The corpses of our dwarves are persistent between reclaims, right? If so, does this not mean that each successive reclaim attempt becomes more difficult than the last one?

I think getting this fort to stick could take a while...

Only about 1/3 of the map is Haunted.  We really need an underground burial pit in the south-west area that can be locked (I THINK locked doors stop reclaim scatter...) or at least walled in if the population gets worryingly critical.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Pure Dwarven Serenity
« on: August 25, 2012, 11:29:42 am »
The clouds don't turn your dwarves into horrific parodies of dwarvenkind that seek the death of all living nearby.
Isn't that the way they become the very moment they migrate to our forts? Atleast I have always managed to turn them into twisted shells of their old selves even without evil biomes. You know, death seeking husk-like automaton only capable of hate and tantrums. That is their standard mental state.

I drove a civ to extinction by using the dwarven race as disposable labour.  By the end, there were only a few left and every single one of them had witnessed so much death, endured such a nightmarish torment under my rule, that they did. Not. Care.

Why was I thinking somebody was going to build a dwarven version of the Serenity?

Burn the land and boil the sea!!! Of course, you can't take the sky from me.

Lava, screwpumps, and centuries of constructing walls and floors to fill up the skybox completely.

Trying to get a water reactor going without infinitive water is hard.

Oh come on now.

In addition to what you said in your first post, I must point out that it's rather wise to build the pumps starting from the top and moving downward, not the other way around. Makes it much more effective.

Oh, and to connect from the power source to the pumps, you're going to need gear assemblies and axles.

Allow me to offer a quick and simple source of endless power

DidI say the fort is dead in that update? No, I didn't. Arcagelsd is crippled, but alive, in a side room being pestered by ghosts while my dwarf patrols the main hall. Also, migrants arrived, but there is no way to let them in (also, zombies). Will Arcangelsd survive? Will the migrants get in? Will a murderous ghost kill me? We'll find out next time.

EDIT: Dinjoralo, I only messed your name in this update. Your dwarf had the correct one during his brief life.

I've got two socks and a kitten skull that say Archangelsd gets murdered by ghosts before the next update

The Aussie Journal - Some time in 502/3

Splint found my journal and had to be silenced.  Can't have the test subjects knowing the variables of their experiment.  I thought I got away with killing her while the others were busy dealing with the wall I removed as a distraction, but alas someone spotted me.

Next Entry

Dumping Splint's corpse in my bed seemed to pay off - Deathsword came roaring into the dormitories with a pick in hand and drove it right through my bed.  Thankfully he decided to drive it through where my head would've been, or he might've hit me - I'd had to hide under the bed because he came sooner than expected.  It sounds like he's gone on a rampage and is killing the others now.  I think I'll just stay here...

Fortress is expanding slower than anticipated due to setbacks.  Losses within acceptable parameters, though primary projects are delayed indefinitely until a stable and safe population is achieved.

I highly recommend any new entrance into the fort be the same under-over hatched type I installed in my turn - I don't trust the local undead one iota and it means you can have a quarantine shower pour directly into the aquifer beneath.

232
The Fetid Muck isn't the dangerous liquid - The Nefarious Mist is the one that rots them.  It won't pop up in the wounds menu, you have to look at their description tab.

233
Deathsword, could you add me to the turn list again?  I asked a while ago, but it must've gotten lost in the updates

234
So sorry guys. I'm watching my mothers cats and her internet goes out. Cell signal is spotty at best. I've been playing and writing but with no way to upload it. I'm hoping this post goes through. It didn't before. If you want to skip me anyway go.ahead ill understand. I won't back in my own house til 9/2 though supposedly frontier is going to fix the net connection "soon"  peace out and ill back whatever u guys decide.

I say let him finish. But its up to you guys.

I agree. Give him more time. We can't let the cats win.

Alright, get back to work cousac.  Or I'll send you to work on the WAAAAAAA- wait, damn way too late for that... Hmm... Okay, as penance you must clear the trees blocking one of the cistern pumps.  It's not hard to spot, just follow the pumpstack leading upwards.

235
Except that the map is never warm enough for a water cannon to work.

Damn, that's very true.  But we can fix this by flooding the level below with magma....

236
Shit. History is repeating itself. AGAIN. I guess we just don't ever learn from the past.

Hey let's try building a cannon!
Most accurate description of the forts to date.

More accurate than you think.  We really need a Boatmurdered-style weapon that flushes water over the surface, or the mix of fetid muck and nefarious mist will keep killing migrants that come from the west.

237
Well, no, but I'm acrophobic, I have an irrational fear of heights.

This is worse, because not only is the entire structure capable of violently crashing to the ground, killing everyone inside, but is in fact designed to do so.

It's not a proper work of madness until it's likely to collapse upon itself.

238
So I think I'm gonna try this. Just ignore the doomclock, probably have the fortress fall, and then just build a new one because I will not have moved into it.

Or maybe I could actually stop being such a smartass and just have fun sacrificing dwarves...

The whole point is the entirety of your fort must be within The Spire.  ALL GLORY TO THE SPIRE OF ARMOK

Why, you got something against auto-refilling water, magma (to be completed by you) and endless mechanical power?

Currently dwarfed are:

Mego (married to Arcangelsd)
Deathsword (romantically involved with TAD)
Volfgarix (married to DTZ)
Newbunkle (married to Nexus)
Eric Blank (married to EmeraldWind)
Dark_T_Zeratul
EmeraldWind
Nexus
Gizogin (insane)
Arcangelsd

Seriously, everyone who just arrived came with a spouse.  It's ridiculous.

So Deathsword thinks.  It's amazing how convincing a shirt and some socks stuffed with hay can be while you do... things... elsewhere in the fort.

Looks like we lost another one.  :(

Agreed.  Notifying Slothen now
