The USSR ran away defeated from Afghanistan and never nuked it as a retaliation, same as the USA that ran away from Vietnam defeated and didn't nuked it either after that.

So i believe there's high hope that even if Putin's "special operation" project in Ukraine ends in defeat, he will not go for nuke (as long as none has the silly idea of invading their main land of course).

662
MAD and detterence are different, deterrence means you don't use nukes because you don't want to get nukes exploding in your countries.
MAD is a part of the detterence system, as it is a guarantee of total destruction, and yeah only Russia and USA have that capacity that is very obvious .

663
That's the whole point : you don't say anything, you must let things "vague", that's how it works.

Apparently they have +/- deployed 280 nukes :

After that the importance is what kind of warhead comes with it, you can compare the various nuke yield there to see in comparison to the one used by americans at Hiroshima and Nagasaki :

The concept of nuclear detterence can only work if the other guy can't be certain you're not going to nuke them if they start shooting nuclear missiles.
But telling Russia that they'll do nothing if Russia nukes Ukraine, that's some big level of irresponsibility,

Doing low INT run can be a lot of fun in Fallout 1&2, but unfortunately it will lock you out of half of the quests.

A problem is that even "low on ressource"-looking games can be ridiculously demanding as if there was no optimisation anymore these days when making games.

Darkwood by example does not look like it needs a strong computer, and it seems to be top down 2D gameplay based that then should not be as ressource hungry as a full 3D game (though i guess there's still some 3D running under the 2D disguise).
But in the same time it's on Unity so it's a lottery to know if it's going to run smoothly , though on my not-so-good :D computer it run very well.
And from what i played make a lot of use of shaders for many special effect (hallucinations, view getting affected by many things etc...) so it could be much more demanding than it looks depending on how ancient your system can be.

Got in my 4th day, after having been killed a few times already in Darkwood, but you always wake up in your starting hideout and can recover your lost items (and not all items are lost) if you go back where you died. I wonder if there's a sense to that respawn system in regards to the story or if it's just "gaming respawn".
I explored some bit around my hideout and discovered some interesting location, but man without using "jumping scare" the game really know how to keep you uneasy.

I gave a try to Darkwood that is one of the 2 freebie this week.

Completed the prologue that is linear and more about setting up the horror story than the actual survival part but it has an interesting twist that get into the very creepy atmosphere of the game and got me wanting to explore more of the game.

Chapter 1 starts the actual game , tough i don't see yet the link with the prologue, but make sure to check the Oven and cook, as once you'll be able to interact with it, exiting the Oven cooking menu will save the game (took me some time to notice that's how you save, out of the nightly autosave or event autosave).
So far the atmosphere is well enough done to make you feel uneasy and anxious about the coming night (you'll understand at the end of the prologue), so maybe not advised if you don't like scary stuff.

There is some interesting potential for a horror game, despite there is a storyline it looks like there's replay value as out of some branching paths (and several endings) for the story depending on your actions,  the maps you explore are apparently randomised giving it some roguelite elements.
There's a short and limited beginner guide there :
https://darkwood.fandom.com/wiki/Beginner%27s_Guide

EDIT : on your starting hideout, you will notice there's a container outside with a code to open it.
Apparently it was some kickstarter backer thingy and contained some items and now there's no way to open it

Next week on the epic store the freebies should be a bundle of "Evoland 1&2" and Fallout 3 goty (that include all its dlc).

This week on the epic store the freebies are
"ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove" that seems to be a remake of the old SNES/Genesis game
"Darkwood" that is a survival horror game played from a top view similar to those Hotline Miami games that seems to have some potential.

It is a streak of bad luck for me when i got those chained X2 , as when a X2 comes up the deck is supposed to be shuffled again.
But at another point of the campaign i had some good luck for once, my Scoundrel managed to kill a very high HP boss in a single shot (having the invisible status from a card  + the X2 damage on isolated enemy for next 4 attacks ability from a card + the X2 coming just at that right time) .

Apparently with the right combination of cards, items, positioning, allies classes support and luck the Scoundrel can potentially unleash insane amount of damage on a single attack

Noticed after my character reached his 80th day on Ark( and deciding to back up the save just in case) that said save folder was currently more than 700mb
That sounded a bit too big, but after googling around apparently some people have their save at more than 20gb !

