It might just be easier to mark every page with a 'refers to version xyx' tag and then remove them as we edit pages. As long as we can list the ones it still exists on I don't think it would take that long to remove most of them.

There is a lot of cross over, but if your reading the wiki it's easier to ask there and as there is less chatter anything resolved stays there longer. On the other hand anything useful is added to articles anyway.

DF General Discussion / Re: Why do you play DF
« on: August 21, 2007, 05:13:00 am »
I really don't know, so much of the game annoys the hell out of me, how stupid the dwarves are, how annoying micro managing it etc etc.

And yet I find myself running it shortly after I turn my pc on... god damn addictions.

Whatever the reason dwarf fortress, especially the early game, is what dulls the cravings.

Possibly the funniest stuff I've read in a long time. I'd love to give it a go if I can work out how to be on at the right time (gmt + 1 here as well) and if you need another player. Although probably not till after your next session or so cause currently I'm up a stupid hours on Monday morning.

Hmm try picking any two sheer cliff walls in the real world. What are the differences? Materials, okay so we have that. Vegetation and wild life, we have that. Rivers/lakes, also in the game....

Okay so the cliff face is slightly more flat and samey than in the real world but that will change a little... I think you give real life too my credit for it's variation  ;)

DF General Discussion / Re: LabourDF Utility
« on: August 13, 2007, 04:36:00 am »
Since I started using it I've been unable to play without it because it's just to darn useful.

As for stability I've had the LabourDF tool crash a number of times, mostly when doing profile exchanges, but it always seems to crash after it does it's task and I've not had it screw up the game in any way.

hmmmm I _need_ new DF, I think I'm getting withdrawal, maybe I'll start another fort while I wait.

I'm not sure it would matter much, historically projectiles other than siege weapons where never aimed upwards much. And don't forget that these dwarfs of ours cut out tunnel high enough that a dragon or a colossus can stand up in them, unless they take up more than one z-plane now?

Render speed shouldn't be an issue in either case, the opengl title system used is fairly basic and fast (look at your gpu usages while it's running), the cpu time on the other hand is excessive. Probably this could be significantly improved if someone was porting and thought carefully about each step but that would be a lot of time and currently there is no way the processor on a ds could handle it at a high frame rate.

Yer, a professional programmer can make a lot more than $3000/month, but this is something he wants to do so it's easy to understand the lower income. Also as the game gets more popular hopefully there will be more donations.

The 50-60% utilisation on multicore machines rather then the 50% when core restricted could easily be any of the third party libraries used. For example fmod is used for the sound and music.

DF General Discussion / Re: Kobold Quest port status?

Considering it runs under wine (and you can get wine for the mac on osx) it would seem a little strange to pay someone to port it.

No using any space dug out, every room must be constructed.
Optionally, set a limit to the size of each tower so you have to create lots of interconnected groups of towers.</STRONG>

Interconnections must be four levels up or higher  ;) and no individual tower level can be larger than 11 by 11 (shift arrow key is 11 squares).

Oh and bonus points for stone block towers.. dwarves are not shoddy builders  ;)
