We don't have a limitless watersource save for the caverns, and that's proven.... hazardous. We still have the human torch down there afterall.

A cavern watersource can be turned into a reservoir if the fort needs water.  Channel out a tank (single or multi-z-level) underneath the lake and use a miner to dig a ramp upwards and run.  If you pre-dig the floodgate-protected start of several floored-over tunnels, you can get water flowing anywhere in the fortress somewhat safely.

Magma isn't to be weaponized in any fashion. We found in testing the Spawn don't burn so good....


Have you considered Obsidianizing your problematic creatures?  From what I've seen in a few surface screenshots, they seem to huddle together.  Coat them with magma and then flood them from a higher z-level so it flows over the magma and cast obsidian.

So you intend on dunking the minecart in magma, and then make it come out of it?  Sure the magma's low fluidity won't interfere ?

I admit, I haven't fiddled with the new release yet (waiting for the bugfixes first), but wouldn't setting rollers under the partly-submerged track ensure the cart moves through the magma?

Swordthunders' original Baron was Doren. She was the single-most badass siege-killing dwarf I've ever seen.  She went outside with a spear, axe AND sword to fertilize the front lawn with troll and goblin parts.  On her own.

You can't fit serrateds into an upright weapon trap. Just normal weapon traps.

Oh, really?  My mistake.  A sufficient drop onto upright swords would probably have the same effect though.

I'm going to have to use my testing fort to play around with minecarts, I think.  Gonna wait a day or two for last-minute bugfixes, etc, before properly digging in though.


And for those that suddenly thought of GlaDOS at the mention of me having a testing facility, don't worry.  I don't emotionally toy with the test subjects fortress inhabitants, I just abuse both them and physics to create nightmarish constructs of engineering.

You know, you could actually build this.  Upright Weapon Traps loaded with Serrated Metal Discs under a pressure plate-rigged bridge.  Dwarf/goblin/hapless meat walks over the plate and onto the bridge, it retracts, unfortunate victim falls onto upright weapon traps and gibbs themselves.  Then use pressurized water to make it all flow into the 'glass'.

ThatAussieDwarf has mostly somehow managed to avoid all my plans to have him killed, including dodging all the Skelks when I sent him out on masonry duty.  That was actually the first time Catalyst died - when they both went out together to build the Hellcannon mouth.  Aussie was fine and went back inside while Catalyst was blinded by the sun.

You didn't think he'd have planned for your schemes to have him killed?  That dwarf's always one step ahead, you know...

Why not a set of parallel tracks with rollers at each end that send carts hurtling back-and-forth?  Put some dwarves in there and watch them dodge like mad!
