DF Adventure Mode Discussion / How to be a werecreature guide
« on: February 25, 2012, 02:43:08 pm »
It took me a lot of saves and frustration so I'm posting this.

How to guide:

o Find a den just outside of town that has a naked human in it.
o Go back to town, fill up backpack with water and steal a sack of food.
o Sleep outside shop door for 24-hour intervals.
o Walk inside if boogeyman appear.  Resume sleeping outside.
o Fast travel one square to allow you to eat more than three portions of food.
o Go back to wereden on a "waxing gibbeous moon", sneak inside, and sleep.
o You might want to save and back up your folder.
o Make sure the werecreature bites you several times - infection rate is not 100%.
o You turn that same moon after resting otherwise you weren't infected.  There is a yellow night creature symbol on your name at the lower left and you will be "hauling" your gear until you drop it on your first fight.

Tips:

shift+w to check weather/ moon phase
( is waxing moon
) is waning
0 is full moon (not to be confused with sun behind rain clouds)

shift+c to turn stance to aggressive (so you will bite, slash people instead of grabbing-releasing them)

Important:
Don't sleep in or around den for more than a few nights, sleep in town - there is a bug that causes leather to generate on the ground and lag the game to a halt.

DF Suggestions / Add X no of type at Trade Depot

I am not looking forward to trading several hundred stone cups.  There should be some way to select all of them at once.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Hunting confusing
« on: June 02, 2011, 05:44:41 am »
I haven't really played DF since before burrows were added and the military screen.  Somehow hunting being toggled no longer sends out dwarves even though they have bolts and a crossbow.

I found this picture and it reminded me of DF.

DF Suggestions / Supply and demand or more realistic Economy mode
« on: February 21, 2011, 08:30:49 pm »
I noticed this a dozen versions back so let me know if anything changed.

I noticed that, even though I had all 4x4 rooms with a bed, furniture and smoothed walls, nobody in the fortress could afford them, which didn't make sense, since there were more rooms than dwarves.  Why force dwarves to sleep on the floor while rooms are plentiful?

Has the game been updated to address this problem?

I know I've read about this before, in particular, dwarves eating fluffy wamblers (who would do such a thing), but this is my first time making aquariums and I tried to keep them stocked with fish, but dwarves keep fetching them out and helping themselves to dinner.  I didn't see this in the bug pile either, but then again, maybe it isn't a bug.

I guess it was because they don't respect aquariums and the aquarium was closer than the food pile, as it was in the dining room, but I checked their personalities and the culprits didn't like salmon or mussels (the things being eaten).

I had four aquariums and I couldn't keep them stocked even though I had half a dozen fishermen working to trap fish.  Trapping also seems to be very low on the priority list so I was mostly capturing things from built traps that used meat.  I had to butcher a few horses for the meat and, at 5 meat per trap, it got expensive to have the dwarves eat my expensively-bought fish!

Ok, so its about a dozen steps foward and one step back, but there it is: adventure mode isn't as menacing as it used to be.

Ancient pyramidal ruins, ruins complete with green moss and the undead?  Where'd it all go?  :'-(  And, especially, dark fortresses carved into the side of a mountain - they seemed to be much more expansive, claustrophobic and forbidding that way.  They were also full of glowing warrior eyes, not screaming children and farmers.  Goblins just became too civilized.  I liked it better when their fortresses were carved into the side of a mountain range.

I guess a lot of things didn't have an explanation, and that's what the project is working toward, but who here misses old dark fortresses?

DF General Discussion / Bug or feature?: Traps killing my dwarves
« on: July 15, 2008, 11:11:08 pm »
The falling stone traps were placed outside, in well traversed areas.  Two dwarves were just killed in separate incidences.  I'm hoping this is a feature.

Has this ever been discussed?  Do we have an approximation of one tile that a creature occupies?  Lets just say that a tile is 5 square yards.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Fast walking (running) exploit
« on: November 03, 2007, 04:27:00 pm »
In Adventure mode hold S, SW *or* S, SE at the same time.  I'm moving at least twice as fast!  For some reason you have to be moving south to do it.    :(

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Snowing in the Scorching Desert?
« on: October 18, 2006, 06:02:00 pm »
(This occurred last week because I forgot to post it earlier, so I no longer have the save file).

I thought it would be cool to start my party off in the dunes but I did not know it was possible without a mod.  Apparently, it is – with bugs.

Unfortunately, I did not load Fraps in time to catch the "snow storm" message.

But, if you look closely, you can see that the plants on the ground are white and the ":" white characters are snowflakes.  It even rained, which was yellow ":"s.  Now, IRL, it *might* snow in deserts but I *know* yellow rain is a mistake.  (Oddly enough, there was normal blue rain outside of the boundary).

The area was supposed to have "scarce" trees however there are none that are not outside of the boundary - just cactus saplings.

DF Gameplay Questions / Pressure plate on bridge: can it be done?
« on: November 03, 2007, 12:48:00 am »
I have a bridge over a two-level high pit filled with wooden spikes.  I could throw a lever when a monster is over it, but what I want is the bridge to drop out from under the first monster that steps on it.  Can this be done?  If not, I'm adding it to suggestions.

DF Gameplay Questions / Where to I buy/ obtain arrows in Adventure mode?
« on: September 15, 2006, 07:41:00 pm »
I've looked for them in a half dozen human towns with no luck finding arrows OR bolts.  The only place I can think to find them is in an abandoned Dwarf Fortress I made earlier; however, it is so gigantic (due to a lack of occlusion) that even with a 3.2gHz processor, the game slows to a crawl when I enter it. I hope I won't have to go back there to get more ammo.     :(

:D I wish my dwarves could do this so I could produce bone crafts easier.

DF Bug Reports / Environmental effects (and arrows) animate too fast to s
« on: September 03, 2006, 02:48:00 pm »
Just what the title says.  Though it rains just fine in Fortress mode (very lovely effects, btw), its but a flicker in Adventurer.  Arrows and bolts also fly so quick that, oftentimes, I wonder.  Was I just shot at?  Is there some variable to adjust this or is this going to be fixed?

Thanks for reading.
