I stripped him naked, save for his artifact spear, and submerged him in a magma bath.  It got to 3/7 and he was just THIRSTY.  About 30 seconds after he finally died, I'm assuming out of embarrassment for being so damn awesome, the game crashed, confirming his life being tied to Knifemurders.

sacrifice him to the volcano god, of course. Put his cage on the end of a retractable bridge over the magma, then retract it. Drop the blighter in.

He's got the title of Trussed Chaos of Machines.  Suddenly, that seems oddly appropriate...

I have no idea.  He's definitely been around since the early days of the fort as he's got the first Artifact made - a legendary bone spear

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / A dwarf tied to the life of the fortress

So, i don't know how, but it seems any time one specific dwarf dies, the game crashes.  He's an uber Spearmaster (and quite frankly walking death for anything unfriendly in my fort, but that's irrelevant) . Any time he's perished, or looked like he was gonna die, the game's up and crashed itself.  Consistently so.  Thoughts?

I'll toss my savegame here for you guys as i'm not good with screenshots so you can take a look and "experiment".  See if it's just me.  You want Udib Likotlerom, the militia commander.

There are so many dead eagles, badgers, elves, Minotaurs and crundles on the ground around my mountain fort that i have 7 butcher shops working flat out constantly.  I wonder what the trade caravans think, considering the depot's in the middle of this horrible field of death?

In my experience marksdwarves are best used to dispatch these things. One bolt is enough to kill it and hopefully the blast will not be fatal at the range your dwarf made the killing shot.

Why would you use valuable ammunition when there's idle children sitting around doing nothing?

The base of the mountain, and entrance to most of my fort, is littered with eagle and badger corpses.  We'll eat hearty tonight!

Just had a dwarf pull the magma flood lever without checking if anyone was in the channels.  Melted three dwarves, a baby and a bunny rabbit. Whoops.

Indeed, toss a child/cat/whatever down on top of it, chances are, it'll get punched in half. The fire is the only real danger.
Hence why you want to send a child. They're expendable, cats actually aren't as you're probably slaughtering kittens for meat on a very regular basis.

Dwarf Fortress - Where children are viable cannon-fodder and cute fuzzy animals are just unprepared meat and ammo.

Dear Nobles,

Stop being a bunch of crybabies because of the bedrooms I gave my legendary workers. You didn't do shit when you came over, so why do you think you should get anything nice.

  From,
That invisible force that tells you what to do

Dear Invisible Force, TTYWTD;

We've heard... rumours from other fortresses of Nobles that make nuisances of themselves having accidents that no-one can seem to find accountable for.  If you can keep them busy for five minutes and point the miners to the nearest source of water, stockpile of trap parts, or even magma, I'm sure we can work out a solution to their grievances.

Sincerely; The dwarves of your fort.

The Axe Murderer, The PAINBRINGER, The Soap Maker, The Dancing Dagger. Spot the odd one out.

The Dancing Dagger, obviously.  It's an item while the others are jobs

Your punishment is 10 minutes locked in the booze stockpile.

And there's a goblin with a lighter.
And you have an adamantine axe and armor.
Masterwork.
With built in booze dispencers.

And you also have a badger for a helmet.
Made of platinum. studded with diamonds. and ruby. and saphire. and emerald.

And engraved upon it are images of you committing the crime.  The Dwarves are falling.

Goblin trade caravans.  They come every season.
We trade in death and i always give them a healthy profit

A dragon's rocked up and crashes Dwarf Fortress outright after it sets fire to a few things due to the magma refill/expansion calculations going on in other parts of the place. And because I've saved right after he starts burning stuff, my lovely Knifemurders crashes about 30 seconds after i reload when the damned critter sets fire to a few things.  Rather thankful i made a backup right now...
