DF Suggestions / Re: Animal Hunger
« on: July 26, 2011, 06:59:11 pm »
the wiki lists BONECARN as "Creature 'eats' bones. Eating bones makes their happiness go up, but can cause death (suffocation)Verify. Implies CARNIVORE."

it also has a strange effect when applied to dwarves.... makes them not eat their own food or something.

If the dreaded nerve damage wounds annoy you, just remove [HAS_NERVES] from raw/objects/creature_standard text file under Dwarves.

No more nerve damage!

Of course, you won't be able to walk if you lose your leg...
But I'm pretty sure there's a tag for that, too. Something that keeps limbs from getting disconnected.
or mod nerves to heal slowly.  that's less of a "cheat" as without nerves, are they not pain immune?
How can I mod nerves to heal slowly?

EDIT - I'll ask in the modding section.
no need, the answer was in the wiki under "wound"

Quote
If you want your dwarves to heal spinal nerve damage, go into the raws, find the tissue_template_default and set [HEALING_RATE:100] to the NERVE_TEMPLATE. Optionally, specify 2000 for a much slower rate; bone has a healing rate of 1000, so this will make nerve damage heal at half the speed of broken bones. However, this does not affect other nerves, as they apparently do not count as "nervous tissue".

edit, i cannot find anything about moter nerves, they are perhaps called something else in the raws, and the wiki gives me no hint about how to mod those to heal.

reminds me, i need to mod my own nervous tissue (and nails) to heal.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Can Minotaurs breed?

so add no_eat and no_drink and see what happens!

also, minotaurs do breed in worldgen, so in theory, they should in fort mode.

having party dwarves is a bad thing. once they start, they wont stop partying..
funny story... i keep my duchess and king in a burrow.  they like to declare parties at statues out of this burrow.  they immediately cancel attending the party, as it is out of the burrow.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Military Training

Also there are TWO schedule screens (use the / to switch between them), one for Active/Training and the other for Inactive....I only set my soldiers to Active/Training during an attack (so they GO to predefined burrows). I just set up the Inactive schedule screen to Train......

there are as many schedule screens as there are alerts.

you can use this to actually semi-automate your military.

Had some fun embedding weapons and leaving them there.

I embedded a War Lord's really nice sword in her gut, and embedded any sharp weapon any of her goons was carrying in her and left her to bleed out as she fled.

Then I got shot in the head and died. I wonder what became of that War Lord that was spraying blood and had several weapons embedded in her...I forgot her name.

If she managed to live until you died first, then she'd be held in stasis by the game until the next adventurer finds her. I've run away from a bandit encounter, and then later found the same bandit leader with pre-inflicted wounds.

ive done the same... and my survivng companions were still fighting the bandits.

very funny considering a few years had passed, due to a fortress mode game.

You could also randomly place some quality furniture to add a higher chance of dwarf noticing and admiring an item.
Also, make sure that they are made from diffrent materials, diffrent dwarfs like diffrent stuff.
Artifacts are especially good for this, beacause if noticed, the though is always the most happy "completely sublime x" one.

and as part of a statue garden, it gets "tastefully arranged" as well.

Goblin Camp did say it was 'like Dwarf Fortress and Dungeon Keeper'...
looks like a DF mod, to be honest.

You didn't set any [N]otes?
what, and ruin the !!FUN!! when you eventually forget what the lever does?

my dwarves shoot several z levels down through fortifications just fine.  granted, their targets are 10 or so tiles away in the x or y axis.

Heheh... I pastured a cat near the colossus to see if he was friendly. Inconclusive at best:

*snip image*

Either the colossus just wanted to play, or he's totally rusty in the fighting department. According to the cat's report, the colossus actually killed it by flinging it into a wall or a tree or something.
its not uncommon.  most of my FB related deaths (not induced by syndromes) were caused by the FB throwing a dwarf against a wall, splattering them over 20+ levels of stairs.

i use the default ascii/curses, and cant make heads or tails of more graphical tileset

Even though I've played nethack (maybe BECAUSE I've played nethack) I need a tileset to play DF. But I can understand enough of what the ASCII is now to read/watch other ASCII screenshots and know what's going on.

True it is easier for me now as well to "read" Ascii screenshots although i dont play with them.
i only wish the inverse were true as well =D
