Dimensions are indeed off because of the modified field of view for this screenshot. In reality, the UMMU was far from the DG.

You can modify your FOV at any time of your Orbiter flight.

Another one while docked to ISS in Earth orbit using a modified FOV, the moon is much bigger than it is from a point of view located in Earth orbit and docked to ISS

edit : while i think about it, something that helped me greatly to learn how to fly with Orbiter is this excellent PDF that you can download here :
Go play in space

It was done for Orbiter 2006 but it can be applied to Orbiter 2010P1, a recommended reading.

On some chapters, the recommended MFD addons may be out of date, grab the updated versions for 2010P1 in case those older ones are not working under the latest Orbiter.
Check the very large mods and addons repository in such case :

Oops was wrong, it's only Florida that is level 14 , the remaining of Earth is level 11 (but that's always superior to previous Orbiter versions) , fortunately, the level 14 Florida blend very nicely with the rest of the world.

It's on this page :

Orbiter is very playable with the keyboard. I'm floating in space with it since 2008 and never had a problem. Even atmospheric flying in it is not very difficult without a joystick.

The new level14 texture for Earth is really amazing in comparison with the past version that had mix of detailled tiles and very low details ones

I love the new "light source" feature that came with Orbiter 2010, solved all my visual annoyance with going around stations when the action was taking place out of sun reach.

Going in space can be very atmospheric, you nearly feel the Claustrophobia inside a while surrounded by such immensity.
Here i was transfering an UMMU between 2 DG in orbit above Mars :

A sandbox the size of the solar system.

Ah SitD. I've been getting the itch to play. I always lose interest in the Trial of Wisdom, or there abouts. I've probably played the Trial of Truth like 20 times now :P

I put my vote in for:

Damn I love that game. It's amazing how a single, monotonous drip of water echoing in the darkness can make the sounds of monsters moving around that much more terrifying.
How much time i spent on this amazing game (and its sequel Chaos Strikes Back) on my good old ST .
I remember having drawn most of the levels to stop being lost in some of them.
Though there were some difficult ones to map, those sectors involving teleporters.
I was even trying to draw my own character portraits with the simple paint-like editor that was a part of Chaos Strikes Back.
Great old times.

On PC, it was Daggerfall, without any contest, that took the most hours of my 1st person dungeon crawling time.

A Makhleb Chaos Knight starting with Maklheb means you'll gain faith (and so faith ranks) earlier, leading you to gain Malkleb powers earlier.
It can take a lots of time for a Fighter to reach temple (and lots of luck to find a Makhleb altar before that). And if you're unlucky, you'll have a corrupted temple with mostly Lugonu altar replacing most of the other altars, leading you into a chance of not finding a Makhleb one.

Additionally a chaos knight start with a +2,+2 weapon, can make a real difference in early fights.

The advantage for the fighter is him starting with shields and the appropriate skill, meaning you'll be able to block sometime attacks and increase your shield skill quicker.

I have been flying a lot lately in the excellent open source flight simulator Flightgear with the mouse (as i don't have a joystick, but mouse flying is interesting though as in FG it is coded to behave like a yoke, same as in YSFlight by example).

Due to my card poor OpenGL support, it's Flightgear 1.9.1 (Flightgear 2.0 and above being stuttering a very lot in night time around airports, while 1.9.1 is perfectly smooth and on my computer look nearly the same anyways).

Trying to land an aircraft that is not navalized is a challenge, considering there's no hook on those aircraft, you need to approach at a really low airspeed to be able to brake before reaching the end of the carrier deck.

I like helicopters in Flightgear, they're very challenging especially with my mouse controls, so when it need precision landing, it is extremely difficult, as usually i need a large zone to land safely.

My first "complete" win. Lowest difficulty level though, but as i'm far from an expert so there was lots of very challenging levels to me, i frankly doubt i can do that in higher difficulty levels, i was so close to death in many levels.