From reading a bit more it appears that to avoid save corruption on Ark servers, the game is keeping a lot of previous saves (that you can't access from the game menu) so servers admin can revert to earlier saves in case things break, and if you installed those dlc you may end indeed with absurd amount of space taken by all those backup. And in single player it still works the same, doing backups and keeping them

You should be able to delete those backed up saves if you don't need them to make some place, at least on single player they are to be found at
...\YourARKgameDirectory\ShooterGame\Saved\SavedArkLocal\
All those backup are in that format :
MapName_Day.Month.Year_Hour.Minute.Second.ark
Though you should keep a couple of them in case you run into some problem with your current save

That's ridiculous at that point.
"General Discussion" should then be renamed as "Spam Random Threads" if things continue like that.

I only play with the normal Crisis, no x2 or x3 or anythign silly so they're very manageable on a small galaxy (though maybe if it's your first time running into them, that may be uch harder especially if you still use Sapient AI computer on your ships) , of course out of their initial spawn in which they have a couple of super strong fleet tearing apart the surrounding systems without any possible counter.

But once they are done with their initial attack, they will expand a bit and to do so they will stretch their fleets out.
And starting from then you can then destroy those weaker assault fleets one by one (even more easier after the Cybrex helpers are spawning, as after their spawn all the Cybrex super strong fleets are at the same location and will then carve a path for you until their fleets will start to separate).

As you should have researched enough to meet their firepower anyways (as Stellaris like in all 4X research is super important to get ahead of everything), and by the time you reach their various nests (the "Sterilization Hubs") you can focus all your ships on one to take out the super strong defender of each hub world without that much problem, especially if you have arc emitters weapons that absolutely murder Contingency ships.

After taking out a Sterilization Hub, all you have to do is heal/replace losses then go focus all your ships to the next nest, repeat until all the nests are dead and the Contingency is finally dead after you destroy their homewolrd.

But it also shows something that is still very bad in Stellaris : orbital bombardment.
Because to take out a Sterilization Hub, there is only one way : orbital bombardment, and in Stellaris orbital bombing simply takes forever to achieve anything, and even worse, regardless of sending a couple of ships or a thousand to bomb a planet from orbit it will take the same ridiculously long amount of time.

In fact i think it took me more time to wait for a Sterilization Hub to be fully bombed (at least it is considered dead at "only" 50% of devastation, but it takes insane amount of time to reach that number) than to fight back and capture systems during the whole crisis.
This is made worse by the terribly bad AI that does not even try to send his remnant ship to come to the rescue of its own currently bombed world, it's basically a very boring wait unfortunately totally uneventfull.

Alright if y’all are interested in Stable Diffusion and if you have a powerful enough computer I recommend the NMKD gui for ease of use and installation. Local install, no censors, nada
Looks like it's running on the GPU and is only compatible with NVidia ones, sad for me and my AMD crappy system.
Too bad the other GUI, regardless of code stealing stuff (putting code in open source isn't really the best way to ensure none will take your code), is mostly for people that know the how to with github and compilling things and i'm not there yet :D

For stable diffusion, I use https://colab.research.google.com/drive/1jUwJ0owjigpG-9m6AI_wEStwimisUE17 but there are many other colabs, with different options and tools
It is one of my major destressing tools in the current world: making AI draw silly stuff. Helps to keep my sanity
Never used one of the colab thingy on google, will have to look into this.

Meanwhile, that stable diffusion thing is really useful for subjects of extreme importance
Spoiler: yeah (click to show/hide)

There's lot of fun potential with those silly pictures made with those tools, maybe someone more knowledgable about the various available ai image gens can get a thread going.

I had never heard of Stable Diffusion, but the "open source" got me interested as unfortunately most of the AI "artwork" generator are closed source and more or less heavily censored that even what is normal attempts (i mean obviously not involving any kind of porn words) sometime fall wrongly into their censoring crap .
Looks like whoever code those things would have had dozen of heart attacks at once if they entered an actual art museum i guess.

From googling it seems there a beta of that Stable Diffusion here :
https://huggingface.co/spaces/stabilityai/stable-diffusion

From all the art generators, i think the worst offender in the censoring department going silly is the "Wombo Dream" thing in which it's hard to generate anything that is involving a woman without their censor hammed thinking despite there's nothing not "PG" in what you wrote triggering whatever shit algorithm they're using instead of generating what should be a normal artwork on every PG websites around.
That's probably not helped by the fact those generator often ignore half of the words you enter, maybe that's what does not help in their censoring algorithm
