I don't plan on moving away anytime soon.

To be fair that is probably true of 99.9% of people...

Did that all make sense?

Sorry that was me screwing up the terminology, I meant single city not single region (the region is the whole map view with multiple city plots right?)

The Scandinavian countries aren't in the EU, so any European ruling isn't going to effect them much.
False. You should check up on what "Scandinavian countries "implies.

Sorry I should have said all the Scandinavian countries aren't in the EU, my mistake, although they are all in Europe and the EC.

I personally feel it's not too constrictive. You can always specialize a city, like say do a few with a little residential to get started then turn one of them to an all industrial one city while another is all residential with some commercial mixed in for shopping and have an all commercial one for major shopping. One region I was playing in someone had all industrial and I was getting all my stuff from him for my commercial zones. It's just a matter of patience and planning. Oh you could even have that industrial city powering your other cities (provided it has enough power plants to do so.) While the Commercial one provides water to the other cities.) Thus freeing up the space you would use for all the utilites per city for other uses.

I kinda wanted to avoid having to have loads of regions for different things, how bad would it be to just have it in a single region?

I'd probably say Scandinavia, but the Recent bill in the European parliment to ban porn convinces me otherwise.

Not all the Scandinavian countries are in the EU, so any European ruling isn't going to effect them much.

I'd also go with one of those as the most free / open / generally-not-screwed-up, not perfect by any means but ahead of anyone else I can think of.

I'm kinda shocked two people mentioned the USA though, as I'd have put them way down near the bottom of the ladder on personal freedoms and non-corruptness. But then I've not been there in years so maybe it's changed, either way it's certainly not where I live (UK), we are broken :(

Must say that at this point for me I mostly want to buy the game and play it (it isn't out here till tomorrow anyway) my main concern is the size of cities. All the demos/reviews/walkthrough look really crowed and one of main things I like about the old games was large sprawling cities.

Now obviously I'm not going to be able to have those with the new version so I can accept that but I'd still like to know from those that have it while your playing how constrictive does the small map sizes feel?

Mine has just said Cold non-stop from the beginning.  Doesn't matter what the temperature is or what I'm wearing.  I even installed an Internal Temperature CBM.  Still cold.

If you add enough layers it will change from cold. It just takes more than you expect.

Finished the tutorial.
I have to leave for my class now, so I can't really say much, but the first thing that came to my mind when the tutorial quest giver female sim start talking was that 'What in the gods' name is she saying'.

Oh EA. So proud of their Simlish laugnauge. :D
Aaaanyways, DoomOnion out.

Skip class, play game.
I want to know if it's worth getting :)

The login action for the forum login box is still action="http://www.cataclysm.glyphgryph.com/smf/index.php?action=login2" so it is just redirecting me to the old forum url.

Pfft. 4 survivors all the way.

Frankly as soon as you get something like a katana or a fire arm then just one, maybe two is plenty. But this is early days so I don't expect it to be balanced yet.

Just grabbed the new version, runs fine under wine btw. I'm glad to see that the, I assume randomly named, hero has the same surname as me. This can only bode well :)

Edit: or not... on the plus side my safehouse seems happy to go on existing day after day without anyone alive in it :)

I'm kind of shocked that Civ V is played so much (see the daily stats on Steam). Considering the 'the more cities you make or conquer, the more your empire will suck' mechanic, which in my experience makes it far, far, easier to win as a single city than as a multi-city empire, I'm surprised anyone plays it at all.

Considering infinite/endless city sprawl is widely regarded as being the most overpowered way to play this game (especially if you do it with the mayans) I'm not sure your point, as stated, is that valid.

Although I'm happy to agree lot of the mechanics do indeed suck, and yet somehow I've managed to clock up a few hundred hours on the game...

speaking of weather, does rain reduce scent tracking?
Probably not, shall look into it.

Actually weather_effect wet and very_wet both reduce the scent map on outside squares in an area twice the sight distance each way from the player. Although as you now display more of the map this should probably be changed.
