever left because of UI... but many many see no point in playing a -no-win- game or seeing how they forts die to FPS slowdown. And for the record, noone is smart enough probably to tinker with Military. They just lay traps and it usually works. Military is so broken in 31.25 only hardcore fans like me bother with it. And we use danger rooms yes.

Loving the idea. Is there anyway to join in? I play on EU times (GMT+2).

Well I started on a lifeless tundra-glacier biome and the fps is at 140ish after 24 years without disabling temperature (disabling it give it easily 600 fps, btw). My computer is as powerful as my little money can buy (i7 930 at 4200 mhz, 12gb memory and some other stuff). I can't confine myself to 1x1; 4x3 is the minimum I will go. I love the new changes and multiple levels assignments are the best thing!!!

And that's one of my forts with of course never born queen or king. Uses phoebius pack! It's around 10Mb. I today wondered about the place for Stormy Picks to lay rest, that might as well be it. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=D1P4TFWI, the map image is here http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-10553-diamondgulf

100 f.p.s. actually freaks me out when I start a new fort, after having become attuned to the rhythm and beat of one of my usual half-century behemoths.  When they aren't running at full speed you start to note minute interactions.  I never have fully fledged character emerge until the fort slows to 50 f.p.s. just because there is too much, too quickly.  In a 100 f.p.s. fort I've literally renamed an interesting dwarf to check back a second later and find him dying to a badger. In a 50 f.p.s fort I would see that badger coming (and the dwarf body parts flying) at a nice, measured pace.
I got used to capping fps at 120 and g_fps at usual 60 (when it's slow at the beginning I pretend dwarves don't know much about digging). That said I am usually running fort with fps cap = 0 and g_fps = 20.. at least when it does halt at 50 fps, I know I am in trouble and it's not such an abrupt end to all my megaprojects. Then I just don't buy it, because fing shit, you need to use my only core before slowing the hell down.

I posted this else where but go and look ahead before you say I didn't do something = http://www.megaupload.com/?d=69CN32IW

I am running a 4,2 i7 930. I played with hyper-threading and switching off all three other cores. Results are not explainable. I know if I have 2 cores runing and one is doing video and it's bound to DF it never goes higher than 30%. All other cores disabled. When I stop encoding, the core rarely goes above 10 (I see it very quickly because my case displays temperature both of qCore and qJunc displayed on a side) and never ever it goes over 60. It's now around 34 Celcium in my room ambient, around 45 I have my cores running bitmine or prime95. Here's the promised dxdiag, it\s only 46kb http://www.megaupload.com/?d=69CN32IW

What happens very often is Dwarf Fortress executable runs out of adressable space when generating and embarking onto really weird worlds. This I have no problem with. It could use some help to use 3gb of memory, but anyway who wants a cliff 5000z-levels high. I don't think it might help, but I have a non DirectX audio adapter (although I know it matters not) being Asus Sonar DX2 somethng with a midi input.

It's like you either set a FPS cap at a reasonable number 200, and you always watch it and it is mean to you and you will be very sad if it dwindles to a point where 150 or 100 is maximum you can get. You should realize, that getting below 100 means to me as much as yours "twice slower" when I used to play at 200 fps. Or you don't (and you feel every second of your life that your dwarves are slow). Either shut yourself off in a fortress, or FPS imposed difficulties will haunt you just as well as they do me.

What does 'kurayosh' mean, when he switches his architects? Oh, so he says 'pisses off', okay. He's maybe just of Finnish origin I don't know. But damned if I knew, he sounds really nice if somewhat bored. The european English of captnduck is what keeps bringing me back again and again since 2d times of famous Lps. Should've realized he was Dutch.

Official Finnish word is Kohokahto, but I suppose he might have just used an English word. Either that or it was a false cognate.
That'll do. He just said 'quantun stockpile' in an inexplicable tone, so I love him all over again.

It's not you, a multiplier of 250 is very silly to impose in first place, but everything has it's place in a fairy tale. Pretend you are living in a fairy-tale world with people around dying due to dehydration and getting their breast-fed babies impaled by spikes because the mom is irresponsible and drafted into military.