But how much lucky i was during this run, my 352th DoomRL game apparently :D

Spoiler: rather big spoilers (click to show/hide)

Doing that on higher difficulty level is rather beyond me, it was a nightmare already at such low level :D

Wait, something new in Hell's Arena? Do I need to carefully read what the voice says instead of ignoring it?
No, just kill anything.
You need to kill anything in Arena now to trigger the new *spoiler* in Chained Court

A question.
In this new version there are no more .ini files, they are replaced by .lua
And it gives me lots of trouble with the keybindings.lua

In the previous version, changing the keys to fit my needs was rather easy, as the doomrl.ini has something like this
Quote
etc...
OK        = "ENTER";
MoreInfo  = "m";
Enter     = ">";
Unload    = "U";
Pickup    = "g";
Drop      = "d";
Inventory = "i";
Equipment = "e";
Open      = "o";
Close     = "c";
etc...
So i could modify the key binding without a problem.
But the now .lua has this
Quote
etc..
COMMAND_PICKUP            = 15;
COMMAND_DROP              = 16;
COMMAND_INVENTORY         = 17;
COMMAND_EQUIPMENT         = 18;
COMMAND_OPEN              = 19;
COMMAND_CLOSE             = 20;
COMMAND_LOOK              = 21;
COMMAND_ALTFIRE           = 23;
COMMAND_FIRE              = 24;
COMMAND_USE               = 25;
COMMAND_PLAYERINFO        = 26;
COMMAND_SAVE              = 27;
COMMAND_TACTIC            = 28;
etc...
that's already much more obscure for non-coder people like me.
For the default keys, i can figure the relation, as by example COMMAND_WALKNORTH         = 2; means that (up arrow) is 2

But because neither the manual or the .lua files are saying which keys of the keyboard is assigned to which number, so for keys i want to use and that are not used in the default keybindings and that i would like to use, i can't find any ways to see what is what ?

EDIT : just figured out that those were not the lines in need to modifications, the ones to customise were in the 2nd part of the .lua files
Quote
etc...
   g         = COMMAND_PICKUP,
   d         = COMMAND_DROP,
   i         = COMMAND_INVENTORY,
   e         = COMMAND_EQUIPMENT,
   o         = COMMAND_OPEN,
   c         = COMMAND_CLOSE,
   l         = COMMAND_LOOK,
etc..

Good it's working now with my choices of keys.

Yes, those Ogre units are SMAX only as far as i remember.
And they're a reason why the 2 aliens factions can be that dangerous, as they spawn with one (though the game try to balance this by having their arrival delayed on Planet, unlike the other factions that start on day 1).

Ok, i couldn't resist and spent some time replaying the game.
And even today it's always a good experience, confirming that it is really a masterpiece for the ages.

I even noticed before playing that now can be found an unofficial patch, that solve some problems that were never fixed by Firaxis :
http://www.civgaming.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7511
And i had no problem at all with it during all my relatively short game .

As it's been years, i got a tiny planet on the lowest difficulty level to get a not too long game and relearn the game mechanics.
Surprisingly i remembered them without a problem, despite all those years.

Used the Peacekeeper faction and ended by uniting every remaining factions behind my UN rule with a diplomatic victory (considering i was the only one at this low difficulty level to have a dozen of missiles and could start building air assault troops , it helped the acceptance)

I had to bribe Deirdre for a ridiculously small amount of money as while at peace she was not that a fan of mine as i refused nearly everytime her request for some of my advanced techs.

Too bad neither Santiago and Sister Miriam made it to the end, they were early casualties from other factions warmongering.

I forgot the book system in the end scores :
"For i have tasted the Fungus, or why Brother Lal can't blink".
:D

If you question if you should replay SMAC/SMAX or not, dont waste time thinking about it and just go and replay it, even by today standard it's always one of the best 4X in the Civ genre and you'll always have lots of fun.

I guess if we made a thread for everyone to post on how unfairly the random number have killed their character, we would have it reaching a hundred page in no time ;)

That said, i then wonder, is there someone that actually won the game since 0.6 by being a Xom Chaos Knight, and never changed to any other deity at any point of the game ?

Must be totally insane and so much luck involved that anyone managing such feat would certaily have used all the luck of his lifetime in a single game run :D

The universe was so rich that it was not a surprise that books were wrote after release setup in the background created by Alpha Centauri.
Never read any, but the samples were interesting.
