DF Modding / How to make a creature extract into a Dye?
« on: August 27, 2011, 08:54:44 pm »
Currently working on making Fluffy Wamblers give an extract that works as a valuable purple dye.. but I can't quite get it to work.  I've been able to get it extractable, but once I have the Wambler Dye, I am unable to use it as an actual dye.  Anyone know the specifics on how to do this?

You don't need to know the rules for dying.  The friendly neighborhood GameMaster, or High Programmer, does, and thus will handle everything for you.  You are simply required to have fun and die in an entertaining way.  Fun is mandatory.

Could I get some context, please?

If, by you mean, context of the game, heres the wikipedia page on it.

That is why you don't use towercaps, duur.

Red - Bloodthorn, Cinnabar, Bauxite, Kaolinite

Orange - Substitute Brown-Colored Wood, as it's the closest thing we got

Yellow - Orthoclaise is Best

Green - Olivine

Blue - Microcline or Cobaltite

Indigo - Kimberlite (Dark Blue, close enough), Rutile, Pitchblende (latter two are rare)

Ultra-Violet - Any White or Light Gray stone

Now, we could go further and include metals in this as well, but thats optional.  To be able to do this, you'd need a very frequent mineral rate upon world creation.  As for setting it all up, you might need to have non-color coded areas at first.  The Fortress was not always here, as we all know.  Before that, there was the lawless, Fortressless age of violence and unreason.  But now, you needn't worry. The Fortress is here.  The Fortress knows all.  The Fortress is your friend.  Trust in your Friend.  FUN is Mandatory.

So, now that I've been looking at deeper materials on the map, I've noticed it's entirely possible to color code areas of the fortress. With the new burrows system you could assign people to various sections depending on their clearance level.

In essence you could play Paranoia with your dwarves, giving them clearance levels, odd tasks that no one understands and hillarious painful deaths for no discernible reason.

The problem I am having with this task, is color clearance levels. The standard Infra-red, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, and Ultra-violet/High Programmer classifications doesn't really work. For one, that doesn't accurately explain ow dwarves feel about those colors. For one, tower caps are everywhere and are white, while blue metal is well, blue metal.

Could I get some ideas on possible color rankings?

And yes, military will only get weapons they have clearence for, so expect a bunch of the infra-reds to die horribly.

You know, I had never heard of Paranoia before this.  THANK YOU.  This game looks hilariously awesome in so many levels.  Gotta get my D&D group to try it out... we're already nuts as it is.

Must not die.. *Bump* LIVE! LIVE I SAY!

I believe he was the brewer when he went into the mood that make the ruby bed.. not sure though.

Theres a farm.. its a bit hidden though.  But its there! And its working! Its near the forges.

Gah disorder everywhere... Can't hold it in... GAH!!!!!

Thats EXACTLY my reaction when I started.  I find it's current situation is extremely orderly now, minus the 30 odd useless dwarves milling around when they're not hauling or building something.  Thus - useless.  I always have a ton of people hauling/butchering/tanning/masonry/furnaceoperating/milling/plantprocessing/etc and only a small number of USEFUL dwarves.

I guess its true that every DF player develops his own style that he deems efficient, but everyone else can't make heads or tails of it.   :o lol

Artifacts don't show up in adventure mode, outside of a few semi-complex exploits that destroy the items as often as not.

Aw really? My fortress just went kersplat too.. every last dwarf died to siege.  I mean, theres only so many goblins, beak wolves (riding moosemen), greater badgermen, and giant cave fiends (intelligent GCS) one can take with limited metals before dying.  I ended up recruiting -EVERYONE- and sallied forth.  They didn't do very well.

Woopsy, totally got sidetracked.  Thought I put it in the other post XD

Leave the mask somewhere you can find very, very easily, retire the fort, get a knife-wielding human adventurer, and get the freaking mask.

But.. but.. I love this fort.. I mean sure theres no metal to speak of on the entire map (besides maybe cotton candy), but at least I have sand and a volcano! WOO FOR GLASS! I have so much glass.. every 2x2 apartment has a green glass door, window, cabinet, and 'box', as well as the normal bed.  My mayor's place is decorated entirely with green zircon encrusted clear glass furniture, which to say is a weapon rack, armor stand, two chests, cabinet, eight statues, two tables, two thrones, sixteen windows, and eight doors.  All made by two legendary glass makers with a legendary gem setter for the gems (and a legendary gem cutter, but his skill doesn't addon to the value).

I think you can copy the save file, and retire the fort in that copy, and then switch it over to adventure mode.  Afterwards, go on a mask-wearing, knife-swinging rampage.

Very true. I might have to do that.. but for now, UristMcLeatherface (Named by Nyxalinth) will protect my fortress! Hopefully while not killing his own people.

An explanation:

Moose have [PET_EXOTIC][MOUNT_EXOTIC]

MoosePeople have [COPY_TAGS_FROM:MOOSE][APPLY_CREATURE_VARIATION:ANIMAL_PERSON]

[CREATURE_VARIATION:ANIMAL_PERSON] has [CV_REMOVE_TAG:PET_EXOTIC] only.

Therefore, Moose People are exotic mounts. This appears to be a unique feature, like tameable tigermen.

Toady's creature was a Beak Dog. It appears that the fortress defense mod adds a "Beak Wolf" civ that can use mounts.

The only reason the moose people have names and jobs is that [CREATURE_VARIATION:ANIMAL_PERSON] has [CV_NEW_TAG:CAN_LEARN]
They can also speak, use items, and open doors.

Oh I know the mechanics behind it, I've done plenty of modding in that area.  This whole scene brings bad images none-the-less.. XD

Just like the Ferric Elves being completely naked (men and women) riding giant badgers.  I know why they're naked, but my dwarves dont! lol.

Well, I'm definitely gonna give one of my dwarves a knife and this mask.   Already got one guy with a silver whip.

Looks like Fortress Defense Mod, Its a pretty nifty addition, My first real fort just got crushed by a Frogman siege and White Tigerman siege whilst being sneak attacked by Kobold Ambushers pretty hectic!

Thats exactly what it is, plus the bonus/challenge mode creatures (minus the two fliers - they're glitchy)

It also has a few minor tweaks of my own, most notably being the change to the ethics raws allowing the butchering of sentients.  Yay for cannibalism! I have so much goblin meat..
